Title: Any one have the pcb files for usb block erupters or any antminer usb's?
Post by: Goldengatebtc on June 30, 2015, 03:23:24 AM
Hello I'm looking for the pcb files for the usb block erupters or any of the antminer usb's. Pcb files are the same as gerber files. Or does anyone have the bom list for the miners above? Thank you for anything you have.

EDIT: Or could anyone point me in the direction of producing my own usb miners? These are for fun I do have a pcb manufacturar I just need a bom and pcb/ gerber file list.

Education, or profit?

I want these just for education. Found someone to manufacture usb miners but I need the pcb files. That way I can get a couple for fun:) it's because all the people selling them charge ridiculous prices when I can have them made for much less.

I tore a Block Erupter USB down and built a PCB design up from that - feel free to use the same basis - and compiled a detailed BoM;

Keep in mind though that for the Block Erupter USB, you'll need the firmware that's on the ATtiny or an original chip; which kind of defeats the point.  The AntMiner U1/U2 would be easier, but sourcing the chips could be problematic.

Personally, I would go for the NanoFury designs by vs3.  The design files are open source, you can fairly easily extend it to NanoFury 2 or even 6 designs if you know what you're doing and, more importantly, the BitFury chips can be easily salvaged from various boards and resoldered.  The Bitmain chips have custom pads that make this finnicky for inexperienced electronics enthusiasts.

Wouldn't it be possible to DIY the full project? I.e. you don't need to start with a USB block errupter to get the design, but you could make one out of microcontrollers couldn't you?

I could be way off, but this is something that's sat in the back of my head for a while now, just never really looked into it. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

You could - but it is extremely slow to do it with microprocessors, even the more beefy ARM ones - and at that point you're starting to lean toward building a single board computer anyway.

If you were to do it with an ASIC chip.. well, you're pretty much doing what people have been doing :)

A DIY-level thing in between would be the FPGA miners.  There's a ModMiner Quad up for sale in another thread that's a good platform for starting with, as it's already got the necessary bitstreams.
