Title: Question about transaction fees in wallets
Post by: Woshib on June 12, 2016, 12:37:54 PM
I want to ask a question about transaction fees.
Why in online wallets like Xapo, there are no fees when sending a payment, while in the downloadable wallets, you pay fees?

There is always transaction fees but for Xapo case ... they are paying the fees for their users. It's probably just a way to attract more users.

What you should know about down loadable wallets is that they are safe and they don't ask you identity papers like XAPO does. XAPO is also an online wallet which means you rely on third party website in order to do your bitcoin transactions, yes they pay the fees for you but at what cost , the cost of your identity and you don't know for how long they will be online, or they maybe hacked etc. While with a desktop wallet all you need is a clean PC when installing, safeguarding your SEED phrase (needed to restore the wallet) in case of PC failure.

XAPO is using that feature to allure as much members as it can to use its wallet. Better pay a bit of a fee and stay anonymous rather than going with XAPO.

most services have access to all your bitcoins stored in their wallet, while desktop wallets lets you control your own bitcoins.
afaik only xapo pay the fees for you. no other services does that. and I can't think of any reason why they do that other than to get more users to use their other paid services.

Some do, some don't; if they do pay the fees usually they sweep the BTC from your wallet to their main wallets to consolidate all the BTC they receive so they pay less in fees on their transactions - they then can send any sized transaction as they have multiple inputs and their software can then pick and choose which inputs to include.

If they pay the fee it's very likely you do not have full control over your BTC, they do.

Thank you for having me explain how this works.
So, they can take our Bitcoins at any time in Xapo?

Yes. And to make it more clear: all wallet services that controls the private keys of their user's deposit addresses can do this.

If they take me my Bitcoin suddenly.
I can file a complaint for a refund?

You can. Whether they will return your bitcoins or not depends on why they took it. If it was just a mistake then they're likely to refund you, if not then they're scamming you.

Afaik there is only xapo and coinbase that offers to pay the transactions fees to its users
For coinbase i think it limits it to 25 transactions per day then you have to pay (not sure read it somewhere many weeks ago)

You have no other?

I've never seen this Directbet wallet.
They have limits of transactions per day or is it unlimited?

Our local wallet exchange (https://coins.ph) has that services too. And it's a trusted exchange here in our country.

Most of it's unique services can only be used in our country but for sending and receiving bitcoins it can be used worldwide obviously.

Xapo Maybe they have own miner for transaction fee thats why we don't need to pay for every transaction.. this is just like coinbase there's no fee also for every transaction they are free to use and i think this isthe way of promoting their site or coinbase don;t need it because they have already exchange for bitcoin to usd..

Xapo pays the fees for you, but they may use your data for marketing/promotional reasons. There is no free meal.

I think this service is similar to Coinbase, but I understand that there is a fee for fixed Coinbase but the fee charged to them and not to us. So I think it is similar to that performed by xapo. Thank you
