Title: Hello, im a total noob and have some Questions
Post by: julianderl on July 04, 2015, 03:40:43 PM
Today I started looking around and ended starting to mine using my macs Graphics card
Can you give me some tips, help...?
What is a good thing to start with and should I buy myself a miner?
I only want to do it for fun and won't spend 1000$-€ on miners.
Thankyou,
julianderl ;)

If you're mining BTC, stop.  You're just burning your Mac's GPU for no reason because you won't see any returns.  If this really is a "just for fun" exercise, pick up an Antminer U2 and plug it into a USB port on your Mac.  It'll give you a much higher hash rate than your GPU and won't turn your Mac into a very expensive paperweight.  The U2 won't earn you much of anything... But it will spare your Mac's life :)

jonnybravo0311 gave you good advice.

in about 2 weeks maybe 3 these newer better quality sticks will come out.

they are a lot better then the u2  but not quite ready for sale.

there will be a builder in Germany as it looks like you are a UK  resident.

After you master stick mining you can pick up a used S3 for a very reasonable price and play with that.  The S3 is just complicated enough to be interesting, just old enough to be cheap used, and just fast enough/power efficient enough to still be worth using today.

Al of the above is excellent advice. Just don't expect to make money in the process. You'll learn some stuff, and possibly have some fun. You just won't get rich.

Sorry to be a downer, but the margins are thin, particularly at small scale.

Have you looked into your cost for electricity? Your mention of a 1000 Euro budget suggests  that you may be in Europe, which may mean a fairly high cost of electricity. Just think about it is all.

They've also got this horrible concept called VAT over there... adds a pretty hefty percentage to initial startup price as well.
