Title: BitCoin-QT won't download passed block 199935. Little help? Post by: DaviBarker on October 14, 2012, 01:26:48 AM Forgive my noobiness. I'm using Bitcoin-Qt on a netbook that is left off most of the time, so whenever I make a transaction I have to wait for the blockchain to catch up. Now it's no longer downloading new blocks. So, when I scroll over the spinning icon in the lower right it says, "Downloaded 199935 of X blocks of transaction history." X keeps going up, but 199935 hasn't moved in days.
I already downloading the latest version of the client. The update was successful but the problem persists. I tried transferring a small amount to a new wallet, but it doesn't appear that that the transaction is collecting confirmations. I thought I better ask before I complicate the problem any more. I found some similar threads on the forum, but the solutions were too technical for me to understand. Is there anyone with the patience to deal with my ignorance who can help? You may want to update to 0.7 if yours is lower.
0.7.0 changelog includes this: * Attempts to fix "stuck blockchain download" problems Title: Re: BitCoin-QT won't download passed block 199935. Little help? Found this one? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=115283.msg1253198#msg1253198 In the bitcoin data directory there are debug.log and db.log files that document all activity of your bitcoin, including the likely errors near the end that will help you get it sorted. Title: Re: BitCoin-QT won't download passed block 199935. Little help? Post by: DaviBarker on October 14, 2012, 08:46:45 AM I tried updating the client to BitCoin-QT 7 but the problem persisted, but I was able to successfully transfer the coins to another client on another machine. So crisis averted. I'm chalking this one up to it being time to replace then netbook. The more technical solutions are a little over my head.
Thanks for both your help. Title: Re: BitCoin-QT won't download passed block 199935. Little help? Post by: Zeek_W on October 14, 2012, 09:10:10 AM Hmm I was thinking of setting up a site to HTTPS download the chain for a small cost. Maybe there is merit for it now
Title: Re: BitCoin-QT won't download passed block 199935. Little help? Post by: Gimasag3 on October 14, 2012, 10:46:08 AM This happens to me too. I can't get past block 134273, except this happens on the Linux version 0.7. I can't use the Windows version because for some reason it gives me an error during installation. I've read the guide that deepceleron posted, but I can't locate the directory that Bitcoin downloads the block chains to on Linux in order to retry the download.
I loaded up the debug log and this following message seems to appear a lot. Maybe you can see what's going on; I sure can't. Open a console and cd ~\.bitcoin
"mempool Tx prev not found" errors are from live p2p transactions being received by your bitcoin client, but the blocks that fund those transactions have not been downloaded yet. This is normal from an out-of-sync Bitcoin. A bitcoin transaction has inputs which are the signatures of the coins that are being sent, and outputs, which are the addresses where the coins are being sent to. Where it says "FetchInputs failed", the "inputs" that it fails to fetch are the transactions in previous blocks that say that the sender owns the coins. Hmm I was thinking of setting up a site to HTTPS download the chain for a small cost. Maybe there is merit for it now And how, exactly, are people supposed to send you coinage when their Bitcoin doesn't work?Title: Re: BitCoin-QT won't download passed block 199935. Little help? Little help? Post by: c4n10 on October 15, 2012, 05:46:24 PM You can try the rescan launcher available in my "BTC/LTC Newbie Tools for Windows" package: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=113707.0
This usually helps to fix clients stuck while downloading the blockchain or clients missing info/transactions from the blockchain. Title: Re: BitCoin-QT won't download passed block 199935. If it doesn't work try different wallet bitcoinmagazine[DOT]net[SLASH]bitcoin-wallet-options
