Title: [SOLD OUT] Official FutureBit MoonLander USB Scrypt Stick Order Thread
Post by: jstefanop on November 20, 2015, 11:49:37 PM
UPDATE 3/14/16: Batch 2 is now shipping immediately...I only have a very limited supply (about 100 units) this time around. Also the official instructions/support thread is here:

https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=28691.0

Shipments will start going out on Thursday morning. I am currently taking full payments for the first 15 or so orders on the order list. If your name is up to Row #22 you can send your full payment and I will have your stick shipped by Friday latest. Please have your payments in by tomorrow night or I will open up payments to the rest of the people and will have to skip over you. Keep in mind I will be out of country from the 16-23, so whatever I don't ship out by friday will have to wait until I get back.

Payment/Shipping Details

Final price for the stick is 39 USD. To figure out the total price to send to the main LTC address do the following complicated maths

  • $39 * number of sticks ordered
  • add shipping price
  • convert it to the current LTC price (around $3.5 per LTC)

If you have already verified yourself(which most of you have) just send that amount of LTC owed to the public address FROM THE SAME LTC ADDRESS YOU ORIGINALLY SENT THE DEPOSIT and PM me with your TX ID and full shipping address. (if you don't know what that address was just look at your deposit transaction on the blockchain to easily find it.

Shipping Prices:

-All US based customers have a flat $5 fee for up to 4 sticks with standard shipping and tracking. If you want priority shipping (2-3 days) price will be $7 for up to 10 sticks (if you have ordered between 5-10 sticks it will be shipped out priority for $7). If you have more than 10 sticks please contact me for shipping price.

International customers please send me a PM with your full shipping address as I need to calculate it individually. Price will be between $8-15 for up to a few sticks. Keep in mind this price is for First Class International USPS shipping, there is NO tracking and shipment can take up to 6 weeks with this service. Your other option is Priority Mail international which I can ship out up to 10 sticks for $28. If you ordered more than 5 sticks I would recommend this option since it has tracking, and delivers in 6-10 days. I will not be responsible for lost or delayed mail if you use First Class.

I will be adding $10 value to the customs form to keep taxes low, so let me know if you want me to put a different amount.
----------
The batch of 400 units is sold out. There will not be another batch so please don't contact me for more orders. Once shipment starts there could be extra units left so ill update the thread if there are units available once I have shipped everything out. Please keep this discussion to just ordering/shipping/etc. For more info about the miner and any technical or other discussions should be directed to the main thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1248914.0

-----------

Current batch is set for 300 units, at the time of this post there have been 206 units accounted for so 94 units remain. I could possibly expand batch size to 500 units if there is continued interest for more.
The final price will be 32 USD per unit plus shipping.

Below is main google docs sheet to keep track of everyone and status. I will keep this whole process completely transparent with everyone (only what you see currently in the doc will be publicly available...I won't publish any names/shipping/ltc addresses obviously)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11rcnSh4rAR5oeeCsb13BeHxmKOT29tUrOjXVIkl9NJA/edit?usp=sharing

IF you already posted in the bitcointalk threads you have automatically been added, if not reply on here with the number you wish to order.

The process to order these will be as follows:

1) 2 LTC deposit will be required to reserve your stick. I want to stay away from a per-order, but at the same time I can't just take peoples word that they will buy "20" sticks. This project will be built by me on my own dime so when I order 300 units worth of parts I need to know I will sell 300 units. This small 2 LTC deposit ensures that you are serious about buying one. The deposits in this address will not be touched and will be FULLY refunded if for whatever reason I cannot produce the batch or cannot ship all the sticks. The ONLY reason it won't be refunded is if you commit to the stick, I produce it, then you end up not wanting paying for one.

2)Please send in your 2 LTC deposit times the number of units you want. The address which will handle ALL transactions for the FutureBit MoonLander will be:
LbLSz3NASB4kGJWQYqRXUw5p3taKoHyWeR
This is the ONLY valid payment address for this project. I will NEVER contact you to send payment to any other address, and if I PM you Ill direct you to the link for this thread to view the address. So watch out for phishing scams that will most likely pop up with this project. DONT NOT SEND LTC DIRECT FROM AND EXCHANGE. Always send it from a personal wallet first.

If you have already expressed interests please send in your Deposit by Nov 27th, otherwise ill have to remove you from the list and you'll have to be added to the bottom of the queue if you want to buy one later. I want to place order for main parts by end of next week.

3)Send me your TX ID in a PM (or email me with subject MoonLander with your litecoin/bitcointalk ID at jstefanop @gmail.com), along with a signed message to confirm your the owner of the address, as well as your name/shipping address.

4)Once I begin assembly I will start shipping out in order I received. Before shipment I will ask for final price of stick minus your 2 LTC deposit plus shipping. Final amount will be sent to same LTC address. PLEASE use the same verified LTC address to send the final payment from which you used to send the deposit. Once I receive your final payment I will ship out same or next business day.

5) Shipment price will be a flat $5 for US shipments, and $8-15 for international depending on country using standard USPS for up to a couple sticks. If you want faster shipping PM me and ill get you an exact price. If you ordered more than a few sticks ill PM you with exact price.

I don't expect to conduct any international group buys, unless someone wants to coordinate this and has more than 50 units they can ship local. Anything under that you probably won't save much, as I'm keeping international shipping costs as low as possible by declaring low value for the miner, and the stick is small enough to be shipped in a padded envelope.

Guys please don't just blindly send me deposits. Follow the instructions...I need a PM with your TX ID AND a SIGNED message with your sent from address, message, and sig hash to confirm its you sending the deposit.

I already have a 10LTC deposit for 5 units which I don't know who it belongs too...

If you really have no way to pay with LTC we can work something out.

Guys please don't sent LTC to the public project address from an exchange, this is very unsafe and bad for both of us. If you really cannot set up a personal LTC wallet then PM me before you send anything and well figure out another way...BUT DO NOT SENT CRYPTO DIRECT FROM EXCHANGE ADDRESS. There are plenty of lightweight wallets for Litecoin as well so you can set up and sent transactions in minutes.

Probably you already know, but I'm just saying since I don't know how often you update it.

I have expanded batch size to 400 units, and removed people who had not submitted deposits by now so there are now 130 units up for grabs. All the people still interested please follow the instructions at the first post and send the 2 LTC per stick you want to the public address and ill add you to the list, and send me a PM with the required info.

DONT SEND LTC FROM EXCHANGES DIRECTLY.

Im hoping to wrap things up this week with the final design from tester feedback, and make component orders by end of the week. With holidays coming up there might be a week delay on shipments depending on how fast I can get pcbs etc.

PM sent.

I can say from the prototype model I got it is very fun to play with.  I'm still got a few things I want to do testing.  But if your looking for a fun little miner this is a great one to add to your collection.

Anyone know if these little sticks will work with any current pi mining OS like minera?

It can be built under RPI so yes it can work with it.   Right now easily under raspbian on RPI can run, and I have one running.

Minera would not have the custom BFGMiner loaded on it for the moonlander though. I think it will take a custom buid. This was done for the compac, so it's something very possible.  Just don't think anyone has done yet.

Im the current maintainer for the scrypt drivers on bfgminer, once the stick ships the driver will be merged into the main bfgminer branch. So it will work "out of the box" with minera. Of course doing this yourself is easy enough...you just need to replace the bfgminer directory minera builds with the custom driver for it currently.

I stand corrected then.  That is even better then I thought on that.  Out of the box is great that it's going to do that.

So even more good things about these devices :)

Thought I should post in here as I have been enjoying playing with the miner.   This miner is a lot of fun, if your from the GPU day's it will bring back a lot of memories with being able to mine scrypt.  It's amazing what they can do with one asic chip.  I had not mined scrypt for a while since I sold my A2 but this device allows me to mine a little and have fun.

Here are some pictures of prototype:

For slideshow and higher resolution pictures: http://s100.photobucket.com/user/notlist3d/slideshow/moonlander?sort=3

So the device does exist, and does work. I have not went into numbers yet as I am using a backup hub on my raspberry pi, which does not have as much electricity.  I need to get another hub to show this miner justice.

I've had some fun with the prototype.  I have not posted speed as my hubs are not great for the miner.   I have mainly mined directly to PC, which is more limited on power.  So i have direct connected and used PI and Windows.  I have been using windows the most.

I need to get a new hub as it seems the USB 2's I have just are not cutting it.  They are cheap hubs I will admit that on current ones.

That heatsink looks larger than the compac heat sink, is this correct or am I misjudging it?

That heatsink is a prototype(24x24x50mm), I think its taller and less wide than the compaq's . The final production version will be 25x20x45mm, have 7 fins, and black anodized.

I just posted so people could see that it does exist and was not vaporware.  As mentioned it will change once into production.

Production should look pretty nice I think it was decided black PCB and if using black heatsink I could be a great look.

The batch is officially sold out! Thanks to all that put their trust in me and ordered in advanced of shipping. Things are still on track to get these assembled and start shipping end of Dec/first week of Jan so all the orders keep an eye on this thread and will keep you updated. Ill ask for final payment + shipping when I can ship your order within 24 hours. These will be shipped out in the order I received original requests (check the order sheet the list is in the right order). Ill post more detailed instructions closer to shipping date.

Great man, good job with this project so far.  Really looking forward to running some scrypt sticks, and I hope this can work towards another model that resembles a SHA256 R-box for a 25-35 Mh/s Scrypt desk top miner!

I think it really shows the support the community is willing to provide to homegrown asic solutions, were tired of the announcements with the huge price, extreme shipping cost and no competitors to choose from.

Just wish we had more chips to choose from and build stuff with!

Really like the black!   It's going to turn out to be a nice looking miner it seems like.   Not many use black which I think makes it that much cooler.

I have still been playing with the prototype some and it is still working away.  So hope for good things from these :)

Yea I can't wait to get my hands on these. You guys probably didn't notice but I used 2oz copper on the production version. I was getting around a 50mv voltage drop from buck to ASIC at full power draw of around 10 amps on the 1oz prototype boards. This translated to almost half a watt of wasted power and extra heat. This will be cut in half with 2oz copper so final product will be even more power efficient!

Not until I'm ready to ship your order out. Once I can ship it out within a day or two ill contact people in the order on the list. PCB manufacturer was swamped with year end orders and since I'm "low priority" they still haven't completed all my boards. They are promising they'll ship everything out to me on Friday, so if thats the case ill be able to start shipments by midweek next week.

Well unless it has been hacked or image changed I don't think it will work. It works with the compac as it is made to be seen as an U3, I doubt that is possible for this device.

I have built a custom bfgminer driver for this, with full support of all bfgminer features (no hacked pieced together driver). It will have auto-detection, frequency settings etc.  Any third party solutions that can run bfgminer as the backend interface will work with these, but you will need to install the version I will provide with the Moonlander driver included. The driver will also be pushed to Luke's main branch, so any miner software that uses bfgminer will just need an "update" run to work with my sticks.

Im compiling the final binaries and putting together a support/getting started thread so keep an eye out for that in the next few days.

it shouldnt be too hard to crosss-compile the bfgminer for the R1.
ive never really used bfgminer, does it have the same api as cgminer?

Shipments will start going out on Thursday morning. I am currently taking full payments for the first 15 or so orders on the order list. If your name is up to Row #22 you can send your full payment and I will have your stick shipped by Friday latest. Please have your payments in by tomorrow night or I will open up payments to the rest of the people and will have to skip over you. Keep in mind I will be out of country from the 16-23, so whatever I don't ship out by friday will have to wait until I get back.

Payment/Shipping Details

Final price for the stick is 32 USD. To figure out the total price to send to the main LTC address do the following complicated maths

  • $32 * number of sticks ordered
  • add shipping price
  • convert it to the current LTC price (around $3.5 per LTC)
  • subtract 2 LTC * number of sticks ordered from that amount

If you have already verified yourself(which most of you have) just send that amount of LTC owed to the public address FROM THE SAME LTC ADDRESS YOU ORIGINALLY SENT THE DEPOSIT and PM me with your TX ID and full shipping address. (if you don't know what that address was just look at your deposit transaction on the blockchain to easily find it.

Shipping Prices:

-All US based customers have a flat $5 fee for up to 5 sticks with standard shipping and tracking.

Will I need a second PI unit and hub or will I be able to stick these on the same pi and hub as gecko compac stick miners?

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. As long as the hub can handle the extra power the sticks will come up as their own separate com ports. You will just need a separate instance of bfgminer to run them.

Can Minera do this?

yeah what you can do is just name the bfgminer different and put it in the custom folder.

Well this is embarrassing.....seems from the below list I'm first on the list :)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11rcnSh4rAR5oeeCsb13BeHxmKOT29tUrOjXVIkl9NJA/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11rcnSh4rAR5oeeCsb13BeHxmKOT29tUrOjXVIkl9NJA/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0)

In that I have YET to get the Gekko 8gh USB BTC chip miners to work on a compaq evo n800v  unbuntu 12.04 (as high end as I can go on this laptop)..I use these as a guick and dirty way to monitor my titans with putty...seemed like a good idea...toss some usb sticks on them as well..yeah ...right :(

me being first on this list is kind a lame .>>>(it takes a village for me to get cgminer (also tried bfgminer) up...so expect yelling for help on here

I got plenty to try from others helping in the gekko thread (cgminer) completely gave up on bfgminer working....

Will try this YET again (9th or 10th try) and yeah it likely is ME...(i work with dev disabled ..how did I get involved with all you crypto geeks ...out of my element)

anyway got some more advice and a 3.0 usb hub will take yet another crack at it

....but anyway just thought it was funny I was first in the que ...in that I've been clueless on why this stuff has not worked on the gekko sticks :(

(just an example for the thread on why the world is unfair)

On a side note: The 1.6 billion dollar power ball lottery ticket that won was sold in California...can you imagine if Kim Kardasian or Charlie Sheen or Bill Cosby won?
It would 'melt' the Internet :) That would be 160 B  / 32 usd a usb.....or 5B moonlander sticks (not including shipping) :)

anyway hopefully I can get the gekkos up and such will be easy for these moonlander usb's ......but its a 'quest' now for me!

anyway good to have goals/guests/impossible tasks/ unicorn hunting/etc

So first couple shipments went out...I think I underestimated the amount of time it would take to clean these up from assembly, program them, and prep them for shipment. I should be able to ship another 50 units or so tomorrow so that should cover most of the first half of the orders. Unfortunately I wont be able to get to the bottom half until I get back from my trip.

Whoever has not paid yet does not have to pay until the 22/23rd, which is when the second batch of shipments will go out.

I think I've caught up with PMs and the order sheet should be up to date...time for some sleep!

No these are the last chips...I have a 100 boards left over which I might assemble if I get around to it after I finish shipping. Resellers will have around 150 units once they all get them so plenty to go around.

I do have a few units left over so if someone wants one just hit me up. I *might* make a hundred or so more from spare boards I have so keep an eye here.

Just finished up a smaller batch 2 for people that didn't get a chance to order batch 1. Stick are available to ship immediately, and since this batch is a no risk and no pre-order (plus pricing went up on everything since it was a smaller batch) price will be $39 + shipping this round.

Payment instructions and the like are the same, so please follow the instructions on the first post. Limit 4 sticks per person this time so more people have access to them!

i would be interested if OP is working on fixing the bugs these have..

they dont go very long before they stop hashing.. sometimes never even turning in one share..
i have to keep restarting bfgminer every 5 minutes to make sure they are all working..

lowering the clocks doesnt seem to help and actually makes it worse.. running them at 144 i wont go a whole hour before all 8 are showing 0.00kh/s

eventually they all drop down to 0.00kh/s one at a time.. the thing is the bfgminer still thinks its mining (if you turn on degugging its still sending work to the chip, also the yellow light flashes the same as the other ones).. so im pretty sure its a driver timing issue.

they are also VERY picky on what pool you put them on.. seems the OP only tested them with litecoinpool.org and they work great on that pool.

other pools not so much.. including multipool.us and nicehash.. they give you 100% rejects.

but they are kind of fun, they have blinky lights and make about 1$ a month each on litecoinpool.org.

OP did say something about a version 2 at one point.. hopefully they will be a lot faster and more reliable.

Has anyone found a host PC that will run more than 16 of these reliably with the Superbpag hubs? Seems like the most any Pi can deal with is maybe 8 at a time.

Regular Pi - 4
RPi2 - 4-8
RPi 3 - 8 or maybe 12

I have 40 of them, and a ton of Pi's sitting around, but would much rather run a single linux PC that can manage to keep all 40 running at the same time. I know the chips came from the alcheminer, and that uses a single Pi of one sort of the other to run boards full of these chips - but I cannot manage to keep any more than maybe half of them running for any decent period of time. Could really use some help with this request.

Thanks,
R00tdude

this is a scrypt algo

antminer r1 is a sha-256

on mine that i have clocked at 352 Mhz im getting almost 1.0 - 1.15 MH/s

stock clock on these if i remember correctly there around 144 Mhz so that should net around 398 Kh/s or so

Hello,

is there still any interest for some units? I am debating giving up home mining, in which case I would have 12 available for sale.

Let me know.

You need to look here for settings info.

Code:
Frequency:

The MoonLander can run on a very wide range of speed and efficiency, and leaves a lot of tuning up to you guys. Make sure you read up on the Hardware section below where I go more in-depth on frequency and voltage tuning.

The Moonlander has a default frequency setting of 144mhz, and can range from 104mhz to 400mhz.

To change the frequency just edit the number after —set MLD:clock= in the startup scrypt. You cant just put any number you want in there, otherwise it will default to base 104mhz. Between 104-200 mhz you can set the frequency to any number that is a multiple of 8, so 104, 112, 120 are all valid frequencies.

Between 200-400 mhz you can use any number that is a multiple of 16, so 256, 320 etc are all valid.

I don't recommend going past 352 Mhz on these unless you have really good cooling, as they get really unstable past the frequency and need to turn up voltage past 1v.

Hi, are you still selling those? I'm interested in buying 3 (or 4, depending on price and shipping).

Thanks in advance.
