>With regard to BTC refunds, I have sent all refund requests to Tom for processing.  I have also processed all credit card refund requests at this time.  I can't guarantee that the funds were there to back these refunds - I have no way to know this, and Tom never confirmed having done the bank transfer.

At this point, if you are thinking of sending me a refund request, I recommend you do a chargeback instead.

I will continue to update the community with any new information I can provide.

OK, I read everything in that link and I know this has nothing to do with me but could you shed some light on the situation?

I don't know anything about it.

I don't know who Tom is.

But someone grabbed some money and ran.

The only ASIC scam was Butterfly Labs and all others were just shills operating in behalf of BFL to make ASIC market look legit.

How sure are you of this?

Just as sure that Pirateat40 was going to scam from beginning.

The people who preordered any ASIC are strangely silent. It reminds me 1 guy 1 cup video. They by now probably realize how badly they are screwed, but they still remain completely silent while picking out shards of glass from bleeding rectum.

That's, a very vivid metaphor.

To be honest I expected the situation to be much more dramatic by now. Or maybe this is just the calm before the storm?  :)

Actually this is normal psychological reaction of humans. Ignore the bad news as they don't exist if it is possible.

And I was afraid that I did not preorder the minirig with bitcoins and bank loan. I even told some gangsters about possibility to make BTC for their needs and considered having few minirigs operating. I was so right to talk them into waiting some time to see how actually they perform.

Like someone's sig says, everything about bitcoins is both a scam, and legit at the same time. Until you open the box.

I am a pragmatist, and fully believe BFLabs will send you a weighted down box. Until I see pics of people that actually get the chips, then I wholeheartedly will believe they didn't scam anyone.

I think it all makes sense... These companies wanted to develop ASIC chips and be the world leaders of Bitcoin mining. So they got a few geeks together, made some designs and started taking everyone's money as "pre-orders"... They probably figured it was ok to do this since game developers do it sometimes... They'd take everyone's money and use it behind the scenes to actually develop a real product... it wouldn't matter because when they shipped everyone would be happy and we'd all be none the wiser. Sound about right?  :)

If I had a pre-order with any ASIC company I would get a refund now... Nothing against BFL or anyone else, just logic... the risk is that now there's going to be that "refund tsunami" and BFL and whatever other ASIC companies there are will be next...

Anyways, I'm proud of myself for not pre-ordering anything I couldn't see with my own eyes.

+1 me!  8)

At least game developers also provide demos or "behind the scenes look" at the production process.

Very few do that though, mainly because of course what they produce is rubbish and they know you'd cancel the pre-order if you saw a proper preview of what to expect, why these people can't just provide good products to begin with is beyond me.

There are crowd funding platforms pt there (ie. kick starter) but they require a solid and proven business plan.

I don't get why they did their funding like this ..... And how someone could invest (preorder) without knowing full detail:/
Greed?

[...] Greed?

Humans tend to use only two emotions in their dealings with money: fear and greed...

They want to save money while making maximum profit.

Yeah but they're business won't last on that model, unless the people pre-ordering from them are infinitely stupid.

Surely the better business bureau wouldn't mind messing with a small company who's owner has been previously convicted for fraud to the tune of millions, the same company which apparently raised 25 million in pre-order money yet continually extends it's own deadline and to date has shown no product, not even a development stage mock-up(that isn't 3d).

They're a government agency I bet they have nothing better to do.
