Title: Mining speed slower on pool than on web interface
Post by: cero9 on January 19, 2016, 12:42:59 AM
Hello, I'm quite new to the bitcoin world.

I'm facing this strange issue, I'm running a Dragon Miner T1 which should run at 1TH/s.
When I log into its interface I see, in fact, that it's running at the said speed, but, when I log into the pool, I can see a quite lower speed, something around 500 - 600GH/s usually.

Do you have any hint how this might be possible?
I replaced its fans so I might think it might be an overheating issue, but I don't understand why, on the miner page, it says the right, full, speed.

I also made some tries changing difficulty - don't think it matters, but I'm also not sure what to set

Any help?
Thanks

Start by checking the rejected/error rate. A 1th/s mining rate will not mean much if its wasting 40% of its work. Then try another pool. If its overheating, you should be able to tell if you have a thermometer.

If everything is clear, keep asking here until you find the answer you want.

Try Kano.is pool
Try mmpool.org pool

Run for six hours then compare

That was the case for me every time I tried to mine in a pool in comparison to mining in solo mode. In web it doesn't show the maximum speed right away, sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes to show full speed in web so don't panic and I don't think your hardware has any problem here.

You're right saying the difficulty won't change anything.
Try another pool or wait for a bigger sample size on your current pool.

Thank you all, I'm not sure but I think it's overheating and it probably started slowing down when I swapped the fans.

I still can't figure out the difficulty thing: isn't it slower to process more difficult hashes than easier ones? If it is, what does the 1TH/s speed refer to?

If it doesn't, why bother about difficulty at all?

Simply explained, it's how much work needed to gain shares in the eyes of the pool. If you have a fast miner and your difficulty is too low, there's a risk that your shares will be rejected because you could be spamming the pool.

It's completely unrelated to your miner's hashrate.
