It's a rough Sunday for BTC-e. The shady bitcoin exchange affectionately referred to as "BTC Putin" by traders has a rare issue of towntime now. Although it has a reputation as being associated with the mafia it has been one of the most reliable, never having any real hacking outside an old inside job issue in 2012 involving a compromised LibertyReserve key.

What is happening now though is not a hack. There's no evidence of any coins leaving the known BTC-e wallets. However, there are clearly some technical issues, and when people can't withdraw funds it's not the best thing for customers.

BTC-e finally announced on around Noon Sunday UTC, March 13 that they have problems to attend to, maintenance they say:

BTCe has been knocked out many times before, flatlined charts at Bitcoinwisdom, it is just lasting longer than usually, to my observation.

i personally don't trust a lot btc-e fortunately i don't have any funds on it right now, i sincerely find this exchange too shady, anyone know who's working on this site?

This kind of FUD brings no good to crypto community. Wait and see everything ll get sorted out.

yes,some exchange left us start from some issue that happening on their system,but i hope btc-e not one of scam exchange,i hope the system get well soon.

DDOS at Poloniex.  Someone with too much free time and nothing better to do.  Or a competitor.

Stop trusting these assholes and hold them accountable when shit like this happens.

Another update on their twitter in Russian languages which i translated to English reads as
"Technical Maintenance is almost over. Thank you for your understanding"
Though, that thing was written 4H ago and the site is still on maintenance, i don't know how long the exact time when they said  "Almost Over"

It's back up again.

Its the oldest exchange since mtgox went and which rarely goes down (ok not this time) and usually is instant on withdraws and deposits.  I think its good if you are looking to trade smaller amounts, i used it back since 2013 infact!  It is a worry we dont know who they are yes.  Bitfinex needs to add a trollbox as its way too fun!

Honestly what it looks like to me is btc-e is experimenting with the consequences of an exit scam. There is absolutely nothing to hold them accountable for their decisions with the site, and I honestly don't know why an exit scam wouldn't take place at some point.

That, or they are actually are making a run for it...
