Title: GPU MINERS: What is your Electricity Cost?
Post by: 420 on October 04, 2012, 06:58:24 AM
I'm in california, not too expensive here, generally $0.10 I think

You may also post how many GPU's you're running and current wattage/electricity costs

I'm running 840 watts, 3 GPU's. For one month non-stop that is $60.48 in electricity costs

I don't know every tier and every locale, but California rates are generally higher, especially when mining is additional consumption above your regular consumption and thus the cost is generally higher per kWh when you break it out by price tier.

Where in california are you getting .10$ a hr? because I'm moving there!

In Socal Edison and SDGE area's I've seen as high as  .26$ a hr.
You have to look at the fine print on your bill, they have a base rate and then usually an adjustment rate that adds onto that base rate.

I have 7 GPU's running in two locations, 1 california and 1 arizona. I used around 3k killawatts at one house and 1-2k killawatts at the other(total power).

Per my Killl-A-Watts, I'm using ~ $25 in power a week for my rigs.

everywhere i've lived for last 20 years

I'll get my latest bill and see what kind of tiers they give me, i may not have even broken through the first tier as I'm a conservationist

New rate change in Austin, TX.

I now expect to pay $0.11 in winter and $0.23 in the summer.
The good thing is that my 7970s are efficient with power so I could stay profitable even with $0.40, although barely enough to cover energy costs.

ASICs will eventually phase out GPUs so power will eventually be a lesser concern.

:o
I'm also running at around 840W, but with 5GPUs (+CPUs/RAM/Mobos/USBsticks),
may i ask what kind of GPUs those are?

And for the record:
the one at >$0.24 - that's me, i'm at ~$0.3/kWh,
i wish we had prices like you US-guys around here.

Ontario, Canada It varies from .065 to .11 depending on the time of day, I've averaged it out and get .0865 Not including typical "delivery costs" and other BS the hydro companies tack on.

Just under 15 cents/kwh here in Alberta.  Though the fees add up.

15-16/kwh in Philadelphia, it is no fun at all. Luckily my parents are cool enough to pay for the extra electricity i use for the few months until asics comeout/reward halving.

Unfortunately I live in liberal Texas, aka Austin  ;D

They have jacked up fuel costs to $0.13 per kilowatt and $0.11 per kilowatt if you use over 2500 kWh. (Around there)

Coming out to $0.24 per kWh summertime.

For now it's $0.14 total since October is considered winter in the bill.

But wow, $0.13 per kilowatt for fuel?  The power plant here uses natural gas which is so cheap.

a good modest setup would use 1,000 kWh a month easy

Waiting for my power bill

i have such lack of faith in customer service i dont think i'd find the truth trying to lookup my rates online

$.09 per kWh here
3x 7950 rig
3x 5850 rig
1x 7970 rig

I'm not sure how much electricity I'm pulling in this room but I know it's got to be over 1000 watts by quite a bit. Hot as hell in here and my electricity bill has been high as hell. Thank god ASICs are almost here. Pretty much only 2 more months till I start seeing a huge decrease in utility costs.

My power is advertised at 8-9c/kwh, but once BGE adds all it's delivery fees and other bullshit it's more like 13.5c/kwh.  Here's an example bill:

Nice thread. I use my 4x5850 + 1x 6870 oc for heating in winter also.

atm. in Scandinavia my power cost is 1.3x0.14=0.182 USD and powerdraw 790W

Power cost per 24h: 3.41 USD
Revenue per day: 6.13 USD
... less power costs: 2.72 USD
System efficiency: 2.09 MH/s/W

So not a moneymachine  ;D. I wish I had rented an cheap apartment last summer (power costs included) and put "few" more rigs in it ;)

Still can't complain because I saved last winter some firewood also and downstairs air was not moist at all.

I pay $0.09/kwh. I use about 1050watts with my quad 7970 watercooled rig. I noticed the watt usage drops to 1KWh when I dust out the fans, keeping the system cooler and more power efficient. I just have to get some more air dusters soon XD.
