Title: Just a great video I stumbled upon and had to rewatch

Just wanted to share this video I dig up during research for my latest project. I think many burning Bitcoin zealots should rewatch this video from time to time to get a good idea of the world outside the Bitcoin universe and see from a more distant point of view.

i agree with mostly everything he says
and mostly i think that, that is where bitcoin is moving toward (example the bitcoin tipping bot on reddit)
but be need to see more of these things, simpler e-wallets, and crazy cool phone apps.
we still have a long way to go.

I remember listening to the talk a year ago, and listened to it again today and my opinion of it has not changed.
If were were only making in person transactions and everyone had a credit card, then it is true Bitcoin can very little to offer. The in person payment space is very crowded and there are many old and new alternatives.

The trouble with this video is that he completely dismisses the very market where Bitcoin excels right at the start namely buying over the Internet internationally and by the way it makes no difference if the buyer is using the latest smartphone or some ancient PC. If the buyer does not have a credit / debit card or the seller does not have a merchant account (or equivalent say PayPal) then until Bitcoin came along  there was no cost effective way to do business. The reality is that this is a huge market which the for the most part has been completely ignored. I gave the video a fail back then and give it a fail today for completely ignoring this huge market.

I agree he dismisses that, but he makes a good point about SNS integration.

Yes this video is a good reminder that "raw" bitcoin cannot compete in the convenience market. We need services and layers on top of bitoin.

also good point: (22min) what we need is privacy, not anonymity

At the end of the day however, I don't think payment convenience matters much for the success of bitcoin. It's the downfall of the paper based currencies which will ultimately be responsible for bitcoins success. Thus bitcoin is not competing with convenience, but with trust and economic freedom. This is important in a multilateral political environment.
