Title: Rand Paul drops out of US presidential race

Pretty sad. Very near the beginning of the presidential race he seemed to be doing quite well, but he ended up just not being good enough at politics.

I haven't been following the other candidates. Are any of them decent? IMO, the most important issue (especially for a president) is maintaining peace, and it seems like almost all of the candidates are way worse than Obama, ready to go recklessly into a deadly and expensive war.

Actually, it is good for him that he dropped out. Why? He would have promoted the shutting down of the Federal Reserve Bank, and like JFK, and he would have been assassinated. All his work would have been for naught, and he would be dead. At least this way he gets to live and fight in other ways.

:)

Trump seems to be the only one thatīs not totally war-crazy and in the pocket of Wall Street. Which of course makes him very unpopular with garbage media, a key asset of the war industry.

Personally, this is what I'm looking for in a candidate:

  • Abolish the entire tax code and replace it with a 10% flat personal consumption tax. No gift tax, no inheritance tax, no capital gains taxes, no corporation taxes.
  • Stop punishing those who commit victimless 'crimes'. End the war on drugs.
  • End all welfare programs, social safety nets, etc. Gradually phase out social security.
  • Non-interventionism. Stay the fuck out of the middle east unless a country poses a direct threat to the United States.
  • Pure Laissez-faire. No tariffs, no subsidies.
  • Ending foreign aid to all countries.
  • Presidential pardons for Manning, Snowden, and Assange

Gary Johnson (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1326709.msg13691249#msg13691249) is probably the most similar candidate compared to Paul.

Well, I donīt think heīs talking war about every time he opens his mouth like the nutcases that morons are supposed to vote for and he doesnīt belong behind bars for war crimes like that Clinton woman.

I probably couldn't support or vote for Trump. He seems extremely inconsistent, and what he says is often not well-thought-out.

As for whether Trump is better than the others, I'm not sure. Looking at his stated platform, I guess he might be OK. His platform is 75% terrible, but that's better than most, and he looks decent on the most important issues. It'd be especially good if he is incapable of effectively working with congress, since that'd slow down government action. But it's difficult to predict what exactly would happen if he was elected.

Yeah, I voted for Gary Johnson in 2012. But it's pretty unlikely that he could win. Maybe if it's Hillary vs some highly unpopular Republican nominee and the Libertarian Party really steps up its game.

I don't think Trump will win the Primary. It's either going to be Cruz vs Clinton or Rubio vs Clinton.

I also voted for him, but yeah, I agree with you. Highly unlikely of him winning. He would have a better chance running as a Republican

(but he doesn't want to)

I would love running as a Libertarian because I would have the least amount of explaining to do.

This was indeed disappointing, but it does mean that I should have more time to work on Bitcoin projects again. I'm not even going to try to work through the delegate process in the Iowa GOP this time, nor do I have plans to work with the libertarians, though I'll probably just vote for Johnson again in the general election.

I wonder if he won the elections anyway, if he would accept the job.    :)

I like Trumps bizareness but as for decent candidates on the Republican side even at this point in time I can't really say there are any that particularly stand out to me like Paul would say Trump.

As for slowing down congress considering how many times they near shutdown having a semi-independent presidency under a republican banner might be fun to see.
