Title: S4 Hardware Mod Bounty
Post by: lovenlifelarge on July 19, 2015, 12:34:06 PM
I would like to start a bounty to hardware mod (Pencil mod or other) to bring the S4 into the 481w at the wall for 1000gh @0.60 volt

Who would like to offer there services for the bounty??

& who would like to chip in for the bounty??

I would like to offer 0.5btc to start the bounty!

Who's with me??

I do not think it can be done.

the chips are 1382  or s-3 chips.  no one has made the  s-3 hash at 0.48watts a gh.   some good people have lowered the s-3 to .6 watts a gh which is 600 watts for 1th.

I do not think you will get the s-4 much under 580 watts for 1th.

yeah 580w for 1t on the s4 would be pushing it

We would all love to help.  But as others said this is just a little far out there.   I wish we could.

But no one so far has got this level out of the S4.    I hope someone finds a way though.

If I had an S4 to mess with it'd certainly be fun to see what they could do at the bottom end. Unfortunately, broke miner is broke. I pretty much stopped buying new hardware with AM Tubes.

Maybe we need to approach the people behind the S1 mod for this???

The lowest clock i currently get is 640w @ 1th

I'm deff thinking we will need a hardware / pencil mod for this

The S4 has already got some very sophisticated programmable voltage control. It's based on the TI CSD95372 Synchronous Buck power stage and the TPS53641 4 phase PWM controller. So should already have accurate control over any voltage needed, no pencil mod needed here.

Unfortunately what is stopping this from being the case at the moment I do not know....

Exactly this. Best I have gotten was 300 gh @ 170 watts and after a few days it starts to drop chips, so basically every few days I have to restart it.

Your best bet is probably giving a unit to Sidehack :P

Just sound like running it at 0.58j/gh might simply out of its operable window.

If it's already got software-adjustable voltage (especially with multiphase) there's probably no hardware mods really feasible to increase efficiency any further. The S4+ gets a bit better performance because it doesn't lose 10% to VRMs, so getting the same out of an S4 isn't really possible except maybe at really low clock/voltage combos at a fraction of stock speed. Sounds like folks have already tested this extensively.
