Hey !

guys, i have GTX970 and i want to buy an AMD card to add on my PC
would i be able to mine ethereum with my GTX970 & R7 370 ?
i heard that it works somehow
i just want to know if someone have done it
bcuz i dont want to waste my money on a card that i will never be able to use

Its possible and its a pain and why buy a R7 370 right now? And if the rig is not for gaming, you could consider it but i wouldnt mix AMD/NVidia in rigs.

My ETH miner supports mixed rigs since version 1.1.2. It works at least for 1+1 setups, haven't tested more complex mixes.

There's only one GOOD reason for mixing AMD and NVidia in a single rig.

 There are other "niche" reasons sometimes to do so, but if you know about one of those niches you don't need the hand-holding.

the R7 370 is cheap + low power + 15mh/s = good deal eh ?

and can i mine with 1 GPU and use the 2nd one for playing games? is that possible ?

The 400 serie come out this month, so... And 370 4gb is not so cheap with that in mind. I mine and game at same time but considering i have stability issues with just AMD, NVIDIA + AMD would probably be worse.

yea I'll waitfor the 400, do u game on 1gpu and mine on the other one? or u do booth on 1 gpu? just wondering if it's possible, if so that's awesome

If I were you I'd wait for the RX 480, it looks really promising at a low cost and I think a lot of miners will get it. You shouldn't have any problems with mixing AMD and nVidia cards.

The problem is not with ethereum mining where you can chose from few gr8 miners, but in future if you plan to mine others coins mixed setup will be a problem
so far AMD had better support and speed, we gona see if that gona change, most ppl wait for 480, which I think will use a lot less power but will not be better then 390x in terms of speed

IME trying to mine and play games on the same machine leads to lots of laggyness, many crashes, and other issues.

 Mining programs on windows tend to NOT be "well behaved" and hog all resources they CAN grab.

 Mixing AMD and Nvidia right now is not generally a good idea - the drivers don't tend to play well together, though it CAN be done.

i'm also mining and gaming at the same time, but not with heavy game, only those that are light enough to be played when you mine etheruem, and use the ram that is not used for etheruem

no crash so far, everythign is pretty stable even at 55% tdp

nice, i dont want to play heavy games too,  but do u know how i can game on 1 GPU and Mine on the other one ? i have extra gtx 560 that iam not using, and it runs CSGO 100+fps for me and thats what i basically play all the time

true, but i dont want to game and play on the same gpu, i have an extra gpu gtx560, can i use one to mine and other one to play games on ?

you just need to set device usage, something like -d 0,1,2, remove 0 and your first gpu will be free to use for gaming

with etehruem i remember it was without the ",", so only -d 0 1 2

I have a computer with a VGA AMD, but I do not know the type of vga her, just writing amd. but if it can make a lot of coins in a short time, I wanted to learn it, it's because I am still a beginner in this case  :)

get it used, 970 are sold for 200 euro now, and will be less when the 1070 will be released

Pricing on the mid-to-high range NVidia cards are starting to drop - should drop more once the GTX 1070 is released, though if that card has the same limited availability that the 1080 has shown so far, the existing 9xx series cards might hold value longer than I'd prefer....

yea but there will be risk that the card was heavily used( probably gonna cause short life time)
maybe even dead broken fans problems
and I live in iraq so i use package forwarding website to ship stuff to where I live, mean refund and re shipping gonna be hard

they are still protected by warranty from producer for two years, i would try it, on ebay at least if you can find

or even here on the market, i bought mine for 230-240, 200 still nothing for now

I was a huge AMD miner back when litecoin was in the 700 difficulty.  I dropped out once asic miners moved into scrypt coins and the bitcoin dropped below 500.  I fought and fought with my amd rig with 4 7950 cards constantly. Terrible drivers caused issues, resets, stopped mining, hardlocks, etc.  Back in the day when sgminer was bleeding edge crypto was a rough go sometimes.  Since I picked up 2 Nvidia poseidon 980's for gaming, I was curious on how hard it would be to get them mining.  It is night and day between setting up an AMD card vs Nvidia.  If you aren't technically savvy stick with nvidia.  ccminer just works.  Sgminer has its perks on the amd side though, mainly failover pool support.  If you go dual nvidia's though, some coins like neoscrypt don't like sli. As for gaming while mining, I simply shut off one card and I can play overwatch at 1440p with no issues while mining on the other card.

You do not have many cards, so it is easy for you to shut off. For the big farms, they have more things to consider.

I had the same "plug and play" experience but with AMD.  Insert a bunch of 290's on a rig, install 15.12 driver, and double click claymore. done.
