Hello all,
I just had an update to the Android version of the Jaxx wallet.  Lost all my coins!  The default wallet address has been changed.  I download the Windows wallet and used 'restore' with the mnemonic for the Android wallet.  Guess what a new wallet address and no coins either. 

In other words, don't bother using this wallet!  They do not have their act together!

Sounds pretty hefty. A real unacceptable error in management of development of such app. Can't believe they tested it before. Well, they will sweat blood now I guess. :D

Thats the reason you shouldnt trust any low quality 3rd party application as well as dont install any worthless altcoin wallets.

How much did you lose? I hope it wasn't too much. This is just another example not to use an untrusted wallet. Breadwallet and mycelium is there for phones already.

But something still puzzles me... Why did you restore the wallet? And why didn't you made a Backup before the update? I guess you did something wrong and not the other way around...

Most Android apps perform auto-update.

Pretty sure the Jax wallet doesn't auto update the keyfiles. Something is fishy here.

I've been using Jaxx wallet since the first time I've run into any problems.

Are you sure of yours? Please ask for help from Jaxx before the final judgment is reached.

Another user had similar problems with jaxx wallet a while ago. The fix in the quote restored his coins. It involves installing mycelium's wallet on your phone and importing your jaxx wallet's seed into it.

This is the exact reason to download a desktop wallet and store them there.
Bitcoin Core is the one to use and nothing else.
Online wallets are for exchanges only.
Jaxxx has to many to choose from evena  browser wallet which I can see it being a disaster and to have your coins stolen quite easily. As I assume this is what has happened to your coins you claim the program has done in losing them.

They are actually well advertised by a lot of services and even Dash. How are people supposed to safely store coins if they have tons of altcoins? Jaxx isn't a web wallet. They let you control your private key. What do you consider a 3rd party application?

The real issue is that Jaxx is full of critical bugs that may end up making you lose your coins. But don't generalize all altcoins wallet because of jaxx's devs. Coinomi works very well and I never saw any issue while I was storing some coins for a while like DGB and Doge.


That's not the real problem with their wallet. Their security is pretty bad and you can easily get hacked or lose your coins due to a bug.

Hmm first time I read a bad review about JAXX. But this just goes to show you gotta keep your own backups/seed/private keys. Whatever happens to any wallet, you can always import private keys and you're good.

That is why official wallet of altcoin will be still a good choice to use unlike other wallet like jax anytime our coins will gone..
I heard many times issue about jax walelt and only newbie can say that jaxx wallet is good but the fact its not a good wallet anymore.. for safety use the official wallet if you are holding ethereum better to use official ethereum wallet instead ..

There was a news article about jaxx wallet users having their paraphrase used to access their wallet can be easily comprised.
I lost the article but when I find it I will post it for all to look at and be aware that it could happen to them as well.
If not taken care of with setting 2FA security on your wallet and this sort of thing or you can have your wallet comprised and the coins in there stolen as well.

Is this the article you are referring to? I have no intentions of using the Jaxx wallet unless that problem gets fixed. Too many people have lot coins already.

What do you mean by lost? Do you mean they were stolen by someone using the exploit I referred to earlier? If are they still in the same Jaxx address you sent them to then a technical problem might be stopping you accessing them. Some users found they couldn't see their coins in the Jaxx wallet but managed to retrieve them using various technical workarounds.

Does a block explorer still show you coins in the your Jaxx wallet address?

Jaxx sucks a lot. The older desktop versions were as slow as hell, my wallet froze constantly when I tried to scynch it, the newer version is a little bit better but still takes ages to sync.

You would expect to sync instantly like Myetherwallet, not sit and wait there 5 minutes. It's just a horrible experience for me.

The browser extension is nothing better, I had a hard time figuring out how to use it.

My experience with it was awful.

mhhh can not say ive got bad experience till now, sync is fast and software (desktop) works how it should be.
the only thing is at the moment, they need till now more than 11 days to claim bch in the wallet and no end in sight. just waiting to get my btc splitted and there are just meager or no news on supportchannel. (https://www.reddit.com/r/jaxx/) also lot of people are waiting.

My experince with Jaxx was not always in a satisfactory manner, e.g. sometimes my balances didn't show correctly. But mostly I just had to wait a while, and next time everything looked fine again.

That means: The backdoor is intentional - maybe for selling the service.

Important:

The headline / thread title / subject is misleading. You are not only in danger while using the wallet. Your mnemonic can be stolen without having the wallet running, you only have to be connected to a network.

I have been playing with the desktop version of Jaxx for a couple of days. Very insecure..

Anyone with access to your computer can open it and see all your funds. The only thing protecting cleaning all the funds out is a 4-number pin, it seems like the pin can be bypassed, if not a 4 pin pass code is not that hard to crack.

I would not trust more then play money in Jaxx.

On the other hand - if your machine is being hacked, then game is over for more than your wallet. Of course everyone wants to keep their funds safe, so don't catch any spyware and just don't leave your device unattended.

few wallets are more cheap in the market like that wallets do not buy and keep your coins. it can be hacked by few people so don't buy like that wallets. in the Google you have to search one best and good wallet next you have to buy it can keep your coins secure otherwise don't believe to any low class wallets.

It may be possible that JAXX changed the standard derivation path for their wallet.
This would mean your keys still hold your bitcoins. You could try to import your seed into a different wallet (e.g. electrum)
and chose the most common derivation paths. That may lead to a "restore" of your right addresses and your funds.

Are you sure you downloaded the official version? And you did not have any other malware on your device?
JAXX has some known security flaws. But i'm not sure if JAXX stole your funds or some malware made use of those security holes.
Did you already scan your device for any kind of malware? In future i would advise to use mycelium on androids and electrum/core on desktop pc's.

I have had my coins stolen on Jaxx Wallet Last november 14th, after several attempts to withdraw my bitcoin.

On the 14th of november, I tried to send 0.1125982 BTC to another wallet of mine, but the transaction was never confirmed and instead of returning the full amount to my wallet,  I realized that two other transactions were made (NOT BY ME): one in the amount of 0.03649 and other in the amount of 0.0812808.

The first amount 0.03649 came back to the wallet but the second originated two other transactions: one in the amount of 0.00133863 BTC and other in the amount 0.04554556 and the amounts never came back to my wallet, despite of being present in the HISTORY of the wallet and the transactions I made are not in the HISTORY anymore.

I contacted Jaxx Support but they didn't respond any of the questions posted, neither gave me an answer to the stolen coins.

I have everything photographed and I am thinking of suing for money damages.

Anybody know what may have happened?

the same here, I used desktop windows JAXX version for ETC and now I am unable to send ETC anywhere. After entering correct PIN there is this: Transaction failed. Tried to update to the latest jaxx, but still can not transfer my ETCs. What a piece of sh*t this wallet.  :-[

Try resetting your wallet's cache on Menu --> Settings --> Reset Jaxx cache.

I tried it several 10times and almost everytime I got Transaction Failed. But every 10-15 try, there was no status about transaction (OK or not OK). I finally got almost all of my ETC out of this "wallet" - about 200 tries to send with several Jaxx cache resets. It was possible to send a piece of my budged after every reset, but not all of my ETCs.  :-\
I can forget this software after flushing almost all coins out.  :)

JAXX wallet is so screwed up! Transactions don't show (when they actually manage to go through) and the wallet is not secure.  Even if you use the pin it's nothing more than a pseudo-secure hash that can be hacked in a few seconds, even when the wallet is not open.

I've lost several hundreds of dollars value in transactions.  What I believe happened is that I also installed JAXX on my Android phone, and because I use a wifi connection at home when not on the network, it became the back door to my wallet. I shapeshifted about $500 worth of eth which took 4 days to simply be returned to me, and a few minutes later was shifted OUT to an unknown address.

They do not use a legit encryption for protection.  Use it at your own risk, expect the worst, you'll be rewarded with just that.  A months worth of mining down the tubes.

Do yourselves a favor and use Exodus, myethwallet, and electrum.  Don't use this POS wallet. At this point I wouldn't doubt the makers of this thing are scamming people.  It has simply become too wonky to be legit.

Does Jaxx wallet require Ethereum in order to make transaction with other altcoins? I am attempting to send 1st (firstblood coin) out of the wallet and it keeps failing.

I'm adding a warning to users who use this wallet as someone I know has sent coins through this wallet to have one transaction send coins while the other transaction sends coins to an address they do not control which are then promptly spent and taken.
That or Jaxx doesn't know how to read change addresses on outputs and loses the coins which honestly looking at the code and reviews makes sense ... so ya Do not use.

For some reason using wifi I get transaction failed all the time, but with mobile net it works like a charm...

No issues whatsoever, syncs quickly, only they need to add other ERC20 tokens Quickly to gain more USERS and also another layer of security like 2fa..!!! AGAIN TO GAIN MORE USERS..!!

ATM lookin gor transfers from 2 days... then I realize I have a dozen of adresses for Doge that are out of my control, they just change. Must recover some... good is that there are private keys, so there is a chance.

BTW: Has anybody found a way to restore the old adresses (that keep getting switched) - in Jaxx or other app?

I'll add my warning to the mix.

Thankfully I haven't lost any coins, but spent a while wondering why my ETH wouldn't send ('transaction failed'). Watched videos on youtube, no solutions worked, so had to end up exporting private keys to My Ether Wallet, which is not a good way of doing things.

My ETH balance is also wrong - I've emptied all of the addresses, and it still lists 4 ETH that don't exist, despite  deleting cash & restoring.

Basically, have a play, but don't trust this wallet with any large amounts.

If it can't even send ETH or display correct balances, it should probably be avoided!

Shame, as it seems like it has potential.

Core is very, very secure.

You can run it with a startup option set so it does not require a huge database.

I recommend it highly.

Maybe this will help someone:

after some mails to Jaxx their advice was to go to Settings and reset Jaxx cache. So I did and beside some 55 Dogecoin there were also another 160 from previous transfers that I didn't miss until then.

So reset to find out the real crypto assets that you own on multiple Jaxx accounts.
