Title: Bitcoin - 1st Unique Bid Auction
Post by: xepera on December 17, 2012, 08:38:19 AM
Prize: 1/2 BTC
Submit Ticket to: not public
edit: Due to my game principle failure the rules change: Every user has to use a unique address. Ask for it and I will send you a unique adress via pm.

My time: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=37
Prize goes to winner at December 20th 2012, 12:00AM

Rules
-Do NOT Post Bidding amount BUT post your bitcoin address if sent your bid
-The bidder with the lowest unique bid wins!
-Bidding: 0.001 BTC Increments
-Bidding style similar to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unique_bid_auction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unique_bid_auction)
-Losing bids don't get returned

I got some BTC left over so I am in for a bit fun heading for christmas. Someone will take the Bitcoins home for low interest.

Winner and results will be announced on December 20th.

Currently Marker88 is in count, he owns the lowest unique bid (and single bid also :D)

I don't understand.

Why does he need anyone to say which bid is theirs?  And why do the addresses need to be unique?

I'd have thought he can just send the prize to the address that sent the lowest unique bid like how satoshidice do.  Just warn people not to use web wallets.

I think we need a sticky that contains warnings, for example: Don't overlook the fact that a game operator can play the game. If that requires you to trust them think about whether or not you trust them.

There is no need for unique adresses for each bid. With your first bid you create the link username <-> adress. From now on, if you bid a second time, i can allign your bid to your username and with the bid amount you take place in the result table.

@ dooglus: I won't put any result table online before the auction ends. But: To keep the thing interesting I will inform you from time to time which user keeps the lowest unique bid. Of course we could do this all completely anonymous me returning the price to the adress with the lowest unique bid. But I thought it would be a bit more trustful if the forum sees who's playing and who actually get's the reward and confirms that he got the price. :)

The blockchain is public. For example, I know the lowest unique bid right now is 0.001 BTC. What this means is that I can just check what is the lowest unique bid is, 10 seconds before the deadline is over.

To my shame i didn't thought about this serious failure in my game principle. Okay.

You would need to post your interest and I would give out personal adresses via personal messages. This kind of sucks now :D

I didn't realise it was meant to be a secret auction.

There's a game at http://y4x.com/ where it's much the same but the auction ends when the first block is found containing any bid.  The highest bid wins.  Everyone understands that everyone else can see all the bids, and just hopes that theirs is the biggest, and gets confirmed soon enough.

best would be to have an account manager panel at a website, fund my account with my bitcoins and place the bets inside the system, so noone will see the blockchain...

In my opinion the only way is to send unique addresses for each user. After the auction time all addresses will be published so everyone can check if all was played correct. :)

So pm me if you want to play :)
