Same here.

Code:
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Might be a DDoS attempt, or theymos messing with back-end stuff. Happened on my end today as well

Since SMF is probably using a mysql backend, chances are that it's just a low parameter setting in my.cnf. My guess would be max connections.

Some forums handle much bigger crowds, and this one usually works really well.

Theymos would probably announce possible issues before "messing with back-end stuff"?
Most admins would not want a single user to have unnecessary trouble connecting to the site. A DDoS attempt sounds pretty likely.

Theymos is pretty discreet about messing with stuff, and only answers if questioned publicly

going back and forth it will reload the page almost instantly, better than the 502 gateway crap, but if it was a ddos theymos would have enlightened us i think...

for those who think it's DDOS attack , I don't think so because when it's the case (or there is a lot of requests) we get the 502 gateway error instead of this one .

DDoS attacks come in many 'flavors', i.e types , intensity etc. Anyway all of the posts here are just speculation, only theymos can clear why the error is happening

I also get these SMF error messages quite often today. It's probably a less severe DDOS attack, but still very annoying.

Hopefully everything will go back to normal once maintenance is finished and hopefully theymos will explain to us what's going on :)

I dunno if it's why I told theymos but it probably is...
I'll explain once i get permission from theymos himself.

EDIT: the message has been removed!

News: The forum is going down for an hour of maintenance starting 30 minutes after the hour.

Only thing I can understand is forum down for 1 hour, but the starting 30 minutes after the hour part is confusing

Actually it went quicker than expected, only 10 minutes.

I think that the previous problem should be much less common now.

I think that it meant that the forum would be down for one hour after the half of the current hour. Since we don't all have the same timezone this explains everything. Anyway, I have to admit that it was not very clear for me too at the beggining.

Problems with the disks again?

Well, a clearer wording would have been time + timezone.

I haven't noticed a single problem today, thanks for the fix.  :)
