Title: Desktop crashed, how can I retrieve my coins from my wallet?
Post by: Elninio on December 02, 2015, 12:12:01 PM
Hi,

So a couple of days ago I got the dreaded blue screen on my desktop so being somebody who is relatively new to Bitcoin, I just never thought to backup my wallet. Of course, now that my Desktop has crashed I realise I should have had my wallet backed up, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

So what I need to know is how do I go about retrieving the coins I had in my Multibit wallet? If I simply download a Multibit wallet to my new Desktop and login with my usual login details does the wallet sync? Or is there something more than that I need to do. As of yet I have not done anything as I wanted to seek some advice first. ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If it was multibit HD, and you wrote down your seed, it's a matter of reinstalling and restoring (altough i think so, i've only restored electrum wallets so far)

Thanks @altcoinhosting,

I've kept a record of the Date Stamp and also my Wallet Words however, I don't know what the "seed" is. What exactly is the seed?

Cheers

The wallet words are the seed.

Thanks for that @knightdk. Just to confirm I have this correct, all I gotta do is download Multibit to my NEW desktop, login with my usual login details and then go through the whole restore process. As I've mentioned at the top of this thread, I am now using a completely new desktop, the original desktop my wallet was installed on is dead.

Thanks guys.

#1 download multibit (make sure its the correct URL) -> https://multibit.org/
#2 install multibit
#3 restore from seed (wallet words + timestamp), there is no login as there are no wallet files.
