This is a good I agree.
But all these things can be done your already existing pc in front of you. Why pay so much for an oversized raspberry? It is a nano board that is limited to what it can do. We have a bunch of nanos at work and just stack them in serial connection to just run some programs that could benefit from the micro processing power, but that is all.
Might as well get a decent pc for that price and be able to do much more with it.

I wouldn't argue that the thing is value for money at the present time. It's a device to allow development and experimentation. Obviously early adopters only.
But it has the asic, which your average computer doesn't have. Easily set up for development and bitcoin services.
Reminds me of the early mobile phones (big, heavy) that early adopters carried around. Look where they went. :)

The article talks about the future plans which start to make a lot more sense.

Well in that case. If it's for future development that is alright.
But put a price tag of a beta model lower than if it was in alpha stage.
I would buy if I knew I was getting a kit rather than final and defining product.

Everyone is going on about the little reward this little device gives in the form of Bitcoin as a mining device, but just imagine if it could be stacked and modulated with cheap ASIC upgrades, and you get some decent mining operation running. This would then be the entry level starter kit for something much bigger.

Yes, You could go for cheaper alternatives, but for the entry level new miner, this could be a jump start.

The mining is really just for transaction-fee level bitcoin. That gets you started without registration at an exchange to get btc.
It's not the end goal.

In particular, I noticed that micropayments are already there and payment channels coming in the next upgrade.

If this gets new adopters involved it's great. Seems like they have a good range of services and are trying to be easy to set up and use.
Bitcoin needs regular joes involved. It's been a niche tech nerd thing for too long and it is t necessary in fact it is limiting adoption. The more people learn the better, FUD won't affect them, they will see all the benefits and the actual simplicity of using BTC.
So far all the bright innovation has just been 3rd party stuff which, if you understand BTC, is absolutely unnecessary and just keeps people ignorant.
I like this 21 thing and I hope it catches on!

Yeah, it seems the example is how to create a trivia game that pays out bitcoin to winners. The SDK is python-only right now from the looks of it - I would have preferred JS personally.

Build games of skill that allow people to win bitcoin

If we consider the mass adoption of the mmorpg games around the world, not only at korean, chinese and all those fathers countries of mmorpg games, i mean around the world like in last years, then we can start to talk about a great thing.

This will spread the world of bitcoin a lot i think, the worst point about it could be that we are behind the new era of bitcoin game farmers :P

This tiny computer looks interesting. It is expensive if you are just evaluating the hardware. The real gem is the software package pre-configured to be a bitcoin webshop right out of the box. A fair amount of merchant would be interested if it is what it said to be. $400 is not a big investment for a business.

Or you just buy yourself a raspberry pi which can do about the same thing but for 4 times less the money!

This thing is very cool, I admit and some companies and business might find it attractive, but personal users who are pretty much looking after their every dollar, I just don't see to many people like this investing $400!

I don't get it. What can this do that I can't already do with my own server. It is just a glorified server with apis to do stuff with bitcoin and the ability to generate a few satoshis for whatever. It might be good for beginners, but honestly, is there anything that this can do that I can't already do in my own server running bitcoin core (besides mining)?

It makes sense as a development kit, especially if they are planning to really integrate their SDKs into everything (phones and household electronics), it makes sense for them to onboard as many developers as possible now. The problem seems to be the price which is putting off many would-be developers and might actually hinder their adoption.
