Title: How to not get scammed.
Post by: Raize on June 04, 2011, 06:54:04 PM
There are two things a scammer wants:
1) To remain anonymous
2) To get your Bitcoin

It is hard to differentiate between someone brand new who just found out about Bitcoin and a scammer, because they both seem the same. That's why you should take precautions.

You should insist on a Facebook "friendship" before selling for Paypal money

Make sure someone friends you on Facebook before selling them Bitcoin. Once they have and you can verify they have about 50 real life friends, then do the transaction (with them paying first). An honest buyer isn't going to care about a temporary Facebook friendship, a scammer is going to say, "I don't use Facebook."

Nice idea, but I wouldn't want to go anywhere near Facebook, and I'm not a scammer. :P

Sure... Facebook... why not some sort of itunes id ? I mean... everyone has at least an ipod... seriously, that kind of approach won't get you anywhere, I don't think anyone here is too keen on giving his personal data to a big company that doesn't deserve your trust...

OP, is your surname Zimmerman i.e. Mr. "anyone who is not on facebook is a scammer".

I have a better recipe for you:  "do not use paypal".
