@Unthinkingbit: could you link to this post at your OP? Should be helpfull for beginners.

To avoid issues finding the devcoin qt program program, posting a new thread here so everyone can find the devcoin wallet a bit easier. If your blocks stop downloading, add the latest .csv file to your folders and it should continue.

Hello all. I am using K1773R's devcoin client for Windows and have been using it without issue for a month or two now but the other day the blockchain download just stopped at block 71999.

I have tried re-launching the program with -rescan which didn't work, then I re-downloaded the Devcoin windows client files again and copied my wallet.dat and addr.dat files into a fresh install which caused the client to begin downloading the blockchain from the beginning again but it got stuck again when it reached block 71999 and now the program occasionally shows the wrong address in the "Your Bitcoin Address" box but corrects itself when I click "Address Book" and select the ONLY available receiving address (the correct address for my client) and click "ok".

Any ideas...?

I think killer will have to address that, not sure if this is a known issue? I just checked mine, same issue.

I had the same problem the other day. I asked about it in the main Devcoin thread and was pointed to this file: http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/receiver_18.csv

Download and put it with the rest of the receiver files.

Ok, I have two sets of receiver files. One in my main "AppData/Roaming/Devcoin" folder and the other set is in "AppData/Roaming/Devocin/receiver"

I have added the file to both sets and relaunched, still no change. I then relaunched with "-rescan" still no change...

Thank you for trying though, I appreciate it.

I have also noticed that the "Your Bitcoin Adress" in the main window has a new address EVERY time I launch, but then corrects itself when I go to the address book, click my correct address and click ok.

I have found a couple other users in the BTC-e excahnge's chat with the same problem of their blockchain being stuck at 71999, but they are having the problem with the *nix version. It would seem to me that this is a problem with the devcoin client itself.

I copied the receiver 18 file to the AppData\Roaming\Devcoin and AppData\Roaming\Devcoin\Receiver files and after about an hour, it updated with the current blocks.

Ok, I copied over my wallet.dat and addr.dat to a new install of the devcoin client along with all new receiver files including #18 and the block chain has successfully re-downloaded and is current. Thank you all!!!

didnt knew this thread exists, watching now ;)
i dont maintain the source, i just create builds (and fix source according to Win* problems with compiling and libboost). please contact markm for such problems or post them here.

EDIT: the problem with fetching was because a mirror went down (according to devcoin thread).

Sorry to revive an old thread.

I have Win8 x64 and downed the Devcoin Windows Bundle. Unzipped everything in Program Files and ran once. The client does not make a connection. Subsequently, I quit again, placed the .conf file in AppData\Roaming\Devcoin folder with my own user/passwd details. Also, I downed the *18*.csv file and copies all these .csv files to the AppData\Roaming\Devcoin and AppData\Roaming\Devcoin\Receiver folder (the latter folder, I had to make manually).

I cannot get it working in Windows. Will use Vircurex address for now and set up a Linux VM later to get a GUI up.

After you downloaded all the files, did you put them into the appdata folder for devcoin and after you did that did you reopen it so it resynches?

I did exactly so, but the client does not show any connections, also not after a while.

no connections usually means firewall restrictions.

PS: added topic to watchlist, sry for late answer!

I can not install wallet on Windows XP.

I downloaded "The windows bundle" at: http://www.darkgamex.ch/devcoin/Devcoin-WindowsBundle.zip"

Unpacked in C:\Documents and Settings\[my_username]\Application Data\Devcoin\

Downloaded from http://92.105.105.155/devcoin/ *.csv files and put C:\Documents and Settings\[my_username]\Application Data\Devcoin\ and C:\Documents and Settings\[my_username]\Application Data\Devcoin\Receiver\

Launched devcoind.

Thanks for your reply!

it may be your firewall blocking it

BTC, LTC, NMC, PPC, TRC, IXC and FRC are working succesfully. The problems are with DVC only.

for furture debuging, attach the debug.log

Code:
IRC connect failed
this means you cant connect to the IRC to find new peers, so your firewall/ISP is blocking it.
i dont know if there are hardcoded nodes in devcoin, there are i guess but they are long gone so you cant connect? anyway, il send u a PM with my public node so you can bootstrap from it ;)

This wallet for me says Bitcoin at the top and in the context elsewhere on menus and such, does it say that for everyone else too? Or is that something I should be concerned about?
Thanks

Its just an edited wallet to accept dvc. nothing to worry about.

Just had a go at installing then transferring on vista and, aside from a bit of searching here on what to do with the csv files and trying to run devcoind rather than devcoin, fine here.

A basic question following from setting up the wallet - how does the transaction fee work with devcoins?

Sent a small amount to wallet from vircurex to test it. That was fine.

Sent some back again to be sure works both ways. Received, but unlike other cryptos the fee was added to the debit amount from outstanding balance, rather than subtracted from it. But that's ok now I know.

Wallet message stated 0.5 fee (may have been minumum 0.5 I can't remember, rather than the default 0.1, due to something like 'recently received sums/complications') yet fee taken was more than that. Talking a tiny tiny fee amount difference (~0.1 dvc) but in this case left the remaining test balance at zero so impossible to be sure of how calculated; so would appreciate if someone could explain or point to info on any mins/max involved here. Thanks.
ask in the main devcoin thread, this is a support thread for the winblows build

Hi guys

I have downloaded and installed the client for windows - and followed the instructions with all the receiver files and such.

Unfortunately my client won't download the blockchain at all - it won't even start downloading it. None of the other clients on my computer have this problem.

Should I try and use a different port in the devcoin.conf? I have no idea what to do!

The error I'm getting in devcoind is:

Socket error: connect, 0

The error is gone, my client shows connections to up to 8 peers, but doesn't even start downloading the blockchain.

Deleted it from my computer to try again, and now getting this error:

Code:

I had the same problem. Let me guess: 64 bit OS? I have not found a solution yet.

reading a error message helps: "Access is denied"
this means devcoin.exe has no permissions to write in these Pathes (probably run as admin?).

There are other files http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin

I'm using the 'Devcoin Experimental Windows32 Setup Exe' and it's fine for me, after copying wallet from old install to that one (although it is still 'experimental' apparently so if you're not sure about installing it please wait for replies here - or try the main devcoin thread - from those who built them; killer, psybits I think)

Discussion here (I also recall a recommendation to back up the wallet first before encrypting)

I'd recommend using this build for a smoother install (NOTE: it is technically still experimental but I haven't had any problems with it and the install is pretty much automatic - just keep a copy of your wallet.dat safe elsewhere after you have set it up just in case)

I'm not even sure if it should still be experimental as it really does install and run like a dream  ;)

No problem. Just let it run - give it a few minutes it should start automatically.

EDIT: also just check with your firewall that it's getting through if it doesn't automatically start downloading the blockchain after a few minutes.

For anyone else out there who is having trouble with a second install, please make sure to fully remove the first install first by following the below steps:

Click on search windows in the bottom left above the start button, type in

%appdata%

then delete the entire Devcoin folder with everything in it (assuming you don't have a Devcoin wallet on your computer - if you have a wallet there you need to cope your wallet.dat from the Devcoin folder inside %appdata%)

Then try running the installation again now the old Devcoin install has been fully removed from your computer  ;)

Very noob question:
Devtome mentions that you need to have an address that can receive accept share generation payout rewards. Can the file found at the link you provided generate an address that can do that? Or are their additional modifications that have to be made?

Thanks

Yep the link that psybits has in his post is for a devcoin wallet setup, similar to the bitcoin wallet, and will generate an address that you can use for devtome. You shouldn't have to do anything else, unless as he says you already have an old devcoin wallet on your machine, in which case follow his steps to backup and copy over the wallet.dat file.

One more question: I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit and when I install the exe for devcoin it all works fine and then the first time I run it, the program opens and gives me an address, etc. However when I close the program and try to open it again it does not open. Why does the program only open once and never again? What did I do wrong?

Thanks

sometime the program stuck at downloading or networking issues, you may stay to wait for some seconds or even several minutes, the time depend on how many block there to be download and some other factors.

hi everyone. sorry for reviving this thread, but ive run into a problem with my wallet.  I cant seem to get it to connect. I have turned off firewall, downloaded recievers, etc.  ??? So, to try to avoid the hassle all together, can i use a cryptsy.com address for the writer submissions? It would make my life a whole lot easier. :D

Thanks.  8)

Probably not, but you could ask cryptsy.  For the most part, exchange addresses do not support getting generated coins.

What program did you download and from where?

I just received my first payment from devtome. Curious: Does this wallet show your amount of devcoins in BTC or does it show your amount of devcoins... The payment from devtome was for 11.00 but im not sure what that means since the wallet is branded completely BTC. Halp?

Hi guys, just need a bit of advice regarding the devcoin wallet. I have downloaded the windows wallet from the devtome site, and installed it no problems. It has connected and is synching, however on startup the windows firewall blocks it and i have to manually allow it to start. After i minimise, it just refuses to open again and will not do so until i restart. I checked the windows firewall settings and it is checked as an allowable application. Any ideas? I am running Windows 8
