Title: HELP? I am trying to decide on...
Post by: jmintuck1912 on February 26, 2016, 04:41:20 AM
Should I upgrade to Classic or stay with Core? I can't decide what to do. I am scared to get on the worng version. What is the good version?

If core serves your purposes, I suggest you stick with it. There is no good or bad version.

if you are not sure and have not been following things lately, i suggest you stick to what you already have (which is core) and wait until (and if) bitcoin classic becomes the official stable client to use.

How many developers are working behind the scene on Core compared to Classic? If you find that answer, you will know what route to follow. I have seen a detailed road map and simple explanations on the way forward for Core and very little information on Classic.

You have to make up your own mind, but I would much rather back a stable team, who are consistent and goal driven, than someone who jumps from one implementation to the next. < Insert Gavin here >

It may be that 2Mb blocks will be needed in the future, but right now Bitcoin needs a number of other changes to cope with increased usage and longer confirmation times. Core is addressing these changes in a controlled and planned fashion. A simple immediate increase in the blocksize could result in longer waits for confirmations and higher transaction fees imho. We need more blocks created more frequently, not bigger blocks.

The future is with core - vote core and keep Bitcoin healthy.

classic is doa, everybody is in agreement to remain with core, also core offer not only segwit, but 2mb too, this mean that there is no reason to go with any other altcoin...

in order to decide which one is good you need to read hundreds of opposing topics, replies and posts to figure out which one is better. and in the end you might not even be able to decide.

but in order to decide to switch to which version, it is easy. since it is too soon to switch and bitcoin classic does not have enough support behind itself, you should remain with core until you see any significant change in how things are shaping out to be like.

I suggest you stay with core. It is the best option for you right now.

With all the new stuff available in Core 0.12.0 I wonder why you'd even consider Classic an "upgrade"?

Core is the better option, with segwit they introduced some fixes & LN should fix the others too.

I will stick with Core. Classic is just another bad experiment (like jBitcoin XT) so i dont think it will go far. Core have almost whole community supporting it and problems with block size will be solved in next months so in my opinion, core is safe bet.

Right now they both are compatible, but if Classic becomes the dominant client then you'll need to switch (unless Core also makes a change to 2MB blocks). If Classic reaches the goal of 75% of blocks flagged as Classic, a 28 day grace period will activate allowing all uncompatible wallets/nodes to upgrade before 2MB blocks are active.

Classic actually released a very detailed (and well thought out in my opinion) roadmap. Maybe you just haven't seen it?

If you are not having any issue stay with core and do not switch to classic.
You can make a switch to classic any time later when you have got enough comments and feedback about the classic.

Bitcoin Core roadmap is here (https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-core/capacity-increases-faq). Bitcoin Classic roadmap is here (https://github.com/bitcoinclassic/documentation/blob/master/roadmap/roadmap2016.md). Inform yourself and choose what you think it suits best for Bitcoin.

This is an excellent answer.  Read both sides ---> choose for yourself

If you can't decide this by yourself, you're not ready for this. Just stay with Core then, you won't regret it tho.

Yep, that's just a very good point. If you are still undecided on this, this only means you are still not cut for it. Stick with what you know, you can never go wrong with that.

I really like ice cream. I only have $5 and want to buy some but I don't know which one to buy. I don't want to get the wrong one for fear another one is better. What's the unbiased consensus on the best flavor.

Yeah, that question is going to get the "right" answer.

i think it is easy to decide, at least for me it is easy.

classic does not have the mining support behind it (yet) so why switch to something that feels like it has the same fate as bitcoin xt

You did not say what you chose, based on the answers and advice given here. I see Classic as the short term {Band-Aid} approach to a much bigger problem addressed by Core. The variety on offer

with everything that are coming in the future, like LN and SegWit will bring much more value to Bitcoin, than the quick fix suggested with Classic. The Gavinistas will obviously differ with me, but that

is my opinion, based on my observation and research done on the topic.  ;)

Get Electrum - the best choice.

run classic to show your willingness to have 2MB blocks.
in the end it won't matter
it's not like your coins are in danger whichever version you choose to run.

i think i would stay with core, classic isnt too mainstream and possibly it wont be like that for a while thus i wouldnt choose classic, at least not right now

I am thinking to stay for now with core, thanks to the higher votes in here leaning toward Core. I guess I will stick with Core for now.

If you are still undecided better stay with the classic. As you wait, please read and research regarding the advantages and disadvantages on both so that you are informed of your choices. Also, wait until any issues were fix if ever there or until it is stable.

I think if you like what Classic has to offer (2MB blocks and their roadmap) that you should switch now, because miners will be less likely to support Classic if they don't see Classic nodes that will accept the blocks that they mine.  My point is that in order for more miners to support Classic, they will need users (nodes) showing their support.

Im sticking with core for the here and now anyway.   Is all these spinoff's really good for BTC anyway?

i have heard that most of users and developer have agreed to stay with core. I don't run any nodes on my own so i don't have any fear about these version thing. ;D

if i were you, i would stay with core for the time being. because you might be forced to switch back in the future. even if bitcoin classic is good or has support, it is not yet have the full support of the miners, the blocks mined with classic is too low for any significant change to happen.

What does everybody think about trading BTC in for Ether until a consensus is reached and the scaling issue is resolved. Would that be a bad idea? What are the chances that it would be a profitable venture?  Once the project hashes out its differences, then it would be easy to trade the Ether in for bitcoin again.  Does that sound reasonable, or am I out of line here?

Yes if you are unsure, staying with core is the best. but you can get more information about the both here in this forum.
This will help you understand better if switch to classic is favorable.

Why don't you just run both on 2 separate computers or this may cause issues in the long term?
