Title: Taking Advantage of Poloniex exchange
Post by: Borgminer on April 07, 2016, 09:59:27 AM
Now this is an exchange the offers you to lend your coin on an exchange platform for trading . Rates are pretty low interest.  Nothing is a guarantee so I will give it a 90 percent success chance.

1. Transfer Btc or any other coin thats on the Lending portion .

2. set lending to every 2 days only(auto renew) . rate at .05  percent a day .   simple interest would be 1.5 percent a month .

3. Every 2 days login back to you account . and the profits will be added to your account with the other coins sent back out to be lent .

4. lend your profits out at same rate :)

Isn't there a risk of loan defaulters? If you only get .05%/day, a single defaulter might kill months of profit???
Just curious, i haven't checked the system myself (yet)

the coins dont leave the exchange .

This might be profitable since the coin don't leave the exchange but what happens if the price of the coin drops?

Are you talking about this
https://poloniex.com/lending#BTC

Currently, I can see only 2 loan demands (with 1 of them at a negligible 0.3 BTC).
On the other hand, there are a lot of loan offerings, totaling to 4620 BTC.
Seems to be a massive imbalance.

The default margin fee is set well above the low loan offers, at 2% iirc..

The loan demands that you see are people trying to margin trade on the cheap, they are semi-rare..

99.999% of all loans taken are at market, as in they just take whatever is on the loan offer side as the default is set higher than that. Their loans also auto-renew at market and come right off the offer side. You can pretty much just ignore the demands side..

If you put your BTC on the bottom of the loan offer side it will usually be filled within a minute, almost instantly.

I use it all the time.. ALL the time..

There are even tricks you can do with your orders to earn a few extra satoshis that you wouldn't otherwise..

I was also thinking this is already dead or not profitable because supply outweighed the demand but eddie13 reply might make me to give try.
Can you share the trick you are talking about?

Mkay.. This is how it works...

Loans don't always stick in for the full period (min 2 day). Often they pop in and out from people doing quick trades and the polo bot that does the loanin business..

Every time a loan pops out it has to give you atleast 1 satoshi, then sometimes it skipps a few to account for the 15% fee I believe..

So what you want is as many of the smallest loans you can give so you have more chances for them popping in and out..

The min loan is .001btc and if you have more than 1 loan of the same % such as 0.0750% and they are out at the same time they will add together and that is no good..

What ya wanna do is put in a F tun of min loan orders all on different %s... Like this..

.001 @ .0750
.001 @ .0749
.001 @ .0748
.001 @ .0747
.001 @ .0746

But like 200+ of em..

And when the site is really busy during peak trading hours you can get them popping in and out so fast, and a bunch of them at the same time that you make a bunch of extra satoshis!!

It will make your loan earnings history look like this..

Notice how there are blocks of similar loans popping every 10-20 secondts!! Extra satoshis!!

Another thing you can do is sometimes the bot that does the loanins splits your min orders down even further and a piece of it will pop back into open loan offers.. What you do then is leave theauto renew on on the piece that popped out and take it off of what is in loan so the larger section goes back to your balance and the tiny fraction stays loaning, it will still pop and give you satoshis just like an .001 loan but will work even if it is 1 sat!

Like this...
BTC   -   Lending Earning   0.0874%   0.00000001   15%   0.00000001 BTC   2016-04-03 19:05:23

BTC   -   Lending Earning   0.0874%   0.00000001   15%   0.00000001 BTC   2016-04-03 00:09:51

See you are loaning only 1 satoshi and getting paid 1 sat every time it pops in and out.. 100% profit!!

I have 2,173 pages of loan earnings from doing that!!!

the coins dont leave the exchange .

it is not just about coins not leaving the exchanger. when you lend bitcoin on exchanger you are lending it to someone else so they can trade with it so if they lose money, it is possible that you get screwed because they can leave and never log in that account again.

there are better active platforms for lending bitcoin

There's no guarantee in this and I see you play with very very small amounts. In a loan there is always the risk of defaulting, so I will suggest to keep away from these practices, one single default in big amount can screw you for good. Bottom line, very risky method in my view.

Loan defaults are unheard of.. It does not happen..

If they make a bad trade they will face a margin call and a forced liquidation of their position.

I have made tens of thousands of loans on Polo and have never had a default once, not ever.. It just doesn't happen..

If they leave and never log out for one your loan term max is whatever you set it for, 2 days min, and their position will automatically renew with a new loan off the loan offers side at market..

If they just hold a margin position indefinitely it will eventually margin call based on fees (that work by time) or if the price falls..

No matter what the trader does you will get your BTC back when your loan term expires or sooner..

Out of all the thousands of loans I have made there I have never once not got my BTC back and never once not got my interest on the loan..

But what is the monthly return from doing this?

It depends on hat the % fees are trading at at the time but I'd say that averages at about .125% per day X30=3.75% per month..

Any additional earnings on top of that from the loaning method I have had make up to 60k sat per day extra with .5 BTC. But that is just extra on top of the %..

OK thanks, that's quite good. I set up a bunch of 0.001 loans, but so far only one has "popped" within the hour - I guess this is not a high trading period! Thanks for sharing an interesting strategy.

That is not an insignificant risk, as members of the Bitcoin community would acknowledge.
The majority of people's coins would be in cold storage, and not lying at an exchange.

0.02% of a loan in 2 days is really low and i think you can make X1000 the profit you will make if you trade your self because the risk your are taking when you loan is higher than you trade yourself maybe the borrower will lose money and then you can say goodbye to your money.

also the loans are based off of margin trading so the people borrowing for margin trading loans have to have coins in the system

Well, Polo used to be really good but recently the rates are going down big time. Probably not worth the risk anymore.

It's a supply and demand thing - the supply of loans has increased and the rates have fallen. I guess they'll go up if there is a frenzy of alt trading dependent on margin trading (another giant pump ether style for example).

It also shows there s nothing else more interesting to play with but to simply loan your coins. Calm before the storm or general crypto decline?

Why would you risk your money. Lending your money to some unknown people for a little bit of interesting.
While taking the risk that the loan will be defaulted and you lose on it?

Yeah. Since it is so easy to default on your loan because you don't know your lender it makes no sense to even start lending in the first place.
Even if the coins stay on poloniex you could end up losing your money.

In the example in the OP, the interest rate is 0.05% per day, and the current market interest rate is roughly that amount.

When a loan is repaid in say an hour, but the term of the loan was 2 days, does the lender receive the entire amount of interest from the borrower? I know that bitfinex will lock in the interest rate for the entire term but will calculate the interest paid by the hour (the interest rates on bitfinex are also much lower as well).

Past performance does not guarantee future performance.
Before Mt Gox happened, people thought their bitcoins were safe because it was the largest exchange around.

Yes, the risk is polo goxing, not loan defaults..

The interest seems to recalculate a few times per minute via the GUI but it does things behind the scenes faster than the GUI refreshes..

Like you can have a loan pop in and out more than once betwen GUI refreshes and you can see that it happened in trade history and analysis but you only see what is current every time the GUI refreshes, which I think is about ever 20 seconds or so..

Go to https://www.poloniex.com/lending#BTC and pull the scroll bar down a bit on the loan offers and wait, every time the GUI refreshes it resets the scroll back to the top too..

Possibly - I noticed that rates really declined over the weekend. That might be because less trading is being done on the weekend, which meant funds that would normally be lent, weren't,  leading to a collapse in rates.

I don't think you can get rich from lending - but it's a nice way to earn a tiny something while you wait for the price you want on trades. Otherwise the coins are just sitting there, and you feel tempted to trade even if the price isn't right.

Just to give an update on this: BTC rates seem to rise when there is a pump on and lots of people who are margin trading borrow BTC to go long.

For other alts, when the price rises, the rates go up as the margin traders short. So rather than leave everything on auto, check what is happening, because you can sometimes get very good rates if you time it right. (Managed to get 0.08% on doge when it was pumping a few days ago).
