Title: 2016: Revenge of the Alts

Lol funny. You seem to be quite right here, recent Dogecoin price raise caught many unwarned. Cryptos aren't likely to die, when rumors struck BTC, then altcoins go up. Just too many to end.

Altcoins will always be around and as long as alt's are so will btc. It works both ways. Alts diversify the market IMO.

I think that 2016 would be the year of the alt coins. Especially Ethereum, which is getting pumped too much. Prices have been constantly increasing over the past hours over the majority of alts. So that means it is the season to make profits with alts! All I am doing now is selling most alt coins I had for BTC as its price has gone lower recently in contrast to the alts.

If Chinese are getting into alts, then it is a good way to take advantage and go to the moon! Just my opinion.  :D

I am afraid that pumping price to perform epic dump is not good thing for any coin. Perspective of easy and fast earning is tempting but:
1) you must have good timing to not miss the dump
2) after dump usually there is nothing left from the previous hype, so I would be more moderate with expectations about future of particular coin

Could be...  The only way to profit is for the insiders, whales or whoever to pump these coins.

This is craziness.  Now being a frequenter of the speculation section, I have to say:  Did anyone predict this was going to happen?

And it figures that I sold all my DOGE months ago.  I have a very bad habit of selling too soon.  Ugh.

not just chinese on chinese exchanges, these exchanges because of the vol (and often no trading fees) attract big traders from all nationalities.

Fortunately, I still had a few mil doge in an wallet that I finally gave up today. Figure with this huge of a spike, I can buy them all back when they drop back down into the 30's and still retain a decent profit. Then I will wait another 6 months for the next spike. :)

Very good charts many thanks.

I think about investing in the coins that haven't have the big increase already like
Litecoin
Peercoin
Monero
Dash
Stellar

Because probably the profit takers will invest in Alts that will gain further potential.

Well we all look unto the Chinese whenever something comes up do we?

On the other note, I do not really think those alts mentioned would rise up from their graves.

If it really is a new altcoin bull market, that's what they'll do. Speaking of Stellar, Ripple's "caught a bid" (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ripple/) and is back at #2; its charts looks pretty good in BTC terms.

Also keep an eye on NXT and Bitshares. The latter has a nasty habit of sucking you in via a pump only to head to new lows (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitshares/), but it might have turned around as of now. NXT's chart, on the other hand, shows a more credible bottoming (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/nxt/).

The problem is if you're thinking of what alt to buy due to the recent price spike, be careful as those prices may also fall back if profit takers are starting selling their shares.

Altcoins are rallying huge after a big dump last year when bitcoin was rising. I have not seen this situation for a long time when the tide makes almost all the altcoins boat rising.

That's a wise advise. I fully agree with you.

I guess the chinese are pumping the altcoin market. They are probably waiting for it to consolidate but when it's done they will dump their coins hard.

I'm not jumping is this. I will keep half of the altcoins I have and sell the other part right now.

100% increase with doge, 35% with blackcoin. I would be way too greedy to hope for more profit.

Glad you're finding it useful. I've temporarily appended it to Minkiz' front page https://minkiz.co/ (https://minkiz.co/). I've added a chart generation datestamp in the interests of clarity. Unfortunately, I haven't yet devised a crufty solution for automating the cross-referencing so right now it has to be hand-guided which is why the schedule is -ish but I'll endeavour to post a midday(-ish) update until things settle down a bit.

If you want to cut out the middleman, grab some exchange trading summary data, cross-reference the listed coins and exchanges against the DOACC metadata (https://github.com/DOACC) and Bob’s your uncle.

Thanks for the positive feedback, I'll see what improvements I can wreak.

Cheers

Graham

I do not think 2016 will bring a "revenge of the alts"

Most alts still are clones built solely to pump and dump. Some alts will do well but those will the alts that bring something of value that is unique and not already present in BTC.

Yes, still counting. Currently up to 2758 (https://minkiz.co/coin/name/) (or will be when I update later).

Thanks for the reminder about the 8btc site.  I had a quick check, don't seem to missed have anything pertinent.

I rounded up a handful of CN-local alts listed on https://1szb.com/ (https://1szb.com/), it was difficult to discover much about them and there's a regrettable tendency to avoid publishing source code, so I guess they may be destined to languish.

Cheers

Sir you are very fortunate.   I'm totally kicking myself for selling all of those coins off. I could easily have quadrupled my coins within the last 3 days. Like I said, it's totally craziness.

Actually more like sheer luck, I had almost put them out of my mind but when I saw Doge rising I remembered I had a few somewhere and was a bit surprised when I found the wallet and saw I had so many. In this situation it worked out well, as it took the block-chain a bit to sync up and the wait for confirmation time on the exchange probably netted me a few extra 10's of satoshis, as I would have sold them all off at 80-90 if I could have transferred them sooner.

Well, still hoping for a drop back to 30's in the next weeks/months, as I will be able to buy back and not only double the amount of doge I had, but also retain almost half the profit I made in BTC. Love to finally have been a part of a 4x rise in a coin and actually on right right side of the trade, haha.

Now to not lose it all looking for more upcoming pumps, that is the real secret I think.
