Title: Quantum Dice - Featured on MoneyPot | 0.6 BTC in profit
Post by: QuantumDice9 on August 09, 2015, 08:38:03 AM
Description:

Owner gets paid a certain commission for bringing gamblers to the table(approximately half the house edge x wager size for each bet regardless of outcome). This is a risk free profit.

To date, Quantum Dice has processed 173,874 bets with a total wagered amount of 140 BTC.

Since starting operation, 0.5 - 0.6 BTC profit have been made(site launched on 13th July 2015).

Sorry for the double post but the official thread of this site on bitcointalk is here. The reasons for the sale of this site is also explained there. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1120115

tl;dr, starting a day job soon, don't have enough time nor resources to effectively help this site grow.

Too expensive. You are selling basically just the theme, because you have no stable players and the script is free.

Take note, countless hours have been put in to customize the code and write new content as well. Not to mention establishing the brand and so on. Hence, the starting price is what I think is fair.

half of the house edge? That is weird..

Are you sure the info is correct?

Please refer to https://www.moneypot.com/faq
The maths is explained in detailed there. But to simplify things, app owners get paid approximately half the house edge multiplied by each bet wager size, regardless of gamblers profit or loss for each bet.

"Just to see how these things work"? He made 0.6 BTC in a month, so you want it too.. that is bad plan.

Just a friendly reminder regarding this, Im not sure what is that 0.6 BTC profit but it could be either the profit of the site or apps comission. As per stated it has generated 0.5 - 0.6 BTC and if you look at the status here :

https://www.moneypot.com/apps/85-qdicenet-quantum-dice

Both status of the site profit and apps commission are around 0.5 - 0.6 BTC assuming that apps comission are roughly half of the edge which is not always the case because it depends on the risk that the investor take

If you wish to read more of it : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1020726.msg12094918#msg12094918

If the quoted 0.5 - 0.6 BTC profit is the site profit then it will goes directly to the investor of Moneypot's bankroll not the site owner but if the quoted profit is the commission earned than it is actually depending on the wagered amount for the site because apps dev earned a risk free profit from commission

I think that 0.6 btc profit is not made by quantumdice , it is made by investors+ryan+quantumdice owner.

So when you get the ownership of this website , do not expect to make 0.6 btc profit in a month.

I think that he had made the .6 btc. This is because if you look at a link he had posted in a thread it said 1 btc of profit was made. He also said that MoneyPot makes 50% of the profit so the .6 btc would be about right.

In the link it shows how much the website made in total , not the app owner . That 0.6 is investors+ryan+quantumdice in total.

I might be wrong but I believe it is like that , quantum can answer it himself.

The reason for the sale is because I no longer have the time to work on the site and promote it due to my commitments. Hence, I'd prefer a one off deal as I won't be able to provide much support if I rent the site out.

To clarify, the 0.5 - 0.6 BTC profit is purely commissions(I had quite a few players playing really big and getting huge profits before losing and chasing back and many other regular players which play small).

But to be realistic, you can't just expect to host it and do nothing yet expect such a profit. If you've followed my site, you'll realize that I'm only promoting/advertising the site on the Gambling section of the forum with very minimal(or none at all) promotions and ads going on. The site is featured on MoneyPot as well, so thats a plus point(I think that probably helped drive a certain number of my players to the site)

If you put in the effort and budget to really promote the site, I think you'll do well enough.

p/s: to understand how MoneyPot investors earn, how much MoneyPot take and how much MoneyPot pays app developers, please read their FAQ. But as mentioned before, app devs get paid regardless of how gamblers are doing(winning or losing). A rough approximate of the commission paid for each bet would be (House Edge/2) * Wager Size.

I am interested, have a ton of questions though.  I sent a PM.

I sent a reply. Do hope to hear some good news from you soon.

Well that is more then even ryan himself think you would be making so I think you should keep something that makes 0.6 btc in a month rather then sell it and keep making money. Maybe you won't make 0.6 in a month again but you could make 1 btc back in 3-4 months which is way better then selling it.

My miscalculation guys. 500k bits is 0.5 btc. So it is very normal for him to be able to make 0.5-0.6 :D

Replied to you on Slack. I'll just post it here as well for the benefit of the other readers.

From memory, I remember withdrawing close to 0.12 BTC out to USD. I also remember gambling with close to 0.4 - 0.5 btc of the profits.

From calculation, if you look at the stats on https://www.moneypot.com/apps/85-qdicenet-quantum-dice under the Expected Profit    row, it shows a percentage of 0.73% at the side. This is the average house edge for each bet(Quantum Dice has a variable edge). Total wagered amount is 140,458,409 bits

Hence, based on the information given, the formula for the profit would be (140,458,409 bits * 0.73%)/2 = 512,673 bits = 0.5BTC

This is of course an approximate as I'm not sure of the exact amount I have withdrawn from the app(The history only shows so far back and I never kept a ledger ><). If I do find a way to look at all app withdrawals I made, I'll be sure to post the exact figure up for your reference.

Also, the reason I'm selling is because I no longer have the time to support, develop and promote the site due to personal commitments.
Just leaving the site to run without any form of promotion or community interaction yet expect it to make profit is unrealistic.

What are the running costs ?

I'm running it at $0 upkeep/month.

Free hosting without server functionality(not necessary unless you want to keep a database or make an API).
Free cloudflare account.
Domain name registration to be renewed yearly.

You can continue running it the way I'm running it or you can consider changing things to suit your needs.

Do I need to have any technical knowledge to run it?

If you don't need to make any modifications or add features to the site, then no, no technical requirements necessary. If you wish to do those, then you need some basic HTML and JS knowledge.

To be honest , to run the site without any changes to do site , you only need to know how to renew the domain/hosting + have a moneypot account . Thats it :D owning a moneypot website is the easiest way to own a dice website :D

Also qdice already had a bunch of promotions so you are one step ahead of most people if you buy. You have the branding and marketing ready and all coding done website all ready if you buy it rather then starting a new one.
