There's a parallel with these pieces to altcoins, though in physical form. Swancoins could be seen as coins in their own right. Technically, each piece is a unique work of art, but the whole project will comprise of 121 "Swancoins" over time. The stencil may be similar, or possibly the same, but each one is slightly different, so it's not simply a print of itself. In fact, he tags a Bitcoin address with each individual piece on Blockchain.info upon creation to verify it's identity (available using the QR code embedded on each painting). I believe the artist displays a profound understanding of Bitcoin, and this project is his contribution to the network in the way that made the most sense for him.
