Title: Speculating: What we need to design and make an asic chip and a miner
Post by: carlosmnk on August 27, 2015, 03:09:48 PM
Hi everyone, i would like to know what is necesary to design an asic chip and then, an entire miner. Not the mass production, only the design...  ;D Somewho can answer? someone can design it?  :o Let's talk about this...  ::)

You should do some searching - there's several topics and posts about what is required for a chip design, miner design and protocol design.  A lot of it from late 2012 through mid 2013 when a lot of companies were getting started.  Plenty of resources outside of BCT with regard to ASIC design in general.
What you need most is 1. people who know what they're doing and 2. money. (enough of 2 will grant you 1)

Outside of startups that try to get funding privately, there's never been much movement in ASIC development; most supposed attempts stranded or even turned out to be scams.
Poke at PlanetCrypto (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=310071) about his plan for developing an ASIC and a miner; was hoping he'd have a thread by now, but most of his posts on the topic can be found in GekkoScience's thread about their miner development based on an existing chip (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=995675.msg12256932#msg12256932) (where you'll also find some notes about miner design, as well as in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1158807)).
Tickle the brain of 2112 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=33083) if you want a dissenting view on how ASICs and miners are currently designed.
