Title: ad-hoc cash-dispensing network app with GPS
Post by: mughat on February 04, 2013, 01:32:45 PM
Just saw this article:

How about making this for bitcoin?
People could set their own fee and get ratings and stuff.

Cool idea. You could have a field to input the radius (example: 5 miles in a city) around you to accept requests or make an offer to sell. People could also offer to sell over the application. Having it constantly running and searching would drain your phone's battery so you would have to have an option to scan in time increments (example: every 5 minutes, every 10 minutes, every 15 minutes). And of course a rating system would be nice, maybe even comment/review box as well.

Really cool idea, I would like to see something like this take off in cities. You could even make the app free but charge something like 0.005 BTC per transaction.  :)

Apple snaffles $5 as a service fee, while the person who provided the cash nets $3.

Wow a 16% transaction fee.  I guess if you're in a real bind, still I don't see many people using this.

Such ridiculously obvious ideas are patentable?

That is crazy.

Related (from another thread):

Looking forward to the LocalBitcoins mobile app.

A few months ago was a StartupBus competition, and one of the contestants was Open Wallet app:

Here's their proof of concept video:

I have no idea what they were going to use to settle payment to the party acting as "ATM".  I wouldn't doubt they had no good solution ... and left it as "and magic happens here", after figuring out that PayPal wouldn't work for this.

If that was the hurdle these entrepreneurs couldn't solve, then had they considered using bitcoin as the settlement currency they might have been able to get funding, develop it and launch.

Well, ... will LocalBitcoins take it further?

Just need an app to let you know if they have a gun and are going to mug you for the cash.

So they have a patent on money changing? I thought Jesus had prior art.

Apple is the new Al Gore.  They invented everything.
