Title: 2 HD 5830 or 1 HD5850
Post by: sanchaz on June 05, 2011, 03:40:49 PM
As the topic says what would be best to get?
My only concern about getting the 2 HD 5830 is power consumption.

What would be best investing my money in?

2 5830 if your PSU is at least 600w.

downclock the memory to lower power use.

2x5830 = 500-600 Mh
1x 5850 = 300-400 Mh

I picked up my 5830's for $80 a pop.  Look around, 5850's are over $200.

i got a 650Watt PSU
I already got a 5850 in there.

5850 use about 250 if im not mistaken.
How much power does a 5830 use?

Where did you find a 5830 for so cheap? The best I've seen has been $109 USD.

yeah : 109 was cheapest I've seen.  I got 3 of them friday from newegg @109ea.  Have seen them going for $120+ on ebay.

How much power savings are we talking about by downclocking memory to 300 ?

I dont know but I do know that the 5830 uses significantly more power than the 5850.

As for power, I have 4x 5850s in a rig, and the total system power usage is under 650 watts. All 4 cards are slightly overclocked, getting 300 mhash/s, Im not pushing due to heat. Very low power card.

5850 is really great, too bad the cards under $150 are long gone.

If you're vigilant, you can sometimes find ones for under $150.
