I use Bitcoin Widget as a live ticker, and Bitcoin Wallet Ballance.  To watch the balance of my offlines.  I'll check out Bitcoinium, thanks.

Just installed the bitcoinium widget.  Much cleaner than the one I was using.

I think Strike Sapphire (https://strikesapphire.com/?afc=Gh16kyZ7G6) has a casino app.

Also, Seals with Clubs (https://sealswithclubs.eu/aff.php?aff=125) has a poker app in the works.

I think online poker is a great way to introduce people to bitcoin.  Especially all the free giveaway games to try out.

I do not have my cell phone with me but I had two that I checked constantly.

One was a Bitcoin price app and another had Bitcoin news. Basically an rss feed from somewhere.

Seconded, I've been using Bitcoin Widget and it has served its purpose reliably, I feel comfortable recommending it.  But Bitcoinium screenshots looks equivalent with some more features (plus ads, unfortunately?), I'll give it a try.

Do I need to open an account at StrikeSapphire to see their apps? I will add SealWithClubs once they are done.

I've found Bitcoin News on this website: http://www.appszoom.com/android_applications/news_and_weather/bitcoin-news_bepnb.html

I don't know this site. Is-it safe? Original related thread link is invalid.

Don't forget the new v1.1 version of SatoshiDICE for Android Tablet (not for phones)

SatoshiDICE Android App (http://satoshidice.com/roller/android/SatoshiRoller_App_v1.1_Beta.apk)
  MD5: ff89d643b9b2c8ab2c539dbcd6e2c73d
 SHA1: 5fa09730ed612c48817f84c79758857f62441fc7

(mac/pc/linux app also available (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=124093.0))

Installation instructions for Android: Download file, then enable Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources. Then install a file browser (folks recommend Astro), find the .apk you downloaded and run it. Android should install directly from the file on the device.

That's what I use it for, but now I'm using the blockchain app which you can import a watch only address.

The comments say that the app doesnt show incoming transactions, only outgoing ones, which makes it pretty lacky in my eyes. Havent tried it yet, though.

Nice feature. Unfortunately the playstore tells me that my htc Wildfire is not supported. I took a glimpse at it during my last Bitcoin tx in Argentina though. It looked a bid dull and didnt show how many confimations any given tx had (Bitcoin Spinner (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.miracleas.bitcoin_spinner&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5taXJhY2xlYXMuYml0Y29pbl9zcGlubmVyIl0.) doesnt either though).

I use Spinner and Bitcoin widget.

I can only warn you to not install all the bitcoin wallpapers and gadgets out there as it might be some scammer waiting for the exploit to part you from you android wallet balance. actually even the open source apps are not save as you would have to compile them yourself to know they are based on the reviewed code.

I trust Spinner to some degree and the widget I compiled myself not for security concerns but because I wanted to patch it.

I agree. I'm still reluctant to have any Bitcoin balance on my phone. You never know when a developer will push a rogue update.

Trading:
MtGox  (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mtgoxlive.trader&feature=related_apps#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEwOSwiY29tLm10Z294bGl2ZS50cmFkZXIiXQ..)

Mt.Gox Mobile hasn't updated for over year now and constantly crashes on my Nexus4. I don't think this app qualifies for the "best" Android app...

BitcoinSpinner does not show the number of confirmations as a number, but it displays transactions with less than 6 confirmations in grey, and unconfirmed transactions as "(unconfirmed)". Also, the front page shows "Coins on the way to you: XXX BTC" and "Coins you are sending: XXX BTC" if you have unconfirmed coins to/from your wallet.
My goal with BitcoinSpinner is not to make a tool for the tech savvy, but for average end users, so I try to distill the information into something more user friendly.

I understand that. But recently while taking my phone to a face to face exchange of BTC for fiat, I found it quite bugging, that you couldnt tell how many confirmations have actually been done to your transaction. That way usability is largely reduced for daily exchanges and trades if both parties dont have time to wait for 6 confirms (like only a lunch break to spend), but dont want to jeopardize their money with 0-confirms either. A simple display of the number of confirms would alleviate such concerns a lot (maybe greyed out out or in advanced mode only,..)

To make it fool proof, you could also display the number of confirms with traffic lights (text displayed in brackets):

0 Confirm: Questionmark (unconfirmed, please wait)
1-2 Confs: Red light (1 confirmation save to spend if small amount of money) or (2 confirmations save to spend if small amount of money)
3-4 Confs: Yellow light (3 confirmations save to spend if medium amount of money) or (4 confirmations save to spend if medium amount of money)
5-6+ Confs: Green light (5 or more confirmations, Save to spend!)

:( I guess I mentioned it before … I'm very surprised to see SVN. How do you do a pull request with SVN? Would you want a patch file and a revision number? Makes things more complicated, don't you think so?

It's not that complicated:
Get a copy of the code.
Make your change.
Send me a patch.

I didn't understand what you did with the preferences and would appreciate if you could explain it. Else I was happy it ran immediately after importing into my eclipse :)

If there are any bounties for BitcoinSpinner improvements (new preferences icons ;), more intuitive UI (did you know there is an actually working address book? It's very well hidden and once you know how it works, it works, although very very slow), … I would look into it again ;)

Hey Gizmo,

Thanks for the patch. I haven't looked into it in detail, but the screen shots look good. I'll dedicate some cycles to it tomorrow.

Regarding address book:
There is a huge Address Book button on the "Send" page, but it is disabled until you have addresses in it. I was under the impression that clicking the option button on the main page (and reveal the address book) was one of the first things a user would do on Android. Maybe I am wrong.
You mention that the address book is slow. What do you mean exactly? I have tested it on a pretty old Android 2.1 device, and to me it seems ultra fast.

Well, usage statistics (with opt in) could be one way to go. I would bet that not even half of those with more than 10 transactions have used this feature. The options button is kind of dying out. On later Androids, people are not used to press the options button that much. Maybe some options button on the main screen would get them to use it.

You mention that the address book is slow. What do you mean exactly? I have tested it on a pretty old Android 2.1 device, and to me it seems ultra fast.
When I start Spinner -> options -> address book -> add address -> 10s the list of recent receivers is empty. Later this list populates almost instantly.

I see.
This is however only when you want to add someone to the address book by looking at your recent transactions, which is an uncommon operation. Opening the address book and sending coins should be much more frequent and also very fast.
The reason why adding someone from your recent transactions is slow initially is because BS has to fetch the list of recent transactions from the server side. The second time you do a lookup the server has the result handy in a cache.

Still the first experience for the user is that he can't do anything with the address book. I could change it such that the list of (unlabeled) recent transactions gets displayed under the known addresses with loading visualized with a spinner. At least the spinner should be integrated in the "recent transactions" activity.

That's what I thought. No reason to not cache these permanently so they can be loaded from the device (and updated from the server if this is necessary at all).

How are the cycles doing?

Hmm, … I want others working on spinner to at least have a chance to find this so as you can't do pull requests in SVN (or can you?), I will put the patch into an issue.

I had offered a bounty for a couple of features to be added to BitcoinSpinner. Namely, the ability to manually set transaction fees (even under "advanced options"). But most importantly, the ability to nominate in mBTC and uBTC.

BitcoinSpinner is by far the best bitcoin android app right now. It's the first thing I install on people's phones when talking about bitcoin. And Bitcoin Paranoid is also an excellent ticker right in your notifications. Also, I have a shortcut to preev.com, a very simple and useful exchange rate calculator.

Can you add our offline wallet: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cayennegraphics.visualbtc ? It's a truly offline solution, all communication is done via animated QR codes. Server side is just a webpage in a browser (using HTML5 and JavaScript to read the animated QR codes and post the transaction to the Bitcoin network).

can you please repeat your offer? Most likely I will be available to hack this for you.
Please be very precise about what should happen for cases where the user has to pay a fee (dust), the transaction can't be sent even with a fee (650Satoshi? Is that fine dust then?) and the transaction would be processed faster with fee.
The mBTC, uBTC one should be the easy part but also has to be reflected throughout the app. It makes no sense to enter values in mɃ and the transaction history shows Ƀ.

Apart from the automatic fee settings (where the app determines what the recommended fee is, currently pretty large), be able (through advanced options/settings) to determine:
- Manual (nominal) input
- % of transaction
- $ or BTC / Kbyte

And yes, the values (Ƀ/mɃ) need to be reflected throughout the entire app.

I personally will donate 100 milies if/when these features show, regardless if they were because of my request or not. I understand this is not a very enticing amount, but if I'm not alone, perhaps I can help.

I'm currently using it an loving it, but its a little slow to load. You should have an option that will send a push notification (iPhone) every x seconds or x minutes with the current price on the exchange of choice. I used to have an app for that on android but miss it now!

Litecoin Widget (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=158777.new;topicseen#new) has over 30000 installs. Don't let the name fool you, it supports over 100 different coins (including bitcoin, of course!) across 19 (and counting) exchanges.

My creation:
FluxBitcoin Widget (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.leowandersleb.bitcoinsw) features a Sony Smartwatch 2 extension and both in the widget and on the watch you get latest rates of 4 exchanges (currently Bitstamp, MtGox, Huobi and BTC-China)

Edit: … and it's open source (https://bitbucket.org/giszmo/fluxbitcoin-monitor) of course. Talking of that: Please, if you go through this list and try out the widgets and stuff, don't just judge based on the developer claiming to have it open-sourced. "Nobody" uses the source version, so a trustworthy app is not an open source app but an app that you can punch the developer in the face if he robs you. Open source only helps people that actually can code.

Edit 2: Yeah, in theory open source helps the rest, too as a more trustworthy person could cheaply provide a more trusted binary and people in general might be able to monitor the binary but open source does not equal save to install from google play.

I recommend Bitcoin Checker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobnetic.coinguardian (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobnetic.coinguardian)).
It shows prices for all different coins from many different exchanges (Vircurex, Cryptsy, MtGox, BTC-e, Bitstamp, coinmarket.io and much more). It also has an alarm function (e.g. you can set it up to ring when the rate exceeds x $/BTC) and even a TTS (it automatically announces the course all X minutes per text-to-speech-engine. There's also a widget and best of it, you can put the rates you need most permanently in the notification bar.
I think it's a great app, fast, easy and feature-rich.

It's worked pretty well for me, only crashed once. Fastest app for checking market price.

Email the app creator, he's actually a super nice dude. Works for blockchain.info, I think his name is Dan or something.

I have just tried all of the different bitcoin apps for android so I can review a few of them. the blockchain app was giving me issues but it is the one that I liked the most too bad the issues cause me unable to use it. I think the site was giving it issues so it was going in and out on me but the widget on it and the interface is nice if only it worked i would use it. instead I settled on mycelium. the main thing that I wanted out of an app was the ability to look at one of my bitcoin addresses and see the balance and the transactions and I was able to scan my QR of my blockchain with mycelium and it does that but the only fall back of mycelium is it has no widget. I like a widget but thats just me. the rest werent even worth mentioning because they were either so broken or just did not work correctly in terms of bitcoin wallet apps. I use on the regular the bitcoin ticker though it gives a nice widget

In Mycelium, the user does according to the source code but with any binary from google play, the user has to trust the developer with his funds so for me the first question would be, who is the developer and then who holds the keys.

I loved Bitcoinium but it hasn't been updated since January 26, 2015.
It doesn't support new exchanges, new cryptocurrencies (e.g. Ethereum) and new mining pools.
Is there a similar android app that supports widgets of different categories combined like Bitcoinium did? (exchange ticker - pool hashrate - wallet balance)?
Is the source code maybe available so we can continue updating it?

For Bitcoin price widget I use coinbase, It shows me in real time (when I have an internet connection) the price of bitcoin and ethereum.
It is also for iOS, and it is supported with 3D touch (iPhone 6S and up) and in iOS 10 as a widget!

I haven't tried Jaxx wallets but keeping it in a cloud would probably attract hackers if they can really hack it and get into it. The cloud is an amazing thing, not just with that sensitive information (if you are keeping lots of money in your wallet there). Better use it for small amounts.

is there an app where the qr option works properly? currently use the blockchain app for android but for some reason it constantly crashes when trying to scan qr codes.

The blockchain system has always been a powerful system, however, due to the large number of transactions per day, and the blockchain's current block size can not meet, which has caused delays in transactions, I think they should increase the number of blocks larger, but many people do not seem to accept that.

The best bitcoin wallet app and widget that i know is the coins. ph . Because coins. ph is an app where you can store your bitcoin and at the same time your bitcoin can grow bigger in a short period of time with the help of this app. If you can invite a friend and use the app you can have 50 pesos in the philippine money currency, and there are also other thing that you can do to increase your money.

I think Bitcoin Checker. Because Bitcoin Checker is one of the most popular cryptocurrency apps. This rock solid app is a go-to for many people who use cryptocurrency. It shows you the up-to-date prices on most cryptocurrencies all around the world. It features a simplistic UI, but the simplicity works in the app's favor due to the amount of information it shows. Whether it is Bitcoins, Doge coins, or something more obscure, this app will probably have information on it. It's also totally free to use

I am looking for an app that can display in widgets exchange rates (e.g. BTC/USD, ETH/EUR etc) AND cryptocurrency balances from their blockchains.
I know there's bitcoinium https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.veken0m.bitcoinium&hl=en (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.veken0m.bitcoinium&hl=en) but it doesn't support blockchains other that bitcoin and it doesn't get updated frequently.
Any suggestions?

The best bitcoin app and widget that i know is the coins. ph in coins.ph you can store your bitcoin and at the same time your money can grow faster and bigger. Your money can multiply in so many times. Example is when you invite a friend is you can get 50 pesos in change of the activity that you did.
I don't understand why it can make your money grow faster, it's just the price of bitcoin changing and that's how it grows but not the app itself. It's the users' strategy on how he or she will use his funds to propagate and make their money grow. That's a great thing to do, invite more people to the Bitcoin community.

I'm trading crypto coins (not an expert), and usually during the day I was checking coinmarketcap's website too see how the market moves... it gets a lot of time to open a link on the mobile so, I found an app "Crypto Currency Watcher" you can find it on Google Play, you just run the app and there are all the Coins updated every second. It saves me a lot of time
