How many Bitcoin have you donated to charity or organization? I only donated... (a shame :-[) 5000 Satoshi the other day using a faucet. I was lucky enough to hit the jackpot and got myself 7500 Satoshi. I saw there was a donate (to charity) button and so I decided to donate 5000 Satoshi. I know 5000 Satoshi might be worthless but... At least I help someone by.. a bit.

What about you? How much Bitcoin have you donated out? Please dont answer like .. "I send 1 BTC to a unknown address and never get back. I'll take it as a donation" or "I lost 2 BTC to PrimeDice. I'll take it as a donation.".

i am not going to say the amount of my donations but so far i have donated a couple of times to Electrum , because i like the wallet and it is easy to use. besides the servers are ran by charitable people who are just doing it to help us use an SPV wallet.

Shame and shame on me. I have not donated nothing until today. But not because I don't want. Are two the main reasons for this. First and the most important I have very few bitcoins and this don't allow me to be "generous" with the others. Second, I haven't found yet the charity organization that make me ready to give to them. Maybe I am a little miserly but ... this is I am. Maybe the life I had made me this kind of person.

Ah! Another thing. No one donated something to me!

I have donated quite some money in bitcoins over time. This year I think my total donations are somewhere between 5 and 10 BTC. Many small donations, like a few mBTC or a few € worth of Bitcoin, also a few larger donations for initiatives that I really endorse.

Also I've submitted this charity to BTC 100, they donated $1000 in BTC and added them to their list

Only once, to bitmixer, but was a mistake from my side because I sent 0.004 BTC instead of a higher value greater than 0.01 BTC

I have donated more than $20 in BTC. ChangeTip is a great app, and we need more like it.
I believe that we should support decentralized applications and other open source projects.
All this has costs, and we can help these kind of endeavours by donating some Bitcoin.

nothing, i would have donated if my whole stash would have been better like with a couple of more zeroes, or if bitcoin price was higher, because it would mean that with few bitcoin you can surpass the same donation

Not as much as I would liked to have. I just can't afford it yet. In the future when my income is bigger I will donate frequently.

Definitely more than 0 and less than 10. Donating is pretty much useless. I wonder why people still think that these donations will make a change? There are various reasons for which I do not donate to any major charities. People need to stop wasting their money on them. Those charities are actually run like businesses and I do not like paying for the staffs luxury lifestyle. Besides, it is also quite hard to expose charity fraud in addition of there being better ways of doing things. Here is some more information. (10.) I will be honest and admit shamefully that I haven't donated anything yet. Looking at the above posts I have realized that I should do it since Bitcoin has been good to me so far!

I promise that I will find couple of organizations that accept Bitcoin and donate some funds! This is also a very good way of promoting Bitcoin ecosystem I suppose.

I donated a small amount via Da Dice to the Nepal earthquake victims some time ago but that's the only bitcoin charity donation I've ever made.

Fiat wise me & my girlfriend give to charity all the time, we sponsor a young boy from Ghana with monthly donations. He sends us photos, letters & paintings etc. it's pretty cool. We're going out to see him next summer for the first time.

Ahh. If I would to donate to a non-profit organization again, I would only donate to animal or pets organization. Simply because I like animal and pets more than human. :).

I don't like a donation system where a third-party holds my coin , that's why I don't push them. I'll keep donating directly until we have something without trust.

i have a donation button on my blog where people can donate me i dont have any ads on the blog and i update it almost daily with all the usefull stuff but from the last 4 monthes no one ever donated anything to me :P and yes i have not donated any of my bitcoins to anyone so i am in the same boat as anyone

I didn't donate directly with my BTC funds but with the funds I cash out from my BTC wallet.
In my country, charity organization still don't accept BTC, so only way to donate them online is through paypal or credit cards, and for this I can't use BTC funds directly.

This is something very close to my heart... I believe in the concept of Paying it forward. A lot can be done, through a little bit of effort.

I suggested to Freebitco.in to add a feature for donations to charity, and they did. This has resulted in donations of 6.55178 Bitcoins to http://www.savethechildren.net/ sofar, and I am very proud of that site for doing that. {At todays price, that is close to $2000 from a faucet!}

We are also working on my own project for donations to many charities, so look out for that in the near future.  ;)

So far I haven't done so well with accumulation or else I would definitely donate more.  I'm still learning though and hope to accumulate more.  I've donated about .1 total to various programmers.  I usually just donate .02 at a time which is enough for a nice beverage.  I hope to some day figure out a good niche for bitcoin earning and then I will be able to give back more.

I have donated some to Hal Finney's fundraiser, God rest his soul.
I have also given some to friends to get them started if that counts as donations :D

As (to me) it doesn't matter how much - it's the thought that counts ;)

This was a very smart move and I applaud it! People are not going to miss a couple of satoshi, but with the volume they are making, it sure adds up!

Myself I don't really donate to charities, I like to support people that do charitable work directly, so I can see what the money is used for. Haven't had a chance to use bitcoin for it yet.

Till now I've donated none.
I don't believe in charities as I have a strong feeling that the money we donate don't even goes to the needy people.

I have not donated to any charities so far but I have done some small giveaways on reddit to attract new users and just for fun of it.

I didn't count it, but I believe I donated some Bitcoin by buying a bundle in Humble Bundle which always supporting a donation for a foundation. ;D

I haven't given any BTC to anyone yet, but I would like to. I encourage non commercial website owners to insert some code to allow tipping with BTC. There are a few websites, where I'd be happy to give, say, 0.05 BTC.

I donate some satoshi here and there, but I figure these 'charities' spend 90% on 'operations' and 10% actually goes to the cause, so I'm not going to pad their business with my hard earned BTC.  I'd rather do tipping and individual donations...

Well, I have donated a lot of BTC to a lot of Bitcoin Casinos :D, if I try to calculate the rough estimate would be around 5+ btc in last couple of months jk. I haven't donated to any such institutions yet but I will someday when I win everything I have lost so far.

But I do donate fiat to some institutions so that should suffice for now.

I think more people would donate BTC if they get the rebate in their tax like you get when you donate fiat.

Which obviously would almost never happen. Maybe you should donate some in advance as you will anyways be donating them to the gambling websites either way .

because most of foundations or organizations in my country only accept my currency as donation

Yeah to be honest I haven't donated for the good cause yet, but yes I have donated my bitcoins to gambling sites very often, As I am addicted  to gambling I keep on donating my bitcoins as I dont win so it is one kind of donation I am making but I am not aware about the institutions who accepts bitcoins so can't help.

I donated for Wikileaks, Dorian Nakamoto, BurtW case, The Water Project, Sean's Outpost and some other charities I couldn't remember right now. I don't want to disclose the amount because it's a donation and it should be secret. But I'm writing this to encourage other users. Most charities do their work very good. Please support them.

I only donated to pirate bay, because i like what they're doing, and i find Anakata to be awesome.
Everyone who appreciates p2p and anything decentralized should back it up in some way. However, i don't find it smart to donate to charity organizations, most of them are frauds imho.

Never, when I donate, I prefer to donate locally and directly to those who need, so less will be lost by the middle men. Of course they usually don't have a BTC wallet

I have donated $5 worth of bitcoin here and there in past - usually to people whose stories I've liked, felt or connected with. Recently most of my donations are have been through ChangeTip.

Donations are like a kind hearted movement by people.. Donating somewhere is a good habit. I have yet never donated anywhere in bitcoins. As I didn't still trust the communities present online.
The reason is some of them can be fraud too.
But, I'm sure if I have some bitcoins and at right time I'll donate it to a organization which helps the poor people.

Yes I too have not donated any bitcoins to any organization. But with the fiats I have donated to many orphanage houses and for some child educations. The reason is obvious, I do not want to spend bitcoin in anyways. That is the reason I am still in zero for the bitcoin donation.

First important thing which must be noted in this case (in general) is that, someone, must have in order to donate. So if someone don't have or have very few, and for more earned with to much difficulty, even if he/she may have the desire to donate cannot do this. Following this reasoning I have few bitcoins, mostly bought with money earned with to much difficulty and sweat. Money removed from my little familiar budget which mean impossibility to do other necessary things for my family and myself. Now I am asking to you: Have meaning to donate something from those bitcoins? Even if you would answer yes I cannot satisfy your desire. I haven't donated never bitcoin and probably (if I will continue to be in the same situation) I will not donate bitcoins never. Even because I believe that bitcoin will have big value one day and is a wastage to spread those in this way. Maybe I can donate my local money to someone in need or in difficulty (and I made this sometimes) but this is not connected with the aim of this thread. So have not relevance.

I have made charitable contributions in my life, but no bitcoin donations so far.
If bitcoins really take off, I might convert a portion of it to fiat and donate to local charities.

I haven't donated any Bitcoin to anyone. When it comes to charities, I am quite sceptical. How do I know the money that I send goes to the people that need it the most? Also, I don't really think that charities that are actually good, accept Bitcoin as a donation.

Well you can always look at their field reports like videos, pictures.ect ::)

Donating to people or to services is the most beautiful things, but i have donated satoshis to - milibitcoins not too much.

I never donated anything. For 2 reasons mainly:

1. I have seen many fake donation scams where money was stolen. Now I am allergic to every donation attempt.
2. With the peanuts I am earning it is hard to donate really. Unless we are talking about $1 donations.

It's not very much, but I have donated some bits to ThePirateBay in the past. When I am about to empty a wallet when it has around 10K-100K satoshi's in it, I will send it to their Bitcoin donation address, and then never use that address again.

I am donating $10 to the Wikimedia Foundation every month. Currently I have already donated $80 in Bitcoin.

I've been donated few satoshis from my friends not in charity.But I Think betting on charity sweepstake is as well as those who donate. And im always bet or bought a ticket from charity sweepstake..
