What do you think will happen when he breaks the sound barrier?
Personally I'm thinking he'll pop like a baloon.

The capsule has just crossed 100,000 feet (30,480 meters), still another 20,000 feet to go. Beautiful view of the planet and above only a deep black sky.

And I will see my dream come alive at last
I will touch the sky
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No they're not gonna change my mind

'Cause I've got faith of the heart
I'm going where my heart will take me
I've got faith to believe
I can do anything
I've got strength of the soul
And no one's gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star
I've got faith, I’ve got faith, faith of the heart

Now coming up on and surpassing the previous altitude record (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_altitude_record#All_balloons) (113,740 ft in 1961) for a manned balloon flight in a minute or so...

There is reportedly an issue with the heating for the faceplate, which could present a problem for the jump :o ..the mission is still continuing for the moment, however.

He just broke the first record, the one for the highest manned balloon flight.

It seems a decision has been made and he would make the jump after all, even if the faceplate issue is not solved.

They're doing the egres checklist...

Nothing available yet, but it was a proper insane thing to watch.

Neil Armstrong - "It's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"...

Felix Baumgartner - "You only live once!"

I may have just watched the 'moon landing' of our generation live on the interenet... What a world.

The press conference confirms that Felix Baumgartner did indeed break the speed of sound (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_of_sound#Tables) during his stratospheric free fall.

It was awesome!  I've waited one year for this to happen.  What a historical day it is.  I know it's not the same, but it this endeavor has the same aura as the first flight into space.  Although the majority of the event was long winded.... but when that jump happened.. it was all worth it.  I'm still watching the live coverage on the interview and Felix is one brave son of a B.  I can't wait for the freefall footage to be released.

Found this quote on wired:

“Trust me, when you stand up there on top of the world, you become so humble. It’s not about breaking records anymore. It’s not about getting scientific data. It’s all about coming home.”

It's kind of touching and people who dream about living on Mars should meditate this imho.

A collation of the best photos and videos from Felix Baumgartner's space jump yesterday:

The part when he's still in the cabin and opens the door before preparing himself to jump reminded me so much the 2001 scene where Dave must return in the spaceship without his helmet.  When you think about it, there are quite a few similarities.  The pod is about the same size as Baumgartner's cabin and both of them must get out of it in a dangerous way that most astronaut normally don't do.
