Do you really think a video makes a difference? I'm all about promoting btc, but just because its mentioned, doesnt mean it will have affect.

Will the video make a huge difference? Probably not. Will bitcoin jump to over $500 because some popular youtuber mentioned bitcoin in a video? I doubt it. Will some people be introduced to bitcoin from the video? Sure. I'd say a small percent of the people who watch the video might google what a bitcoin is. A smaller percent may even try and get a bitcoin wallet and a fraction of a percent might even earn some bitcoin on faucets or purchase some bitcoin. I think the biggest thing here is that this video might reach some people in his audience that might not have been told about bitcoin before. I don't think a massive advertising campaign would convert people to start using bitcoin overnight. I think it will be small amounts of people converted slowly by different people presenting in different ways.

Never heard of the guy but he seems to have quite a few followers and he indeed mentioned a really fun fact about Bitcoin. Maybe some of those 5 million followers are now curious to know a bit more about Bitcoin :)

Bitcoin has been mentioned before by well known youtubers. A couple of months ago Rhett and Link talked about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. They were primarily talking about feathercoin for some reason though.

maybe you could share the link to the video? i usually watch good mythical morning though i have never seen a video about cryptocurrencies it would be very interesting to watch it in my opinion

Well it always help to slowly get people going and get them introduced to Bitcoin thought mainstream popular people is one of the best was to do it, because if someone they like uses it they will use it too and get involved.

It was uploaded today, or roughly around today depending on where you live, and it now has 276,000 views. It will become popular enough soon.

Very few Youtubers get over 500,000 views in the first day of a video being uploaded, and this guy has about half of that. I expect his video to break 750,000 by the end of the week, and then have >1,000,000 by the end of January next year.

People will most likely watch the beginning and end of the video, and chances are they will see #4.

would have been better, if the whole video was about Bitcoin and he explained it a bit more. The guy has enough subscribers for some good exposure... so let's not split hairs

It wouldn't be quite that bad. Even the greatest fortune seekers will realizes the difference between a couple of cents coin and a 400 usd coin. The times to become millionaires from a hundred dollar are long gone.

A lot of people will become more aware of bitcoin though, and that's the good thing about this kind of stuff. Maybe we should all start commenting on the bitcoin part? ;)

Michael Santoro's account has 5.02312 million subscribers, but unfortunately bitcoin just discussed a little, although it was nice, but certainly not exactly the maximum effort to advertise bitcoin.

still too low, talk with pewdiepie to do some bitcoin promotion, or any other on his league, 400 is very low, there was  avideo about bitcoin already with a much better number of views..

a really great and interesting video in my opinion subscribed to his channel as a lot of his videos are very cool, its nice to see that bitcoin is getting more and more attention though i doubt that this can have a big effect on price

And now it's over 533,000 viewers, his average viewers around 1M . it's still possible to reach like 1-2 M viewers since it's just uploaded yesterday. Let's hope people getting interested to know and use bitcoin.

First of all, this dude is not so famous, because I never seen him before until now. Secondly, it seems like rather insignificant 'fun fact' people hear and forgot almost instantly.
If I was not familiar with bitcoin before I would probably did not know what Mattew Santoro is talking about. I am still waiting for REAL famous YouTuber - like PeWDiePie to mention bitcoins.

I had not heard of him either but he has 5 mil subscribers and get very higher figures viewing per vid.  It only takes 2 seconds to look at the stats.  Its a big world out there and bitcoin can be used anywhere, he is clearly very famous.

He has 540.000 views in just 1 day! His videos are usually streamed 1.5-2 million. That's definitely a good exposure for Bitcoin, but it's not enough. Maybe we'll see 25-30 new Bitcoiners here but we need better audience. That's why we need national TV streams. Remember TV streams in 2013 October and November, Bitcoin made its peak and almost everybody see the name in TV.

Good exposure, there are some huge youtubers out there with millions of followers that worship them in the gaming world and all it takes is a mention and that will no doubt get more people looking at bitcoin, all publicity is good right.

Oh cool. Half a million views already with 5 million subscribers. Keep in mind how many people are in the world though. We have a long way to go but this is still cool.

Actually it makes some difference in my opinion, the viewers of that video would learn about bitcoin and they might also spread the word about bitcoins to their friends or family. it won't have much price effect though, we don't need that atm we need new faces in bitcoin.

A headline news on washingtonpost might just get noticed by a thousand taht will have interested to btc but with less than 10K, I'm not sure if it can convince anyone to join the btc community.
If masterp's scamming can be on the front page, it might just attract users to read how he scammed thousands. Assuming he really did it.

well if the user has like millions of subscriber den that means the view count of the video will be very very high. in this way, the news will be spread out a lot more faster. maybe 0.001% of the audience will try bitcoin out and 99.999% dont care, however, at least they r aware of it and maybe years down the road, with  more exposure, it is easier to capture more ppl to join in as well.

well it is the truth that bitcoin does has its flaw. but well it is still a fact just hope that it wont not turn too many ppl away from trying and instead create more curiousity to try it out.

Well he hasn't attained 5 million subscribers by talking about Bitcoin all the time. Any mention of it should be good enough, regardless of the impact. If he talked about Bitcoin constantly, or excessively mentioned it in his videos, I can almost guarantee that he would not have the 5 million subscribers that he has today.

He has no intention of advertising Bitcoin, he merely has to find content for his videos.

but well this millions of viewers on his video will be negatively aware of bitcoin and will be more on the fence to try it out. so may not have a huge impact but u never know how one can link to another.

I think part of what this community fails to realize is that Bitcoin is not a barely know subject, many people have heard of it and they know at least some parts about it. The thing is that they are less interested in using it than we are, and that is why we don't see huge groups of people flocking to Bitcoin.

People know about it, they just don't want to use it.

I fully agree. Most of my friends and family know about Bitcoin, but they are neither facinated by it, nor are they interested in learning more about it.
