Title: [2016-02-18]Gavin Andresen Agrees, Mike Hearn’s Bitcoin Exit ‘a Whiny Ragequit’
Post by: secone on February 19, 2016, 12:03:24 AM
Bitcoin Developer Mike Hearn’s departure from the project last month created many stories in the mainstream press about how the end of Bitcoin may be near, but pretty much everyone left in the Bitcoin community has disagreed with Hearn’s overall position. The former Google employee, who is perhaps best known for his work on Bitcoinj and Bitcoin XT, claimed that the centralization of development power in Bitcoin Core, the centralization of bitcoin mining in China, and a myriad of other issues led him to come to the conclusion that Bitcoin is a failed experiment.

Yes, and he kept silent at the time and left the people supporting this theory in the hands of the wolves. < Press & shills> He should have stood up then and supported us. As a result of that, some XT supporters did the same and possibly quit Bitcoin too, and this knocked the price down.

We would have seen a price close to $500 now, if it was not for that <Whiny Ragequit>

That's something we will never know and shouldn't think about anymore.
The dump happened, we have recovered and are back on track. That is the good thing we should keep in mind. :)

Where do I remember these names from....? Oh, didn't Hearn and Andresen do a small amount of work on Bitcoin about 2-3 years ago? Wasn't the majority of their work unsuccessful, and mostly not part of the Bitcoin we use today?

Indeed. All this conspiracy theory nonsense leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I've had an issue with Gavin since nearly day one.

I didn't like the fact he was visiting/explaining things to certain three-letter agencies. They have their own staff, if they can't understand a straightforward white paper, what good is Gavin being there going to do? It just smells of influence and compliance, even if nothing happened.

I also didn't like how Gavin comported himself during the XT debacle. He was giving interviews and emphasizing how "Bitcoin is in serious trouble" to different outlets, and that overblown quote got a lot of eyeballs. Its almost like he forgets that being a contributor means he has to have some tact. It wasn't there.

Now, he's saying Hearn was a rage-quitter, how convenient. Would've been nice to see him pick a side before the fact - but honestly all I'm seeing here is someone with zero spine bending in the blowing wind. His behavior reminds me of a mealy-mouth politician, and its alarming.

A lot too late if you ask me.... He has done more damage by dividing this community than Mike Hearn in my opinion. At least we know on what side

Mike Hearn is playing on... with Gavin you never know. He is a master at playing the songs, people like to listen too. He thought he had a lot of support

with the XT submission... Noooot and then he played the next song and got some more hits.... He is just playing the crowd..  ::)

While Mr Hearn does appear to be a bit of a silly sausage and a drama queen to boot, I do agree with a fair bit of what he wrote. That seems to be unfashionable in this thread but there you go.

You think that a management putsch disguised as technical salvation was a good idea? Or you just didn't notice that it was a management putsch disguised as technical salvation?

You certainly can believe what you wish, its just that Hearn had a knack of taking the completely wrong path to getting where he wanted to go. Perhaps he'll stand as a warning to others, demonstrating that bullying and using FUD tactics to promote an agenda is a recipe for failure. Also, just because someone can program doesn't mean they're some kind of oracle - they're just a fucking nerd that can program. :)

I'm not saying he isn't a twat, he quite clearly is and tried to use alarmist techniques to get his bratty way, but some of those points do have some merit to my tiny mind at least. How they were delivered completely neuters them though.

Was bad delivery the problem with Mike and Gavin's various "keeping your money safe" coin tainting schemes? Because you were going to get those appalling ideas too, (if you're so interested in backing Hearn's alleged good ideas). You think that's wise? Do you own bitcoin?
