Title: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy
Post by: sidehack on June 13, 2016, 02:55:31 AM
I spent the last couple days writing some new PIC firmware for my S7LN (delivered Wednesday 8th) and have been testing it. Right now my machine is running 2.03TH and pulling about 415W off 120V, putting it at an efficiency of right around 0.205J/GH for the machine. With the fans at 30% my board temps are 45 and 47 in a 75F ambient and it's not upsetting my TV watching though the outlet of the miner is only about 8 feet away. I can probably make it more efficient with more testing, and I bet it gets quieter.

I'm working on testing other voltage setpoints and will be putting up some efficiency curves and making the code available to anyone who wants to wrangle his own hardware. It'll require a PIC ISP programming device and accompanying software. There's a discussion thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1504228) over in the Hardware forum proper about this.

So I mentioned maybe doing a group buy to bring in some S7 or S7LN, and I'd flash 'em to the desired setpoint, test 'em for about a day and ship them within the US. I already have three people interested to the tune of 5 machines. I'm thinking of gathering coin for set of about 5 at a time plus shipping to my facility, plus about 0.05BTC to do the work and testing. It'd be nice if I could get a shipping label for them as well, but we can work that out. Any import duties would also have to be worked out, which is why I was thinking of keeping orders limited to 5 units.

The current plan is to send $420 worth of BTC to address 1CoLDs7XNi8ehyFnGWicUhgBGb7Kw42Ugi, and PM me with a message signed by the sending address and I also need your mailing address. If you would rather use PayPal or some other payment method, let me know. Machines will be set to 620mV cold operation (630mV if 620 is not stable) and 450MHz for around 420W at 2TH, unless otherwise specified.

-------ORDER QUEUE------

Round 1:

2 - navigatrix shipped
2 - IITravel01 shipped
1 - CrazyGuy shipped
1 - fullzero shipped

Round 2:

1 - ZedZedNova testing
1 - zyzzyva testing
1 - achtung082 testing
1 - -EOS- testing

going to phil:
1 - HaggsFIN testing
1 - philipma1957 testing
1 - gt_addict testing

Of course, it may be just as easy for someone to just buy one and have it shipped to my shop. I'd still need a shipping label so I could send it on once it was worked up.

Would overvolting be possible?

Title: Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy

Yes, if you were into that sort of thing. Stock on the S7LN is about 670mV, but I can take it as far as 770 if you want your miner to burst into flames.

Also my S7LN is currently testing at 1.9TH 365W which puts it ever so slightly below 0.2J/GH, at 47C 20% fans.

I haven't done any extended tests, but I did determine that the hardware is capable and I have the required data to hit voltages above stock. The full range on the regulator is from about 580mV to 770mV chip-level.

Title: Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy
Post by: sidehack on June 13, 2016, 11:47:17 PM
As of right now, I can get an S7LN shipped to my shop for about 0.51BTC

If I ask 0.59BTC all-in for an S7LN clocked at 620mV cold and 450MHz, for 2TH off about 415W, with fans preset to 20% expecting board temps about 50C and very quiet operation, tested for a full day for stability and the price includes shipping from me within the US, who is in?

If that sounds agreeable, send 0.59BTC to 1CoLDs7XNi8ehyFnGWicUhgBGb7Kw42Ugi and a message signed with that address to me in PM. I'll also need your shipping address. When we get up to about 6 units paid I'll place an order and get 'em sent.

Anyone want to help me figure out how to sign a message?  Maybe I'm dumb, but I've spent an hour trying to figure this out on my blockchain wallet and can't.  I've read this:  https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/18qy88/bitcoin_message_signing_and_verification/ without figuring it out.
I've found this:  https://support.blockchain.com/hc/en-us/articles/210353833 which states:

A small window will display allowing you to provide a unique message or signature that identifies you as the owner."

Now I didn't import an address for the transaction, so maybe that's why I'm not getting it?

If there are any newbies to signing a message like me, after over an hour online searching I found that the problem was I have upgraded to the new online BlockChain wallet (and when trying to login to the legacy wallet it jumps to the new sign in only) which is laid out completely different than the legacy wallet (no receive money button, if you click on receive then you get a pop up window..., you have to go to settings and click on address, etc).  Most of the online tutorials are made for the old wallet, so I'm posting this here for anyone else that might need this info.

I've placed the first order with Bitmain for the first 6 units. I used some of the tip money from early on to pick up a seventh machine, so I'll have an extra in case something goes weird. I currently have two more orders paid, another transaction pending and at least one other guy waiting for coins to come in, so there will be a second round in a few days.

I think I'm gonna adjust the price to 0.61BTC on account of coin was very strong yesterday when I bid the order, and now a miner plus shipping is a shade over 0.53 instead of 0.51BTC. If you've already paid, no matter, but if you're placing an order in the next 24 hours the price is 0.61BTC. If coin goes back up to yesterday levels, or the price goes down from Bitmain, I'll adjust again.

...or, at least I would have placed an order, if that transaction would ever confirm. This has been a bad month for me and transactions. I've got a June 1st invoice that's been pushed twice and hasn't confirmed yet, and one of the guys for this GB has a transaction in limbo somewhere. Kinda freakin' me out.

EDIT - order has been resubmitted with a fresh transaction on much higher fees. Hopefully it gets confirmed this time and we can get to business.
I've got my miner decently characterized between 720mV and 660mV and will continue the numbers tomorrow.

What is status on group buy?

coins shot up a lot.  I got so busy with

 the s-9 install

 the avalon 6 sales

the s-7 sale  yesterday and then tearing down my kitchen tthe studs for a makeover   that I never put in for a unit.

So did  sale go through on the resend?

and what would be price with coins  now at 730?

Well apparently the network hates me. I scrapped the original order, put in a new transaction with a full order magnitude higher fee and it's still unconfirmed five hours later. So I guess that order's timed out and cancelled. I'll have to hit it again when I get to the shop in the morning. Maybe I'll step the fee up to about ten bucks this time, that should get someone's attention. If that doesn't work, we'll go freakin' fifty.

I've been out since about 4PM so I haven't checked on prices. Last I saw coin, it was still below where I priced things out initially. Guess it's gone up since then.

I just wish the jackass day traders would save some transaction headroom for people actually wanting to use bitcoins as a means of exchange for goods and services. You know, like a currency.

Also, eff this. I'm going out to the shop and place the order a THIRD time and if I have to hang out there until lunchtime tomorrow I'll get the transaction confirmed. This is retarded. Y'all are waiting for something and you're gonna get it.

EDIT - coin being where it is, as of right now the price is back down to 0.59BTC per unit. We'll see if coin stays high.

I read somewhere on here, maybe the armory section, about getting transactions confirmed, that is helps to leave a hardware wallet open until the first confirmation.  While wallet is running it will continue to broadcast the transaction which sometimes speeds it getting processed and confirmed into the blockchain.  It seems just as bad late at night with everyone converting eth to bitcoin, so daytraders hog it during day and altcoin dumps from across the globe fill the rest.  One would think miners should have a say, too bad we can't point our own miners to specific blocks to speed things up.

I have at least one wallet client open at all times. Additionally, and this is my formal opinion - daytraders and altcoiners can piss off forever.

Well I am not a big day trader fan,but we need a few altcoins.

I am a BTC is the highway and ETH is a taxi or truck on the highway guy.  I think it is a good model.

The Network is slightly improved; down to 10k average unconfirmed transactions from 30k average yesterday.  However, in this case I blame Bitmain for using a blockchain.info wallet, and blockchain.info for having considerable service issues yesterday.  IMO they should be able to properly scale their services as needed; they aren't a new company and there are open source solutions.

Title: Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy
Post by: sidehack on June 16, 2016, 01:49:23 PM
Some of the transactions I sent out yesterday hadn't even shown up on Blockchain.info inside an hour, let alone confirmed. Ridiculous.

Also, looks like I got an order through finally. So Round 1 oughtta be getting here in a couple days.

Do you happen to have a need for that Enermax 1000W which comes with the S7-LN?
I was wondering if it would be possible to buy one without the PSU, since I would have a 500W Super Flower ready for this.
I'm thinking about putting the S1 "to sleep".
Also, how much would it be with shipping to Finland?

Thanks,

-Hagss

If you want sidehack can send 2 to me.

One for you and one for me.

He can send it with the psu I would keep the psu and use it towards  the shipping cost to Finland.

So would would pay normal price  same as me with a small premium over the psu to ship it to Finland.

I could repack it in a lighter box since it won't have the psu.

It is sidehack's group buy, but I don't mind  doing this for you. As I have shipped to you before.

@sidehack let us know if it is a good idea for you.

Best regards phil.

That works for me, if you two want to iron out the details. I was thinking of using the PSU as partial shipping cost, but I don't really need another one. If Phil actually wants it that works out for everyone.

We've reached quorum for the second set, so I'll be placing that order as soon as some coins confirm.

Also, heck with coin going crazy all day. Let's just say $430 at transaction time, which is about $60 over purchase plus shipping. That'll cover everything on my end including reshipping within the US. I'll see about accelerated shipping for folks who have already bought, seeing as how much coin went up between when they paid and when the order finally went through.

EDIT - round 2 is ordered. This time instead of taking 2 days and a resubmitted transaction to confirm, it was like three minutes. Thanks, the network, for doing your job this time.

Now I didn't import an address for the transaction, so maybe that's why I'm not getting it?

Coinbase doesn't even let you do this. I chatted with them and it's not even possible since they mix the transaction before sending it out. Their recommendation was to 'transfer the funds to a wallet you control' first. AAAAaaaargh!

But with a lot of PMs, begging, links to the trx and screen shots, sidehack decided to trust me.

So if you're thinking about this and your spendable btc are in Coinbase, move them to a 'real' wallet

It is possible to sign a message in coinbase, but you have to find the address that was used for the transaction. I did test this a number of months ago and will test again to confirm it still works.

Yep, another good reason to not use an online wallet. For the record I do have a Coinbase wallet, and the 1F address I've taken payments to for general business stuff for the last couple years is a Coinbase address - but all the fun stuff, the 1BURGER and the museum address and the coldS7, have been actual local wallets. Just like a manual transmission, it gives you a lot more control at the cost of a bit more work.

Also, I just got ship notification for the second round, which means both batches of miners are in transit. I'll probably have them all tested and out the middle of next week.

As of right now I've had two other people ask about 'em, so there's probably going to be a third round.

Who knows, there might be an all-software option ironed out by then. I did get a PIC firmware dump from an S9 but I'm not quite up to reverse-engineering a 3600-byte PIC program since I just started learning the instruction set last Friday.

Hope they release a S9LN before winter. The LN versions should be great for home heating especially if you can get the right fan combo to reduce the sound. From the day I got my early batch S7's I wished they were only 2 blades, I just never got round to making smaller/modifying enclosures for them.

Round 1 machines are in and I've worked them up. So far of the twelve boards between six machines, 11 of them look to be stable at 650/620 and one needed to be stepped up to 660/630 to run 450MHz.
They're all cooking now. If I don't see any issues by about this time tomorrow they'll all get shipped out to Round 1 customers.

As of right now I've had two other people ask about 'em, so there's probably going to be a third round.

good.

now we need to do this with the s-9  if possible.  maybe after the ½ ing

we can have a fund raiser to get an s-9 for you to hack at.

I'm all over this one. I'd love to contribute

That's four or five people now with interest again. I'd say it's enough for another round.

What's the BTC cost to get in on the 3rd round?

Current cost is $420 at time of transaction. I'm not going to set a BTC price because every time I do it changes. Honestly I should have done that from the start. I can get one from Bitmain for $373 shipped, plus reshipping within the US and a bit of work and testing. I'm using some of the overhead to buy a spare miner or two in case something doesn't pass muster, which is always possible.

Round one has arrived and are currently running smoothly. Round 2 are in transit, hopefully to arrive tomorrow. I'm okay with a Round 3 if folks want to start chipping in. I'm starting them out at 620mV cold and running 450MHz (2TH, ~420W); any boards which aren't stable at 620 get bumped up to 630mV. Any boards not stable at 630mV get rejected. So far I've had two boards out of 16 not stable at 620mV, and one appears to be stable at 630mV.

If you specifically want a different setting (say, optimized for a specific hashrate or power consumption) let me know and I'll try for it.

All the miners are testing pointed to Eligius on the 1ColdS7 address so anyone can see how they're behaving.

When I get mine I will post a review and show how much improvement can be done with  a titanium psu.

I may also try replacing fans with these.

I changed the price to $420. I got to thinking about it, and the $430 I'd set was for a guy using PayPal. Their fees would end up eating about $20 off that, so adding $10 splits the fees evenly between me and the buyer. Course adding $10 also incentivises buyers to use BTC when possible, which is handy because Bitmain doesn't take PayPal and the coins for the order have to come from somewhere.

Looks like Round 2 units are still sitting in a DHL warehouse in Ohio, where they've been since Saturday night. I've already heard from them and given them updated customs info and expected to see the truck this morning but according to tracking they're still in Ohio. Sorry, batch 2 guys. I'll stick with UPS for shipping. The prices between the two weren't that different, and I wanted to test which had the better service. I've received express packages from China in under 30 hours (even account for time zone differences) via DHL before.

Hey Sidehack, Is this a hardware mod or a firmware mod??

I've already purchased a S7LN & its sitting in my countries customs office but should be delivered later today, I dont wanna have to resend to you & get it back again, So i was wondering if i could tip you for a copy of the modded firmware if possible??

If its a hardware mod, then im outta luck till a firmware mod comes along i suppose...

Let me know please..

I seem to remember somewhere here in this thread you were going to charge 0.05 for the mod, I'm more than happy to do that, U do great work for this community..

Check the thread in the hardware section (hint - link's in my sig), which has instructions, pictures, and downloads. It's modifying firmware on the hashboard itself, not the controller, so you'll need to acquire a PIC programmer to do it. All is explained in the hardware thread.

If you want to cover postage from me to you, knock $20 off the GB price and send me a shipping label. I just didn't want to have to mess with bidding international transport and customs paperwork and using whoever's favorite carrier this week.

I'll cover the postage cost for it. Not quite sure how I'd send a prepaid shipping label to you but I can cover the customs cost this end. What would the price be all inclusive? :)

It's only I'm running three rboxs and two gekkos off a raspi and they are pulling 420w at the wall (365ghs).

A shipping label can be created online and emailed to me.

Current cost is $420 BTC or $430 PayPal (to account for some of the fees they like to add). So if you're sending a label, $400/410

Cheapest I could find was £130 for shipping  :o

But I'm having trouble getting a definitive quote. Have you got a location, zip code no weights and measurements of the package?

I'm sorry for all the hassle, I'd just like one as it fits exactly what I need ;)

Probably cheaper at that point to just track down a PIC programmer and learn how to do it yourself.

once again  I may be able to help.  I am doing one for HagsFinn.

Sidehack is shipping it to me in NJ I am pulling the psu and shipping it powerless to HagsFIN

This would mean you need a psu from your country  GB.

I gave HagsFINN a credit of 70 usd for the psu  and he would pay me about 45 usd since shipping is 115 usd to Finland. I may be able to this for you.

philipma1957, if need it shipped complete if possible (if all the pci-e cables are required) I don't mind paying for the extra weight. That's a damn good price for shipping to Finland.

How would we go about sorting this out? Would I sort it out with you direct and you have another in order with sidehack?

If you want to work it out with Phil, I'll just ship another unit to Phil at regular price (420/430) and you two can iron out the details however you want.

I'll post package dimensions here in a bit, once I start repacking the ones going out today.

Yeah, that's about the only issue with a hot/cold cycle with the cold-running voltage that close to bottom threshold, is you really have to already be mining stably by the time it drops to cold. Cgminer restarting at cold voltage will probably drop out one or both boards so a power cycle is recommended (very likely required) after setting pools.

As of now I have 8 workers all firing. The best seven will be sent out to cover round 2 and gt_addict from round 3. I figure that'll do it and then this'll probably wrap up. Phil, at least one of the miners headed to you will not have an attached PSU on account of I don't have that many I trust and you'd be taking them off anyway. I'll make sure it gets made up to you if I get some warranty replacements out of Bitmain, which I certainly hope to do since part of why I bought one in the first place was to get the PSU for other things but after this buy is taken care of I'm left with only dead ones.

So most of the miners dropped at least one board overnight, which means stepping up the voltage and re-testing. I want a solid day at speed without dropouts before I'll ship, which probably means Monday. I'm not sure why this batch is so much more finicky than the last one; luck of the draw I guess. After initial tuning, none of the last batch failed overnight; this time most of them did.

I just wish the thoroughness didn't come at the cost of time that's already been lost due to customs and delivery hangups. Nothing says "expected delivery June 21st" like packages showing up on June 30th, after something like 3 emails and 5 phone calls to the carrier.

According to the pool, all the testing miners have been running solid all day - that's pretty well 12 hours for most of 'em. Hopefully they stay solid and I don't have to mess with 'em any more and can get 'em all out on Monday. Again, sorry for the delays but I'd rather spend an extra day making sure something's right than have to fight with back-and-forth to fix problems later.

CrazyGuy - glad to hear it.

Oh right, I keep forgetting that most people don't work on major holidays.

Also, some of the already-proven-stable miners dropped a board this morning, I think because the shop cooled off unexpectedly (lots of rain). I remember there being talk about the stock S7 having a "sweet spot" for temperature, below which they weren't stable, so I'm blaming it on that. And then turning the fans down manually.

Thought I would post a followup and let people know the results of the 2 sidehack moded S7-LN's I received and have been messing around with for a week or so.  Looks like from the wattage at the wall that I received 2 660/630 versions.  One does really well after breaking in and runs at 562.5M with only 0.0003% HW errors and the blades run 41-45 C, this one pulls about 545w at the wall on 110v AC, which runs about 2.5 TH/s.  I've switched the Enermax 1000w Gold for a EVGA 1000w Titanium on this one.  Pretty nice.  The other isn't such a hot performer.  I'm getting about 0.026% HW errors at 512.5M (meaning I'm losing about 60 GH/s at that speed, so @2.3 Th/s = 2.24 TH/s), it was getting HW errors at 500M, I didn't try any lower than that so see where it cleans up.  It runs at about the same temps and pulls about 520w at the wall at 110v AC (display shows that's about 460w 12.1v DC after the power supply).  I should have the SilverStone 800w Titanium delivered tomorrow that I'll have put on this 2nd one, which should cut about 10w when installed.  I've switched the fans so they blow the opposite direction and then replaced the Front one with a SilverStone FHP-141 v.2.  The fans run about 2,520 rpm for the OEM at the rear and 1,440 rpm for the SilverStone (I've seen the OEM fan go up to 2,640 rpm when the temp hit 46 so it appears on auto mode it works well with the fan speed increasing as the ambient temp. goes up in the room.  They are pretty close to silent with a slight whurring, but you could easily sleep in the same room with them if you wanted to.  Note that you can put the AntMiner red power switch on the front just above the network port and put the cable through the back and under the power supply for a nice clean look.  Overall, I'm pretty happy as I can put these 2 S7-LN's in the office (with 4 blades total) and take out the S7 with 3 blades and noisy fan that I've down clocked to 612.5M for 4.1 TH/s drawing about 1,200w (don't recall the exact amount).  They will run together at about 4.8 TH/s (a little than a single 3 blade S7 at full) and pull about 1,070w and be a lot closer to silent.  Note, best results I've seen is the let them run for a couple minutes after a soft reboot (I was losing ASICs and getting HW errors) after changing settings and then do a hard power off/on reboot waiting 5 seconds after all fans stop moving.  The HW errors seem to decrease if you do a hard reboot when it's warm and the lost ASIC's come back.  I"m a bit curious what the red flashing light is on the front of the AntMiner near the network port, think it might have to do with the fans (or fan speed), they both flash now (on both miners) after I replaced the fan with the SilverStone on each, but it doesn't seem to effect anything.

Also, I use the EPS power line from the power supply to run the board on top connected to the 6-pin PCI express power cable with one of these adapters.  It's especially handy with the location of the power connector under the power supply if you need to disconnect the power supply for some reason.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005H3KH9E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't think it's a problem.  Both mine do that when cold.  If I let them run for a few minutes and then do a hard reboot, all the ASICs come back.  They do something after the hard reboot where they run for a couple minutes, then it does a automatic softboot even though I don't touch anything and come back with all ASICs and the HW errors reset to 0.  One then starts getting about .029% and one gets 0.0003%.

I kept the psus and I realized you will need a trip switch for the psus that you use.  The evga 850 p2 comes with one so gt_addict you are good to go.

@HagsFinn  make sure to have a trigger wire ready.

When you get them setup  please let us know your power usage. both of your units did around 442 watts stock psu at 120 volts

I am using the stock one in my friends office.

Yep already got a starter button lol.

I'm intrigued to see what she does on 230v with the evga. I will report back as soon as she's plumbed in ;)

Not sure what the fsck is going on, but I have switched off my S7-LN. I'm pretty sure it's not the miner, but rather something going on in the network.  :(

Anyone had an Antminer S3 before and can comment on the noise difference between the two?

Note: it's been about 9 months since I heard an S3 running.

With its fans set to auto; the LN is probably louder than an S3.
However, if you manually set the LN fans to 15% it might be slightly quieter.
As these hackedLN run better hot; you could even swap the fans to make them virtually silent.

I tested one at 20%  it was very quiet.

But an S-3 with  a silverstone 141 is a little better.

I have to say this is a nice hack  and will be even better  with a quality plat psu.

I have not heard an S3,  but I concur with @philipma1957. I had my S7-LN running the fans at 20% and it was very quiet, temps were 48/51 rising to 52/55 after running overnight. I sit at my computer maybe 4 feet away and the fan on the Enermax PSU was louder than the S7-LN fans. The only time the S7-LN fans are loud is when the miner reboots/resets, then quiets right down.

you have 220 voltage correct?

I am curious   to see if your watt usage is 425 or 430 vs the 442 I got with stock psu and 120 volts.

I am using mine as a full time lotto machine

this is a 2.5 cent power setup  so I spend $8.00 usd a month to run it.

Most likely I won't hit a block but you never know.

Yea so I've read the psus are more efficient on the higher voltage supply. My electricity cost is silly but I'm only doing this as a hobby and not in it to make money as such. Obviously don't want to lose much of course but it's still something to do  :D

So a little update. Finished work early and went to the courier depot to pick up the s7. Had to pay customs charges (£47, £14 was just from the courier  ::) ). If I hadn't have picked it up they would've sent a letter saying I need to pay charges and then it would've been another couple of days before it was delivered.

Anyway, I've unplugged my old rboxes and raspi (which will still run the gekkos) and set up the psu on top.i took the bracket off and turned it around so the exhausts are both pointing the same way (couldn't be bothered to take both fans off, plus it works better for the length of cables I have. That's as far as I've got as I've had to babysit the niece and nephew until later. I will post pictures and power figures later once it's set up.

Well I've left her running overnight and the temps haven't changed still 45-46c. Is this within the "hot" range or should I lower the fans a bit and raise the temp?

The only reason I'm asking is that she's pulling 473w @ the wall so about 430w for the unit at 2.02Th.

And I must say she's fooking quiet  :o I mean I had three rboxes in the same location and they were quieter than two S3's and could happily live with those but this is AMAZING. Sounds like the traffic noise outside but alot lower in pitch.

That s-7 has traveled quite a bit China > Missouri > New Jersey > New York > UK

60c is safe so you could drop fans from 20 to 18%

I got 442 watts at the kwatt meter  you are getting 473watts

so if both meters suck for accuracy real watts could be in the middle.

HagssFin's also did 442 on my meter  so lets see what he gets on his in finland. He should have his soon.

@ fin your unit cleared customs in finland

Yea I'm thinking they really suck for accuracy lol. It's reads fairly stable but doesn't matter. I'm just really pleased she's so damn quiet. It's a hard thing to judge when reading comments as everyone's tolerance is different.

So at 60c she will definitely be in the "hot" range for the voltage?

60c is conservative for the board temps.

many  s-7's got into the mid 60's even low 70's and ran fine for more then 8 or 9 months. when they were not down volted

but I rather give 60c since it is conservative.

Yes, that would be hot range.

If you haven't already set the fans to manual, I would recommend setting them to 15%.  This should raise your temps a bit and make your hackedLN even quieter ( I think the PSU fan is louder than the miner fans at 15%).  Also may slightly lower your power consumption.

I've got one on my shelf (ordered an extra) that's probably decent enough to sell. I forget the numbers exactly; it wasn't super so about 450W at 2TH. If someone wants me to work one up, you can always just have it shipped here and I'll make it as stably efficient as possible for a given hashrate and reship for a nominal fee.

I'm going to work on a couple of proper 3-board S7 machines in the next couple days, probably optimized for 600MHz or so and have them for sale - 4TH at between 900 and 1000W is what I'm shooting for if anyone's interested. I might shoot for 550MHz and get 3.7TH around 800W.

Sidehack, Im tempted but just cant afford the electricity for a second "big" miner (my electricity cost is 0.13gbp kwh). My one is running beautifully though, amazingly quiet. Thanks again.

On a different note, ive se the fans to 15% to raise the temp uptp 60c-ish and the fan speed is still reading 1680 for both fans (same as the 20% setting), I assume this is the lowest they will go to?

Title: Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy
Post by: sidehack on July 16, 2016, 04:47:38 PM
I don't know how to interpret that question. All my "work on the S7" is the same as my work on the S7LN, which is all already laid out in the S7 hacking thread in Hardware.

Title: Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy
Post by: IITravel01 on July 16, 2016, 05:06:22 PM
That's what I was asking, if the default hot/cold volt. setting was the same 710/680 for the S7 as it is for the S7-LN.

Thanks,

Title: Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy
Post by: sidehack on July 16, 2016, 05:19:22 PM
The question does not make sense. There is no hot/cold default for either; the hot/cold switchup is something I implemented specifically to have a higher voltage for startup stability at low running voltages. "Default hot/cold" does not exist.

The default voltage for an S7 is higher than the S7LN since it's designed to run at higher frequency. At least all the ones I've played with.

Title: Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy
Post by: IITravel01 on July 16, 2016, 05:45:51 PM
OK, so the default of the S7-LN is 680 then, but not the same on the S7?  I was going by your chart where you state that the 710/680 is the "approx. stock" setting.  I was trying to figure out if the same chart would apply to the S7 as it does with the S7-LN in that the boards/blades are the same except on the LN they've switched larger heatsinks on them but no difference in any software/firmware (outside of the controller board that lies on top with the NIC port attached).

Title: Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy

Sounds like all of this question should be addressed (or likely has already been addressed) in the hardware thrad.

So came home after work today to see that the power meter was only reading 404w at the wall. When I left this morning it was reading 590w (s7-ln and a raspi running two gekkos at 225m on the same plug socket).

One temp reading was 38 and the other 60. Ive rebooted it and will see what happens. Just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience?

do you still sell these?

also, how long would it take for you to send me the unit?

Thanks

ben

2 - navigatrix shipped
2 - IITravel01 shipped
1 - CrazyGuy shipped
1 - fullzero shipped

Round 2:

1 - ZedZedNova testing
1 - zyzzyva testing
1 - achtung082 testing
1 - -EOS- testing

Funny you should mention that, the last day or so I've been considering picking some up secondhand and working them up. I've got some S7 proper coming in courtesy of NotFuzzyWarm I'll be working up, but no source for S7-LN.

Which is a shame because a quiet undervolted S7-LN is actually a really good home miner.

The one you modded for me is quietly mining away in the corner as I type. I had it pointed at several p2pool nodes for a while, but for the last few months it's been pointed to ck's new non-solo pool running his new payout plan. If anyone reading this is curious there is a link in my sig to my miner's stats.

The pool doesn't have a huge amount of hash, but it is growing and it did find a block no too long ago.
