Title: Best physical wallet?
Post by: SEnergy on March 01, 2016, 09:18:23 AM
I'm interested in finally getting myself some nice physical wallet, but I did not do much of a research and basically know only about 2 wallets that might suit my needs - trezor & ledger (nano/hw1)

what experience do you have with those? I personally would prefer ledger but I want to hear some pros and cons from someone who had any of those...

Thanks!

You can investigate several Hardware Wallets here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=899253.0).

The most known ones are Trezor, Ledger and Keepkey I would say.
I prefer Trezor as it is having the best cost-benefit ratio.

Both Trezor and Ledger are cool. They should serve their purpose well.

However, in the electronic world, everything gets outdate very quickly. Therefore, for me, the best physical wallet is still the paper wallet, but of course it is not as cool as Trezor and Ledger but it serves the purpose just right. The best thing is, if you prepare it correctly, you can "read" the data by yourself and do not need to go through a software...

i think both of ledger and trezor are the best wallet, infact by price ledger more cheap than trezor, kindly you should check their reviews on coindesk

I have been using Ledger Wallet for 3 months now and it's been an amazing experience.

Their system is pretty safe and combines practical usability with it. Never had any issues so far.

I have been using ledger hw1 for over a year now, i don't find cons in it (it's the cheapest hardware wallet available). however if you want something fancy like led screen then you should go for trezor. :)

Physical wallet.. hm. I have only used paper wallets and they work perfectly fine and they cost much less from the rest of them and are pretty secure if you know how to make them in safe environment.

Saw an ad about coolwallet on twitter the other day, it looks pretty cool, though I haven't used it so can't really say how secure or not it is.

Paper wallet is the best to me- cheap, good and easy to obtain!

However, I think Trezor is the one I will get when I get my first 1 (or 2) bitcoin.

Trezor does have a reputation to keep which may trump the paper wallet,

Paper wallet and a safe place is the cheapest option. However I'm thinking on buying a Ledger (it looks pretty small and comfortable).

on this site, they said the best Best physical wallet is Trezor,i'm agree with that. https://bitmate.net/best-bitcoin-wallet/
and on this site, https://www.weusecoins.com/en/find-the-best-bitcoin-wallet/ they put Ledger on first posistion, above Trezor,so i think Trezor and Ledger is same good.

You will also have to carry a security card with you using Nano or Unplugged with your phone. The only hardware wallets you can buy right now that work directly with a phone (no security card for authorization) are Trezor (have to use an OTG cable) and BitLox (Bluetooth). Trezor is Android only while BitLox works for either Android or iPhone.

The most well known hardware wallet is the trezor, but I like the ledger wallet because it is cheaper and does the same things.

Recently i have learned that i can run the safe environment OS from ledger and put on my own USB instead of buying directly from Ledger for 5.50€, this will save you money including extra shipping fee. I like ledger because of low budget but if i had more money i would try trezor.

I have the block chain app. I find it very convenient and extremely useful on the go.

Ledger is cheaper but does not have all the features of Trezor. You do get what you pay for. I have a nice desktop collection of hardware wallets but do not even use my Ledger anymore. Nowadays it is either the Trezor or the BitLox.

For someone on a budget who cannot afford a Trezor but can manage $20 a Ledger HW.1 would be a decent choice. Just plan to use it with your laptop with the Ledger app on your phone to confirm transactions. Using the current gen of Ledger products directly on Android is a pain because of the security card.

How about those physical Bitcoin coins ? Anyone use that or are they just a collectible.

Trezor is one of the best, but pretty expensive compared to similar alternatives.

Bitcoin "physical coins" are wallets, they have a public key and a private key (secured under an hologram sticker), you can use them to store your bitcoins, but are mostly for collectionist because if you want to redeem your bitcoins you will need to peel the hologram and the coin will loose the collectionist value. I used before low btc value "physical coins" to make gifts to friends that have interest about bitcoins.

Paper wallet seems to be the best for physical coin, but trezor wallet can be considered for software compatibility.

My friend has a ledger wallet and he says that it is really good. I would definitely recommend it for anyone that doesn't want to spend too much money on a hardware wallet.

I just reviewed some physical bitcoin wallets and found that trezer is the most secured and trusted physical bitcoin wallet, but it is pretty expensive campare to others.. If i were in your place then I will definitely go with trazer no metter it is little bit expenseive to others.

Trezor is by far the most popular and reputed one but IMO wasting money on these physical wallets wouldn't be of any use but just to show off and if I am storing huge amounts then i would just go with a clean hard drive or USB wallet.

I think Trezor is best for now.
But if you ask a security issue, both have a good security.

Why using a hardware wallet there are always some stupid hackers who wants to steal your
(money).
i would recommended you to take a physical wallet such easier and more save!

Not sure why, but a physical electronic wallet like trezor just doesn't sit right with me.  Would rather stick with a good old paper wallet.

Currently using a paper wallet for cold storage & the mycelium android app for transactions (QR codes make it so easy)

Personally prefer paper wallets over the hardware type although I have only ever heard good things about Trezor, yet comes at a premium.

Trezor is the best and most secure in my opinion but its hard to beat a paper wallet since the cost is next to nothing vs more money that could be used to buy more bitcoin. A hardware wallet i suppose is slightly more convenient for spending as well since you dont need to empty the whole thing anytime you want some btc.

the KK has a rotating cypher. nice. the price has improved. now $99.

Physical wallets are prone to being lost, wiped, damaged.

I prefer to just memorize the private key.

You seem to be a smart guy if you can memorize your private keys. I stick with a trezor for my big wallets and online solutions like blockchain for coins i want to spend.
Coinbase is also quite good btw.

Paper wallets are good for locking in a safe, and a Trezor is best for taking with you.

To spend securely with a Trezor, you only need remember your PIN, and carry a USB cable to connect with your Android phone. (The Trezor firmware keeps someone from brute-forcing your PIN).

To spend securely with a paper wallet, you first have to make sure your phone or computer is secure, then scan the wallet, transfer its value to your online wallet, spend, then, if the change is significant, transfer it to a new paper wallet.

I use paper wallets in my safe for long-term storage, and a Trezor to replenish the wallet on my phone when it gets low. I keep about the same amount in my phone wallet that I keep in fiat in my leather wallet.

No way this guy remembers his private keys, he must be insane with combinations (or have a photographic memory) if he is able to remember them with 100% accuracy.

I have coinbase as a payment wallet, and I use a paper wallet (With admittedly not very much on it) for a storage and safe wallet.

I'm not sure physical wallet can give you convenience. my advice you should use online wallet. Why ? because you can use it anywhere anytime. different from the physical wallet that its use is limited.
