Title: Cant import old wallet.dat bitcoin Core Post by: ramalama on August 09, 2015, 08:19:54 PM Hello, i have an encrypted wallet.dat exported from an older Bitcoin Qt. I Fresh installed Bitcoin Core. Now when i replace my backup wallet.dat for the one in ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin Bitcoin Core crashes...
Any idea? You can check that by deleting wallet.dat (backup first) and let Core creat a new wallet.dat. If Core starts without errors, then there is definitely something wrong with your wallet file. Are you positive that this wallet.dat is for Bitcoin, not a wallet.dat for an altcoin?

Another option would be to see what pywallet has to say about the file. Thx You need to run bitcoin core via terminal and add the common to it. I have never done this on a Mac so I cant give you an exact step by step, but it should be very similar to linux. Open a terminal, enter bitcoin-cli -salvagewallet and hit return. You might get an error that bitcoin-cli can not be found, in this case you need to navigate to its directory. Pywallet is written in python which is also available for MacOS. The commands (step 2-4) given here[1] have to be run via terminal as well. The Backup is encrypted i know the pass but Bitcoin Core wont start with my wallet.dat
