Post by: Bitcoin Marketing on April 06, 2016, 12:22:19 AM
Can it be that eBay and Alibaba are deleting posts of sellers accepting payment in Bitcoin and other crypto's ?

If that is the case, I will try my best not to use it. Alibaba is not good for the adoption of bitcoins.

Yes actually both ebay and alibaba are not quite fond about crypto tech and bitcoin. But i think they will see its potential in future.

I have seen quite a few ads of sellers of ebay, classified as scam, I tried 2-3 times to buy bitcoin there and they send me a message the seller is a scam although his/her feedback is more than 40 and is 100% positive, so I don't really know, but they are not very pro regarding bitcoin from what I see. That have happened 2-3 months ago, don't know yet as I haven't tried again.

I don't know much about alibaba but I know for sure that eBay is not a bitcoin friendly company because of PayPal

Maybe when the paypal is separated from the Ebay in the near future, you can pay bitcoin in Ebay.

There are a few reasons why this might be the case. Both eBay and Alibaba have a reputation to hold. By allowing listings that ask for payment offsite using unverified payment sources, it is difficult for the buyer to prove that he paid if the seller makes a no payment claim. The same is true reversed.
Additionally, both sites have some form of guarantee and buyer and seller protection (Alipay, PayPal etc). When the transactions are carried out using BTC it is hard for them to offer any of this protection as they have no access to the funds. (They normally act as an Escrow and have the ability to reverse payments which can't be find when using BTC). Therefore I guess that it is likely that they'd remove posts that accept BTC direct.

I know eBay do allow BTClistings, but that is only if the listings are marked as a classified ad.

On Alibaba, it is compulsory for the sellers as well as for buyers that they must provide their all the details and verified payment information so as to keep the purchases secured and to give safety to the buyers and sellers.

alibaba used to be full of scammers and it was mostly asian scam artists. So once sellers stop doing fraud, alibaba may add bitcoin as a payment option. as for ebay im not quite sure and the inventor of bitcoin is chinese so satoshi might get some luck with alibaba

neither will accept bitcoin unless they can figure out a way to get theirs. Meaning if you buy something what is to stop you from contacting the seller directly and buying the item without actually using the ebay sale. Ebay wont get their % of the sale and paypal wont take their %.

hell i actually did this recently. bought something from a vendor, i liked the product and wanted to get a few more. we came to a price to be paid by BTC and i sent him the btc and he sent me the product. Not only was i able to buy with btc but i was able to buy it cheaper because the seller wasnt going to lose 6-10% in fees.

i always add in the line at the bottom of my posts that i accept btc. havent had them taken down yet. seen a few others do it as well that they list btc as a payment acceptance type.

If you go through the transaction through Ebay, you have seller protection. You can also have buyer protection.

Dunno about alibaba but Ebay certainly will remove listings if they spot them, I guess it's the same for alibaba. It causes them nothing but problems and doesn't make them money. I'd be removing them too.
