Title: Building a rig - Are these parts sufficient? Post by: lolwhatisthis on June 10, 2011, 06:22:52 AM So I've decided to try building a dedicated mining rig and I scrounged around my house for parts I can use already.
I found these parts: Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 1.86ghz Asus P5Q SE PLUS mobo 500gb HD 2gb Gskill ram The only thing I need is a GPU, I think I might buy a Radeon 5850 or 5830 depending on what I can get my hands on. Will these cards work with what I currently have? Does anyone have any other suggestions for my rig? Thanks. Title: Re: Building a rig - Are these parts sufficient? Post by: Maxxx on June 10, 2011, 06:39:48 AM Looks like that mobo has one PCIe x16 2.0 and two x1's. So you can get PCIe extenders for the x1 slots and two additional graphics cards if you wanted.
If you went with three 5850's and GNU/Linux you should be looking at, at least 1050 Mhash/s. Title: Re: Building a rig - Are these parts sufficient? Unless you want the XFX versions (which run quite a bit hotter) you're out of luck, as all of the Sapphire cards are out of stock everywhere.

This late in the game I would suggest a 5770. You could go for a 6950, but fall is creeping up and the new 7000 series should be arriving, so I would't spring the full price for a card that may be out of date in 3 months. |
