Regards Blockchain.info is not the owner of the bitcoin protocol. There is nothing "official" about them. They are just a business that happens to provide a website that allows people to see the contents of the blockchain. They don't need to be neutral if they don't want to be. There are many other business that provide views of the blockchain if you prefer not to use blockchain.info. blockchain.info also provides a wallet service. If you use their wallet service, then they allow you to attach a message to any transaction that you send from their wallet. That message is NOT sent with the transaction onto the bitcoin network and is NOT stored in the bitcoin blockchain. Instead, blockchain.info simply stores the message in their own database and when people use the website blockchain.info is then able to show the message along with the transaction. Blockchain.info is allowing that spam while they could easily fight it. I mean these messages only show up on their site and yes, it is like they support it. They don't even have filters or so to automatically delete this. So yes, a newbie with a blockchain.info wallet, could see it as if it is bitcoin itself that is full of spam. Not disagreeing with the content of your post, DH, but one might argue that not filtering this or that messaged based on its characterization spam/useless/misleading/dangerous/etc is being neutral. There sure are ways to gain the system and one thing I leaned in life is there are many people who don't get what they as far in life as they want because they scam/rip people off. Oh well, it's the internet.

There is already an explaination for that. Check the transaction on blockchain.info. You will see that there, in the comments, an advertising is done for a scamsite that claims you can earn 1 Bitcoin per day by cheating pools. The scammer simply hope that enough of the recipients have their wallets at blockchain.info so that they can read the message and follow through. |
