I'm considering upgrading my bedroom silent warmer, which are 3x Antminer S1, doing 400GH/s combined, at under 20dB. So how quiet is the Avalon really? Can it do 800~1000GHs at 20dB or so?

No 20db is not going to happen.

But  it will go around 30 db at 800gh

They are pretty quiet as far as miners go and considering the amount of hashing rate you get.  They can be pushed to be very efficient and quiet.  That is what I did wit my set of 3.

Some day I will finally sell them.  Just have not got to it yet as I like them so dang much.

I have some max 18dB super quiet fan, it would not make a dent in a S5 but for a S1 undervolted to 140gh/160w, it works just fine.

I guess i'll keep an eye out for an Avalon 4, but its probably not worth going out of my way to get one in this case.

I am looking at 2xS3 from ebay, total 200USD shipped and no import costs since already in Canada. Would a single Avalon come down to something comparable in term of cost?

Not even close on price I don't think.  They never did compete with bitmain on price with s5's.  They were always higher.

But 200 is not in ballpark even I don't think.  But others can pipe in an say what they think.

Sound reasonable, also the unit at full speed is more hashrate than the S3's so i'd have to pay for the full hashrate, which would be fine.

But he has not replied with a price so i think i'll just get a S3 from ebay and switch the fans with fans i already have. Then maybe undervolt it. Should be full quiet and be enough heat along with my PC for the winter.

Do you have a price in mind? I'm not strongly desiring to buy, i mostly wanted to get options on the table. Ultimately i could simply keep the S1's. I was just thinking. "Could i get 1TH/s in my room as a heater instead of 500GHs for 600watts? And could it be as quiet? Would it be more profitable?

I have a idle RasPi anyways so thats not a problem. Assuming i can get my hand on the needed image. I suppose i would only need the cables thing to plug the miner into the Pi. Assuming there's an option to turn those Avalon4.1 cable to USB? I actually don't know how A4.1 work exactly.

If you don't strongly fell like selling, then no pressure. :) But if a great deal fall on my lap, i will certainly give it a thought.

I've been looking for this miner also because its very quiet but most that I find for sale cost more then a brand new S7 in terms of Th/$.
They got like a 7 months ROI with free electricity.

Ask for droid to sell to you instead of me then, his price is pretty acceptable imo. I'd pick one up but i'm dry on loose funds as i picked up a S7. And it doesnt really beat getting undervolted S3 in term of ROI.

I figured you'd ask him directly. Well to hell with it, he said he could offer me one for 0.65, you're more than welcome to PM him and ask him if that price is doable for you. I pretty much told him my budget for these don't extend over 200$ even though i recognize thats a cheap ass price.

But I only have one controller for the three so if I sell one or two I'm likely to keep the controller so I can continue running the remaining of the three units

These are all meaningless numbers, like most db readings. I've had a 4.1 as my main on point heater since it came out and underclocked with fan set low its so much quieter than my already quiet computer that I can't hear it. Both my 1500W Enermax PSU and CX750M were significantly louder than the 4.1 so I paired it with an RM1000.

You won't find one in that range.  These still are not bad machines.   They had premium for the quiet vs buying bitmain at the time.  And they have a huge ability to change speed.

.65 I think is pretty fair if anyone is wanting one of these.  Someday when I sell mine I likely will try to sell my set of 3 at once.   But I will mine with them for winter most likely.
