Title: Epic of Gilgamesh to... (the Wikilink game)
Post by: Phinnaeus Gage on September 27, 2012, 06:49:31 PM
To play, simply click on the last link within the sentence whereupon you'll land on another Wikipedia page, find a sentence containing only one link that tickles your fancy, then post it.

To show how the game is played, I'll start with a few examples, starting with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilgamesh_epic

Quote
The story centers on a friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enkidu).

Quote
Gilgamesh's close observation of rigor mortis and the slow decomposition of Enkidu's body provides the hero with the impetus for his quest for eternal life, and his visit to Utnapishtim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utnapishtim).

Quote
Unfortunately, when Gilgamesh stops to bathe, it is stolen by a serpent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpent_(symbolism)), who sheds its skin as it departs.

Quote
The Ancient Egyptians associated it with Wadjet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wadjet), one of their oldest deities as well as another aspect, Hathor.

Quote
The uraeus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uraeus) originally had been her body alone, which wrapped around or was coiled upon the head of the pharaoh or another deity.

Quote
There is evidence for this tradition even in the Old Kingdom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Kingdom) during the third millennium BCE.

There is a little work involved such that you'll have to incorporate the link manually. Caution is advised, for this is addictive.

Enjoy!

Click on Old Kingdom above and find a complete sentence on that Wikipedia which contains only one link and post it, making sure to included the link and that it is functional.

Feel free to include several finds within one post, or break them up to increase your post count.

It was in this era that formerly independent ancient Egyptian states became known as nomes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nome_(Egypt)), under the rule of the pharaoh.

The position of the nomarch was at times hereditary, while at others they were appointed by the pharaoh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharaoh).
