Title: US Only Buy Bitcoin with Credit or Debit
Post by: seattlenonsmoker on November 09, 2015, 03:16:27 PM
Hello, first off, I am not interested in what you freaking UK people have to buy Bitcoins with credit or debit card. I realize for you it's as easily as googling. NOT SO IN THE US. So please, if you're from the UK, listing choices for UK residents only muddies the thread.

Has anyone discovered a good way to purchase bitcoins using credit or debit card in the US?

Someone with whom I am acquainted claimed he was able to use Coin Mama with a VPN clouding his location.

Has anyone come up with any more exotic solutions such as using a broader payment system like Circle.com or something of that nature?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I have a prepaid debit card with only $6 on it. I wasn't able to find a place to buy bitcoins with the debit card, and the ones that did it required at least $10 minimum. I tried Circle but they rejected my card, there has been some reports of Circle accepting and rejecting randomly some debit cards.

Have you checked Coinbase?

Yeah, coin base was pretty awesome, but the account that I have verified is tied to an old phone number that I don't have anymore and I can't authorize the "strange ip address" to access the account.

Bitquick.co allows one to deposit cash into a bank account at a local credit union. The rates are, however, about $15 over the market value, and I don't know if that's fair for the amount of risk I am assuming this way.

Then, just change the phone number associated with your account, if the account is verified contact their support to make the change.

Celery was a bust. They have a super easy bank verification process, but then they say that Bitcoins take up to 7 days to arrive. That's just way too long!

Ok actually, though, Circle is super easy. I just signed up, added my debit card, added money to Circle, and then "sent" it to a Bitcoin address. Boom, done. Just has a weekly limit though. ($300)

I used Coinbase, and funded it with a credit union savings account I had, but after some point it refused to let me buy any more until I sent a copy of my driver's license, which I really don't want to do, because I'm worried about identity theft. I tried opening a second coinbase account, but that didn't work either.

circle was very easy.  I was able to buy within minutes for a fair price.  I also cashed out using circle, but am still waiting for the funds to show up in my acct.

I just tried Celery. For some reason, its bank verification doesn't work for my (small) credit union. I would next go with the "micro-deposit" option, but it says "Temporarily unavailable."
I'll give circle a try next.

FYI my funds showed up with circle today.  So far so good with them.

Me too, I have been using Circle as my main BTC wallet at the moment, and have had absolutely no problems with it. It's pretty much instant! It's great for making purchases on Crypto Thrift!
