People used to talk about "losing sleep thinking about BTC all the time", and it wasn't just about money.
We wanted to set people free.

In 2010/2011 Bitcoin was really exciting!
Are you excited now about the Bitcoin project/economy?
Why or why not?

people are still excited about bitcoin, at least those of us who understand what bitcoin is meant to be like are excited about it.
besides in 2010-2011 it was more about the price and seeing bitcoin (as a new technology) grow and worth as much as 1 USD and then go up to a thousand times worth more than 1 USD, that was the most exciting part.

In 2010-11 the entire crypto currency market was booming and thriving. Lot of new people joined this world and started earning and trading crypto currencies at that time. If you check litecoin and darkcoin prices at that time, they were also higher than the current time.

But over a period of time, the bitcoin price has stabilized. Also a lot of other crypto currencies are hindering the growth of bitcoin because people have started investing in altcoins. If those investments came to bitcoin, it would have been huge.

I'm still excited! But yeah the tone is different these days.

i'm not yet get involved into this cryptocurrencies world when at 2011,really regret about it, i just know when at that year bitcoin's price rising up till $1200,i just imagine if i were buying those coin when the price still as low as 1$ so i'll probably become a millionaire,i wonder how many ppl have joined this cryptocurrency world when at 2011

Those days, really miss the time were there was a hype of mining with GPU's and we used to post our modified computers that we used for mining (it was a lot more fun than mining now, as a whole). Aside from these it was on it's first few years and few only knew and when there was some group meetings, it was very exciting, specially when there was a speaker at events. In regards to being excited, it never went away and until now, every single day, I have that excitement like the first day, I get to know how cool BTCitcoin is. There's more hype now compared to around 2011 and more attention is given to it, specially from medias around the world.

Old is Gold always.
In 2020, some Legendary members will start some topics similar to "2016 was real exciting".

If you see your wealth get value appreciated, you find it exciting. Else getting bored and thinking about old fine days.

Yeah right, because darkcoin was around in 2010-11... You probably mean the 2013 hype not the period in 2010-11.

The biggest reason that people are less excited is a stable period in the pricing of bitcoin. Stable = boring = less interest. The fact that we are stable around 400 for so long now is a good indicator though that we build a good solid floor there.

As far as being excited, I certainly am. Not only for bitcoin, but also all the cool projects it has inspired such as lisk and other 2.0 cryptos. They will have a spot besides bitcoin and fill the gaps that bitcoin has trouble with.

LOL. When your present life is boring, you will automatically will praise the older days as good. Older days in particularly interesting days. Yes, you are right, Old seems Gold when present is dry.

Back in 2014 the hype was about alts, I know there are legitimate projects revolving around crypto 2.0 still around nowadays but honestly, I'm all blockchain now. Way past the crypto 2.0 fever.

@ontopic boring doesn't necessarily means bad does it? The way I notice it, people look at BTCBTCBTC nowadays like a high yield high risk investment, not the freedom it was supposed to be.

so what did you expect? it is like the first time a mobile phone was introduced!

something came out of nowhere and took the world by surprise, a new P2P money that you could use on your own with security and also mine suing your GPU at home and get paid. then on top of all that the price went from practically 0 to $1000 in late 2013

p.s. the exciting years was through 2013 not 2010

in 2010/2011 Bitcoin was hardly known except by a small group of cryptographers, nerds and libertarians.
Bitcoin become exciting for many more people when it started to bubble!
After that the first companies were built and an economy started to grow and evolve which brought even more people into this space.
And I believe this excitement is still going on.
I'm really curious about the coming implementations and how future layers like LN for instance will and can help Bitcoin to get even more attention.

When you find something new that interest you,it always makes you exciting.The excitement worn out with time.It is natural I think people who have just find out bitcoin will be experiencing the same excitement now

Yeah bitcoin should be not just about how much price can be reached, more likely to revolution of economy world. But recently most people think bitcoin just for investments that would earn you money.
Today and the next days should be more excited, bitcoin could change the way people use money.

bitcoin now has more users and more spread than 2010/2011 , I didn't know bitcoin from long time , but I can say that I am very excited with bitcoin now.

bitcoin in 2011 is really phenomenal, the price is very very high, but it is harder to mine and then at that time the adaptation of bitcoin is still very new, you cant find any store that accept bitcoin, and very few people recognize bitcoin

so eventhough bitcoin was very exciting in 2011 but the usage and implementation is better in 2016

i dont know about it,i know bitcoin not on that year,and i never dream and predict abut bitcoin on that year. but now i also relize that bitcoin is all about money,trade it,hold it,its for money,and i wondering how "bitcoin life" on 2010/2011,can you share your story when you meet bitcoin on that year?

correct me if i am wrong but wasn't the bitcoin price high on 2013?

I only wish I was around in 2010/11 buddy. I am excited about the future, I'm a long term HODLER, I would like to see some kind of surge in adoption or price though. It seems to have all gone a bit stale :(

What changed these days? The essence is still the same... The only difference is, more people come because money. But they soon realize what's this all about. People learn about Bitcoin and start looking around differently and see that they were blindfolded all their life and their financial freedom was nothing but an illusion. People see that banks were pretty much getting ready for the long con...

We still want to set people free. Free from financial restrains and free from scams.

I am still as excited about Bitcoin as I was around 3/4 years ago when I first heard about Bitcoin.

my excitement was definetly highest up until 2013.. but now its started to wain.

even though i have loads of bitcoin, im not even worried or care about the short term spikes or drops. i se the long term future of bitcoin and so the short term price drama means nothing to me anymore.

instead my emotions are more concerned with the whole corporate control of blockstream and classic.
i wish that there was no control and instead EVERY bitcoin user had all the featres and excess capacity buffer so that every implementation can work together seamlessly without contention and without being so close to the edge that it needs radicals to move people in one direction or another.

EG bitcoin was making 500k blocks in 2013 and no one was crying about capacity risks of 1mb because they all know 1mb was just a buffer for potential future growth. the same mindset should exist today. 2mb+segwit should allow both real capacity potential due to a buffer higher than demand. and also allowing the features to be used by choice rather than force.

The first time I did not expect. but after I studied bitcoin little by little I finally understood that bitcoin is very interesting. until the day of bitcoin has changed my life. my life for the better. I am happy and I am happy to have known bitcoin.

in 2010/2011 i'm wasn't know bitcoin so i can't feel how exciting it because my first experience on bitcoin came from 2015 early and that was exciting too because since i had know that bitcoin does really help me from my financial sides

I'm still very excited!

But I notice many that have lost much of the love for Bitcoin, which can translate into a great buying opportunity.
Usually its when people start to give up that the bulls enter the stage.

And when they do, the excitment will be back, mark my words!

I see a lot of answers revolving about what Bitcoin should have been or could have been.
Personally, I never wanted Bitcoin to be anything else but Bitcoin.

Bitcoin in itself is new technology plus an interesting political experiment with unknown outcome. Exciting enough? 8)

I think there is still plenty of excitement around bitcoin and all of the possibilities.  I like bitcoin for much more than money.  It can have great social impacts on a global scale.

If people have lost faith, that's their loss.

More reasons to be excited in 2016 then ever before. Bitcoin has come to stay.

I think it's still very exciting and it only gets more and more exciting. The blocksize thing, all the new technologies like segwit and all the new BIPs, all the big hype about halving... the future is very exciting. The only thing I miss from the past is not buying BTC before 2012, but we have still time for bigger moons in next years.

Yes thats year for bitcoin was exciting, because bitcoin was new online currency, and people feel excitement to use it. just like me. but now in that time mostly people know about bitcoins, and the coming years thats call the bitcoins year.

I was excited because I was mining on my GPu's and it was fun and
affordable.

i dont know what happen on bitcoin on 2010 or 2011,at that years i dont know about bitcoin,even dreaming about bitcoin i never do that,but now i know bitcoin have good project,lets wait and see what the best project from bitcoin.

The recent price stability of Bitcoin is really remarkable. This stability helps to open new opportunities as a currency.

In 2010 most BTC users used to think about it as something, that can change the future. It was completely new idea these days, that had been brought to life. With market value close to zero there was nothing more.
Nowadays, people are also excited, but IMO rather in terms of possible personal financial benefits.

In 2010/2011 Bitcoin may be exciting but not as much as it is exciting now.
At the present bitcoin is at its bloom and moving towards its peak  :)

Bitcoin is really exciting, i cant wait until i can either be paid in bitcoin or transfer my fiat wages to bitcoin and can then use them to pay my bills.

I came to know about bitcoin in middle of 2015 so for me 2015 was most exciting year.I know prices were high earlier and people went crazy for bitcoin but since I haven't witnessed that myself I can't say what was the feelings at that time but for me bitcoin is still exciting

The present time is really exciting too. In 10 years, people will look back and say the same about people that is aware of Bitcoin 2016. "Omg it must have been great to buy bitcoin at 3 figures while it was being developed". We are all still early adopters.

At that time I still don't know about bitcoin, I knew it around 2015.
I think the exitement is still happen untill now. People are more aware with bitcoin.

I will be more excited if/when certain BTC-related events come to pass, for example:

-- more merchants accepting BTC
-- easier & private ways of buying and selling BTC   <--- Someone will crack this one sometime, and make a fortune.
-- price going up again...
-- more interesting BTC and blockchain uses (applications) arriving

I think the excitement about Bitcoin came, when in 2013 it breached the $200 price for the first time and then again in 2014 when it went above $1000. People flocked to Bitcoin in droves and we had a real buzz going on in this forum. People were happy and fun projects were started and competitions launched and also some nice puzzles.

Since then, a lot of this excitement has died down and I get the feeling a lot of people are waiting for the price to increase to those levels again for them to sell out. If you entered the Bitcoin scene in 2014, when the price were above $1000, this ride must be pretty terrifying and boring. ^hmmmmm^ 

I´m and will be excited ever with Bitcoin.Changed my vision of money.Thanks Bitcoin. ;)

Similar my case.In fact,its other way around for me.When it started back in the day,I never thought is going this far.I started learning about in for first few months ,purchased a couple coins and forgot about it.Its was only when the ending of 2013 I read an article about bitcoins in a magazine give me chills that its going way far and beyond that I had imaged a year back.

in december 2011, i guess all bitcoin is frustrated after get bubble in July 2011 the price touch $31   but in december 2011 the price down to $2.

It is not that bitcoin is not exiting anymore. It is still fresh, new technology with unknown future - and that is pretty exiting to me.
We have to remember that things of the past seems usually better and brighter than they really were - that is how our memory works.

I'm not, because it's still very much in the same position it was in years ago.

If people were exited in 2010, then they have even more reason to be exited in 2016

6 whole years have passed and Bitcoin is still dominating conversation when it comes to the disruption of this archaic financial system that has literally turned "money" into debt.

6 years ago, if you were to mention anything Bitcoin related to anyone in the financial sector, you would have been ostracized and made the butt of everyone else's jokes. 6 years later Bitcoin is finally being taken seriously. Bank, after Bank has publicly expressed their concern that bitcoin may one day by the catalyst of the extinction of the current financial system.

Senators have come out and delivered hours of speech about bitcoin. George Osborne, Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer publicly gave Bitcoin his vote of confidence by creating a £10m cryptocurrency research initiative in 2015

So i think bitcoin is far more exiting today than it ever was in 2010, because today in 2016 Bitcoin is not looked at as some co-op science project.. it's being looked at as the solution to the current issues that have been caused by the world's central banks

yes of course it was but at that time we were not aware of it. i think in 2020 people will say that in 2016 bitcoin was really exciting. so i suggest that we should get binifit from the present condition.

It was really exciting right before and after the rise to $1000/BTC, totally different 'vibe' in the community, but that might just be me who thinks that :)
I have the feeling that it's going to gain momentum again, especially if the price keeps rising like it does now.

We could see more of these cycles around each reward halving.

I have to admit that i am  excited just like the people from the 2010/11 . I mean its amazing to think that such a coin exists! making our life way more easier (in my opinion of course).My friends look at me with a weird look whenever i try to talk to them about it!Everything is fine tho until they hear all those "complicated" things. Indeed it is in the beginning but when you get used to it everything is easy.
