Look a bit worse than some S1's i've cleaned recently. I'm guessing you ran them somewhere pretty dusty. This even look like... grimy ash or something.

Doesn't seem that unusual... You should look at your desktop pc after it ran 8 hours a day for 4.5 years ;) (one of my first jobs was in the support department of a DVR company... you cannot believe how dirty those servers were. At that time, some people even smoked in serverrooms... Cleaning that sh*t was disgusting)

Did you ever hit blocks with this one?

Well my 450D case rig has been running 24 hours for almost 2 years, not much dust despite it being in an non-airconditioned room, although the dust filters are pretty scary, I clean them once every quaterly.

the problem with high pressure air cleaning is that they spin the fans so fast while cleaning that its almost guaranteed that the fans will die.

You can hold fan where it does not spin :), easy to do.  Also could even take off on S5's in a few minutes and really go to town with air.   Normally when I go to clean my rigs I use high pressure air due to I can make as much as I want, and it does not get cold and have to stop like canned air.  Not to mention if you are going through quite a few machines I would rather have 1 air compressor vs a box of canned air.

But yea... you should NEVER let it get that bad I'm surprised you did not have it getting really hot with that amount of dust. That has to be one of worst I have seen.

Thanks notlist3d for being nice to this guy  ;)

talwinder, you are a moron for letting your gear get that bad  ::)

I bet you buy a new PC every few years from Dell/HP  :D

I wonder what inside your house looks like  :o

No problem I try to help with being nice I figure me being mean to someone really does not help them learn.   It honestly scared me seeing all that dust I hope OP got it cleaned out we never did get a report back.

I personally use a air compressor with miners that have mined long term to clean.   Lately it seems some have tried different things on fan's to try to prevent dust which I find interesting.  I still have not put any filters up as I'm scared to hurt airflow.  Monitoring and cleaning is kinda a part of life when you run miners long term.  But I have never had one reach near this level I am happy to say.

I've built gaming rigs for the past 16 years now (I ship them all over the US) & I ALWAYS recommend an air compressor instead of canned air, like you said, just hold the fans as you blow around & thru them  ;D
Oh & watch for condensation being blown on your motherboard & stuff.Just sit the PC in the sun for 3 hrs or let it sit overnight to evaporate the water BEFORE you plug it in & turn it on.

I run into customers PCs that are almost as bad,the worst was a gal who used incense,it had caked up on all the fans, heatsink's,PSU.Musta been about 4 years worth  ::)

I was able to blow it all out & used a toothbrush & little screwdrivers as picks. It amazingly started up & is still working about 3 years now  :D

I cleaned out a computer once that had been run by a chain smoker. There was so much tobacco gunk caked inside that it looked like the case has been filled with Grape Nuts cereal. You couldn't pay me enough to scrub that out with a toothbrush.

How often you clean your miner?

Panty hose over the input fan, bamzo, no dust issues like this.

That doesn't decrease the cooling at all? Seems like it would lower the amount of air being pushed through.

It does a bit, my S3's ran for over a year no issues. One has to clean the panty hose weekly or it will have to much dust.
