Title: What makes a link [Suspicious link removed] ?
Post by: RappelzReborn on July 09, 2015, 07:19:29 AM
I was planning to ask last time but just forgot and now I saw a thread speaking about it and made me really wondering
what makes a website getting[suspicious link removed] exactly ? are they free domains such .tk or simply when posted by newbies ?(I guess not .. not only newbies )
Or it's something from the website it self ,does Bitcointalk check spam websites from somewhere ? Most likely only Theymos or badbear will be able to answer ? googled and didn't really find good results or 100% answers

The forum tries to detect phishing links and stuff and replaces them with that notice. The code that does this seems to be quite buggy though as I've seen it occasionally block out text that wasn't a link.

"Free domain" is the main problem for the forum to remove it from your thread.
Most people abuse .tk , .ga and all the free domain services for phishing and malicious activities , so the forum thinks of not allowing such links .
There may be genuine cases in which might not be indulged with any of the above mentioned activities but yet the forum has to take the safe side for its Users here.

does Bitcointalk check spam websites from somewhere ?

No bitcointalk usually never check for spam but matches the saved domains and shortlinks in its database as Spam/suspicious links , but in past most of the spamming with .tk links have been observed , and most of short links are banned here because they have been reported over a period of time by users here and eventually the forum has decided to not show such links in future.

Try to understand its for our betterment only.

Links are usually replaced with that warning for newbies.

.tk domains are flagged a lot, I seem to notice.

Good question. :)

Some shortening URLs-sites are removed as "suspicious". I never get that (if they do not carry malware), coz you'll never know what it directs you to.

the fact that they feel the need to mask their link makes it suspicious enough to me. you never know what lies ahead so it's better safe than sorry.

Just be sure to not run any downloaded programs from links.

Then why are some shortening URL services allowed?
