Title: Coinbase, First Crowd Funded Bitcoin Company, Raises Over $600K
Post by: BitcoinRate.com on September 26, 2012, 10:23:40 PM
Didn't see this posted anywhere, but it's pretty cool.

Coinbase has been doing a crowdsourced investment round through FundersClub and raised almost $ 270,000 from individual FundersClub investors. Next to that they also raised an extra 300,000 from offline investors. That should be enough money to hire some great developers and security experts to expand their business forward (and maybe some designers).

For the whole story:

And for the HackerNews discussion which isn't very lively yet:

Any people here using Coinbase seriously?

This is great news and a newsworthy milestone for the Bitcoin ecosystem, definitely not off-topic, everyone should see it!  I'll make a thread in the press forum, feel free to do the same next time you see a Bitcoin news item of general interest.

 :D

A year or so ago, mostly due to laziness & privacy paranoia & the MtGox leak, I got into the habit of having my password manager generate (and autofill) not just random long passwords for each website, but also random long usernames.

I'll undoubtedly regret this methodology if I ever have to manually type or memorize any logins.  But hasn't been a problem so far, aside from the Bitcoin conference: whenever I wanted to tell anyone my username on this forum, I just couldn't remember it, and gave up on the time-consuming process of looking it up on the mobile phone.  Anyone who met me there could (I hope) certify I'm not scary in real life ;)
