Title: Personal Thank You to the MORONS fucking up the Blockchain
Post by: yahoo62278 on July 09, 2015, 01:29:46 AM
Hey guys id like to say thank you for taking this testing that youre doing well beyond what you need to. While im sure the testing is a positive thing for the whole bitcoin community, im also sure all it has done for me so far is fuck me over. Due to this test ive been unable to withdraw my coins from an online casino(transactions for deposits havent confirmed), so instead of taking a win i degened all my chips off continuing to play. Not your fault im sure. you werent the degen pressing the buttons right? Yes thats correct, you werent, but you are the reason i couldnt withdraw. Youre also the reason the very micro amount of btc that i have left is stuck between 2 exchanges. 18 hours and still no confirmations thats fucking awesome. THANKS again.

Instead of having a good week, making a few dollars, and enjoying my relaxation time i am now broke and pissed off. You tech guys should really pat yourselves on the back for being such great people. I hope 1 day i get to return the favor to all of you.

Don't worry. The Bitcoin price will in all likelihood come way down. But then, after everyone sees that you can't break Bitcoin, the price will soar back up higher than ever... maybe even in the $1,000 range.

in all honesty i hope btc goes to the moon just like everyone else man. im just a little pissed that my options have basically been taken from me due to lack of confirmations. as i stated above im sure the testing needs done. its just very inconvenient and i lost my money

I agree , they had taken this too far, cut the crap and let the network work!, there are business here!, not just nerds (like me ;D ).

I am also waiting for my mining income from the last 20 hours, and from the last 10 hours and probably will continue with the next payment in 1 hour... fuck!

Either way, it sure doesn't cost much to dust up the works. It's a bit embarrassing to be honest.

this is no longer a Test it was the first and second time, and a lot of people (including me) found it interesting and wanted to know the results.
but as it continues to happen and most importantly since it is hurting the bitcoin users more than anything else, it is an Attack.

i was wondering where are all the developers right now. i was looking at reddit posts and i couldn't find any comments from anybody important on the matter and what they are doing to prevent this!!

Agree. At the first test ( or maybe attack ) i thought it's interesting. But right now it happens every week and in my opinion it's very bad for new comers because they must wait for 12 hours+ until their transactions confirmed with default tx fee >:(. I hope developers fix it ASAP.

I have a feeling it is a combination of a few things here...

1. People doing tests to see if the block size needs to be increased.
2. People seeing an opportunity to add extra load on the testing that is being done, to disrupt the test results.
3. People wanting to hurt the system, and also jump on the opportunity to over load the network.
4. Higher transaction volumes due to the Greeks and Europe region increased adoption of Bitcoin.

Let's not forget that these tests or attacks are costing them a little fortune.. and it cannot go on forever. Let's just ride this out, and hope for the best.  ;)

Adam Back criticized Andersen’s proposal over a fact that it is creating difference of opinion among the core developers. He thinks the best way for Bitcoin is to operate in a collaborative way rather trying to outsmart and overtake each other.

But the critics have not shut the door on Andresen yet. There’s still an open invitation for anyone with an idea to improve Bitcoin network. And with a combined effort, Bitcoin network will have better chance to survive which is the prime objective.

it's a mixture of testing, and revolution, there are many that want xt, and want to increase the TX limit, they are telling you this by "testing" the network, they are actually attacking it brutally

then you have the regular test to see which would be the appropriate number of MB to start with

but i think they can stop know, we get it

I'm all in on Mr. T coin.

Look at the fees people pay, it's a lot of 0.0001 per kb, this is why you make it .00010001 or so

Wow, seriously? There are people, who have another opinion? What a nightmare. Bitcoin will fail.
Seems like the Bitcoin Core-Dev Team is already a lame duck.

At lease the stress testing morons are showing others what happen with the transactions volume hit a mark and the bitcoin system is not ready with a bigger block size, other morons would ratter wait 6 hours for a confirmation or pay higher fees.

Well, I think it's good news. Let's combat a real attack and lets see how Bitcoin does before it goes mainstream. Let us see how strong the technology is at this point.
If this doesn't convince people we need a bigger blocksize then I have no idea what will.

In the grand scheme I think this test or attack is a good thing.  Maybe it will light a fire under some people's asses and get them to realize that we actually do need change, and not just some greedy developers keeping the block size small so they can make a fortune from it.  These things need to be resolved before BTC can go mainstream.  We need more stability in the network.

i dont know is this matter only because of low fees

yesterday i saw, a fee like 0.002 for a few BTC didnt get confirmed, it was sent on 7/6/2015 (i dont wether it has been confirmed now or not)
i also saw, a fee 0.0001 for a bitcoin transaction got confirmed

mine, sended 5 mbtc to a friend with 0.0001 fee, never get confirmed, it has more than 30 hours now

sigh, this is suck

BC didnt do shit
i guess this is normal to them

even op behaves like some addicted gambling kid, I fully understand, that lot of "average Joe" users are affected and may start being angry because of this non-comfort situation. bitcoin is still in early development phase in this problem will be fixed for sure with bigger blocks, at least I hope so.

I agree with the first part that it should hopefully being about a change to the block size, but how do the devs profit from keeping it low? Everybody knows that it can't stay like this forever so why not act now?

Also, does anyone have the stats or charts on how much extra stress or transactions this test has put onto the blockchain?

This is definitely an attack because its been running for so long.

I thought they had finally stopped spamming today because there were about 15k unconfirmed transactions, then it went down to 12k unconfirmed. However, it's now back up to 15k unconfirmed.

Is the spam attack still ongoing? Yesterday it went to over 20k unconfirmed transactions, so 15k is a bit of an improvement.

Sad to hear that, you loose few BTC while they are into under testing the Blockchain, it happens man, t is matter of your luck. Try next time you will win more than what you had expected once they sort out the patches required for vulnerable security holes.

Coblee, the Litecoin developer, has the answer with an elegant and simple fix...

"CT: Can you explain why Litecoin is ‘immune’ to the spam attack?

CL: The fix implemented in Litecoin is just to charge the sender a fee for each tiny output he creates. For example, in this specific attack, the sender is charged one fee for sending to 34 tiny outputs of 0.00001 BTC. With the fix, that fee would be 34 times as much. So it would cost the attacker a lot more to perform the spam attack. The concept is fairly simple: the sender should pay for each tiny output he/she creates."

Nobody has attacked Litecoin with spam yet, so that's only an untested theoretical solution. Litecoin's transaction fees must be less than Bitcoin's so it might be economically viable to spam attack Litecoin. If that solution was used in Bitcoin it would make it more expensive to spam attack, but anyone with enough money could still attack it.

And these attacks may actually last months or years. But that is not the problem, Bitcoin handles it pretty well, all of my transactions get confirmed normally without any problem.

My guess is that OP is victim of poor wallet implementation (from the Casino he is using) that doesn't pay the correct fee (per KB). The attack only woke up a problem that has been always sleeping.

Complain to the Casino and/or switch to a Casino with a correct fee management wallet.

Sorry for your loss man, unfortunately nothing can be done about this, Bitcoin is not a perfect system and the fact that everyone is bound to the network means that anyone could be potentially affected by even a slight modification to the system. There really isn't any point in taking it out on the decision makers, someone's gotta do the dirty job right?

Nice thread, agree with the sentiments of the OP.  If someone is pretending to test the network by attacking it, they're attacking it.

However, still glad bitcoin has held up so well.  While increased transaction times and slightly higher fees are a pain, on balance, this has done nothing to question my faith in bitcoin.
