I think the only advice i can give you is: do your research.
First, search this forum for reviews, then google some more for reviews.
Lastly, look at the site itself: is the whois info hidden? Do they have an address, is their business number real, is their phonenumber real? Some countries have some sort of organisation for webshops, it's allways a good thing if the shop is accredited.

The fact remains that even the most trusted webshop might scam you... So allways be carefull.

I realise i'm talking about webshops... In your OP you ask for tips if a "site" is a scam or not because you got scammed by HYIP's. To tell you the truth, i think close to 100% of the HYIP's are scams, or will turn scam after a couple of weeks/months/years. This is why i concentrated on other sites... I think it would always be a good idear to stay away from HYIP's

First of all if you want to use ponzis/HYIP you have to take in to consideration a possibility of scam.
"There is no such thing as free lunch" so be aware that 99.9% of those sites are going to rob you.
Now you should check this site before investing www.badbitcoin.org  (http://www.badbitcoin.org). It should save you some
bucks, dont get greedy m8.

Use some common sense, if it seems like a scam, it probably is a scam. Don't send ANY BitCoin to anyone unless you trust it's service, or the person your sending it to. If you are unsure about a site, or something, feel free to come here and get an opinion on these forums, we'll help you.

my advice, you just stay away from investment sites that are not clear, or stay away from HYIP sites, because everything will end up being a scam. it's better not to invest, this time nothing is really good for investment.

definitely do your research. If anything sounds to good to be
true it probably is.

Use the search box here and search the scam. Chances are someone
has posted about it. Also google it.

do research about the website you want to join in.
But not every info is true.
Some website has good comments, but they scam and run your money.
Some website has bad comments, because some competitors slander them.
So only you can do is do research and make your own decision.
I don't buy HYIP, don't gamble. Just some current deposit and fixed deposit on OXBTC.COM.
I treat it as wallet.

Please be aware that by defaults all HYIP are SCAM (even says so in the name).
Any high return on your investment like 1, 2, 3 % per day or even 10-20-30 % or more monthly etc. is unrealistic and lie.
Experienced users know it very well and they invest in HYIP just money they can afford to loose and cash out their seed money as fast as they can.
After that, that play with rest of money in such HYIP programs.
HYIP are not different than Casino or gambling sites and don't expect that you will find any honest program or admin there.

Like you can doubled your bitcoin only with deposit on this site. Take care of this problem to make your bitcoin is secure from scammer.

Yeah if something feels not right and you think that the person is not acting right then just do not do it. You should only do it when you are 100% comfortable with the situation if not then do not do it.

There is seriously no doubt that you would lose all your money in a HYIP site. A HYIP site by definition is a ponzi scheme, which must collapse sooner or later. Right now they also tend to run away with your money without even trying to prove legitimacy.

Remember that most of the HYIP monitors are rigged as well. They get paid by the HYIP sites to list them.

There's your key word there HYIP, they are truly unpredictable, the only way to know if they are about to  fold or run away with your investment is if you have someone from the inside. Example is the cloudminr.io site, when it is about to collapse there is this guy who all of a sudden started selling his KHS at discounted rate and after a few weeks, cloudmir.io is not accessible anymore.

lessons:
1. if its asking for your funds and promising % profit.. it a scam.
2. if you do a "whois" search and their details are hidden by whois guards or proxy guards... its a scam
3. if you cannot find the real office address or the details they do provide leads to a pobox, drop box, virtual office.. its a scam
4. if you cannot find their "business" registered as a business on any company registers.. its a scam..

overall if you cannot find enough information to locate them to slap them with a wet fish should they scam you.. dont throw them your funds

I think all HYIP sites will turn out to be scam someday, I think HYIP program was chancy. to avoid HYIP scam I think easier, is to not follow any HYIP program. And please keep in mind, just invest your money if that money loss you ready to accept it. Thank you

better stay away from HYIP,

better think a sport betting game to gamble,
more likely to get money back than invest in HYIP  ;)

A lot of people like to gamble on being that person, who came in early and exited at just the right time to have doubled or tripled their investment. If a site give extraordinary interest rates, well above

the industry standard, you will know that you dealing with some sort of Ponzi / HYIP. If they pay you to get other people to invest and join their scheme... you know you dealing with these people. We

have sites, where scams are listed. --> http://www.badbitcoin.org/

If the offer is too good to be true and the site owner can't explain how he can made a lot of profit it's a Ponzi HYIP scheme.

And if you are in doubt about any site, open a new thread to ask here on bitcointalk forum about it or search on Google more informations about the investiment. Rarely you will find a legit and profitable investiment... Stay away from those 0.1%-2% hourly profit sites, this kind of site doesn't survive for much time.

You can always start researching on the service youre into at the service discussion https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=85.0

See what others experiences are before you get into something, or how they handle things.

Or if you dont see anything there, I would always check the scam accusation: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0

I find it hard to believe that ANY investment site is not a scam.
They buy cheap website hosting, put up an address, and hope people send them bitcoin.
Any of the addresses they show that they are sending payments to are probably an address they own, and they move some coins back and forth to show they are making "payments".
What can you do if they don't send you money back? Make a forum post that most people won't ever see.
I wouldn't trust any of these sites.

Actually, HYIP always ended with scam. So, my tips is don't invest if the HYIP already launch long time ago, invest on HYIP that still fresh/newly open and don't invest big on hyip.

Honestly it all comes down to common sense in most cases.  Does something guarentee a insane return? Or sound to good to be true.  If so chances are it is to good to be true.  Sadly there are things like HYIP and most cloud mining sites that sound great.... but will cause a loss in bitcoins you own in the end.

But just ask yourself if someone could be making X amount with what ever they are peddling... why would they need my money or want share profit with me?  In most cases it is that they are a scam.

They are all scams but if you must use them , get in quickly and leave a week or two afterwards. The way they get you is you first invest and it works then u don't again with more and it works then again and it works then one day it doesn't work and u refieve nothing. They wait till u make a big deposits.

Easy, don't invest in anything, just save your Bitcoins and enjoy the ride to the moon  :) It doesn't matter how diligent you are with your research before investing, there's always a chance you'll get scammed anyway. No company is too big or too respectable to scam. Of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't invest at all, you just have to be comfortable with taking risks.

Ways of detecting scam sites:
1. no evidence of how profits are made (e.g images of data centres)
2. no evidence of the CEOs identity (this may be done intentionally so may be unknown)
3. check the trustworthiness of the company (some likeHashnest may be more trusted than ones like hashflare.io)
4. If you have suspicions of these contact support to get more information
5. If you have more suspicions and on't think it is legit, search the information on google to determine its validity and do NOT continue!
6. Fixed profits are also something to be avoided as no one can gaentee an income.

I have been reading a lot of these comments and the best advise I feel the need to give is this:

IF IT SEEMS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE - - - IT IS!!!

If they are offering more than 2% per month on an investment return, then chances are that it will not be real or it will crash very quickly.

If i were you i will get rid investing on investment sites like the HYIPs out there because all of them are just have a ponzi scheme where end the you will just get scammed again. If you ask me i will invest in a site that didn't hide their identity like real personal informations, real address of company and also existing company.

why do you want to know that? the only thing that you should know about HYIPs is that they are scams and when they start you can never know "when" they are going to run, it can be right after you deposit or it can be a couple of days.

But make sure that before you go and trade, please do some good diligence and do your homework first otherwise, you will end up with nothing. Trading is a double-edged sword, it can do harm and good for you - just learn how to use it and you are good to go.

Just follow this principle: If it is too good to be true, it must not be true
