Overview

Ripple’s solution is built around a network that requires no central operator, resulting in instant transaction verification and settlement certainty. It offers a cryptographically secure end-to-end payment flow with transaction immutability and information redundancy. Ripple’s distributed network allows foreign exchange to be externally sourced from a competitive FX marketplace or an internal FX trading desk via Ripple’s FX Market Making solution.

Ripple offers a real-time cross-currency settlement solution that is flexible enough to comply with your bank’s risk, privacy and compliance needs. It is architected to fit within your bank’s existing infrastructure, resulting in minimal integration overhead and business disruption. The Ripple technology can be deployed at your bank using our integrations team or through our channel partners.

I think they like to stay secretive...not bad to sit back and let things grow organically. I see huge potential here with their platform. What are your thoughts?

Ripple has been dead for 2 years. It never left the ground and engineers moved on.

There've been several desperate attempts to forcefully bring it back to life, yours is not the first. These attempts never worked and never will.

corporatized crypto schemes like Ripple just don't cut it

Even how secretive they are, they ought to be the first to announce it. It's their coin and the dev should act like it. Well, not unless you are one of the devs or invested heavily on this coin.

Ripple is universal email service for value sending and settling with a blockchain while ethereum is indestructible indisputable contracts with value with a blockchain, basically.. We may believe they are inevitable but at this time it is crazy speculative. Did you know Coinbase solicited private money investments in spring/summer of 2012 before opening for business? Today its a no-brainer but back then it would have been crazy speculation to invest in them, even if we back then would have seen their success as inevitable. I'm not a programmer but when I realized bitcoin is amazing I bought xbt. When I became convinced by Ripple Labs I bought xrp.

how about NO.

Ripple == Trust.  And Trust is the greatest liability of all.

Not to mention it does nothing for the un-banked.

Many of the unbanked don't have internet or mobile phones (some do of course) so crypto does little for them in general. Crypto is wildly volatile, also not good for the unbanked who can't take on that sort of risk. There's no technical reason in the future why XRP can't do for the unbanked what bitcoin does. Most cryptos do nothing for the unbanked. Actually companies like Factom could be quite helpful for the poor in 3rd world countries by creating an immutable proof of land ownership etc.

Money IS quantified trust.

To write errorless code you need errorless humans, as we're all now acutely aware of since the reaping of the DAO.

From day one Ripple has been run as a company not a community enterprise. We all know just how many are mined and distributed.

XRP is the yang to bitcoins decentralized experiment. This is a centralized experiment and was promoted as such from day one.

"Fifteen of the world's top 50 global banks are members of the Ripple network."

"Ripple has created Ripple Connect, new technology to allow banks to talk to each other replacing SWIFT, and is developing its "interledger protocol", which will go live on October 1 and provide the foundation for banks to directly connect their ledgers with each other without an intermediary."

FRESH NEWS: http://www.forbes.com/sites/sap/2016/09/15/how-companies-are-already-innovating-with-blockchain/#6a60699e1d71

Once Interledger launches, you will be able to send BTC to any other crypto address. All cryptos will be interoperable. For example ...you can pay X amount of BTC to a LTC address...or you can pay X amount of LTC to a BTC address... all blockchains will be linked and able to interact with each other... THE IMPLICATIONS FOR THIS ARE HUGE.

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/google-apple-prefer-ripple-blockchain-tech-over-visa/

"What the tech players lack, Thomas said, is a way to interoperate with one another. This is the capability that Visa brings. But having a protocol to give the technology players interoperability will unleash “complete hell” on Visa, he said.

Interledger’s goal is to create a financial network to interconnect cryptocurrencies by the end of 2016 or early in 2017, he said. Connecting cryptocurrencies is ILP’s providing ground."

XRP has serious news....

5. http://fortune.com/2016/06/23/ripple-blockchain-banks/

The case for XRP:

You can build something like Counterparty or maybe even something like BitShares on top of Ethereum (harder problem), but Ripple is a different beast.

Don't think of Ripple as simply a place to record counter party relationships (debts). Their ledger allows you to make payments that depend on a chain reaction of balance trading through many, many counterparties. That's the rippling.

Such transactions do not work as well on a blockchain. You need a network that can come to a truly finalized concensus very quickly to make rippling work. The more rippling your transaction requires the greater the chance that someone else's transaction is going to be in conflict in terms of which chains of counter party liquidity is available to make make the transaction possible.

User's expect that the process of making a payment is a one time action that requires no follow up or waiting to see if the transaction is going through. It's perfectly fine if the receiver is stuck waiting for confirmation, but for sender it has to be pay and walk away.

A blockchain is able to deliver this sending user experience if the user is directly moving a token from themselves to another party. All the user has to done is include a high enough transaction fee and not double spend.

But if Alice is paying Bob through several intermediate chains of Carols, there's no way for Alice to just send payment and walk away. There's always the risk that one of the intermediate Carols will no longer have the liquidity Alice thought they had.

Short block times combined with Alice waiting for the first block doesn't solve this problem. if Alice is directly sending a token to Bob then only Bob has to worry about Alice having enough hashing power to double spend through an alternative block chain so Bob just waits until enough confirmations take place to make this unfeasable -- Alice can just send a walk away.

With a transaction that depends on a whole bunch of Carols in between it becomes the case that Alice, Bob, and all the other Carols have to worry about one of the other Carols double spending in a manner the invalidates Alice's transaction.

For it to work at all, Alice would have to keep re-connecting and checking that her transaction happened.

Rippling is a lot more smooth on the Ripple protocol. Naturally this does come at a cost, the ripple consensus process doesn't allow anyone to participate as a contributing validator (you can run the daemon and validate the network, but nobody will care about your work), whereas mining a blockchain is open to all without asking. Meaningful validators on Ripple are listed by other validators as being trusted to not collude with other validators. In order to grant this trust, you really have to know something about the identify of a given validator and not just randomly trust other potential Sybils to not collude.

Because of this downside, it's going to take awhile for Ripple's validator network to get built out to be fairly distributed and decentralized. And such a network can never be as transaction sending censorship resistant as a blockchain, so blockchain technology is definitely going to be here to stay for direct exchange of tokens and other cool applications.

The new Stellar design is going to be a little more organic for build-out, but they also acknowledge that it won't have the same censorship resistance properties as proof of work blockchains.

The number of XRP never increases. That means the value of XRP never inflates. When a currency is known and finite, it’s much easier to value than a currency that changes in quantity. You don’t have to worry about more of it being created. Instead, you can decide for yourself how useful it is, how rare it is, and how much you value it." (from the Ripple website -- https://ripple.com/currency/)

XRP NEWS: https://ripple.com/insights/announcing-ripples-global-payments-steering-group/

"A year ago, Ripple arrived at Sibos with a smaller network of banks and the same big dream. I am very proud to return this year with so much to show for our hard work. The inauguration of the GPSG is yet another sign that the banking world is ready to update its infrastructure, and Ripple’s solutions are the best way to achieve that goal.
"

Ripple is actually a mature and well established technology in industry that's been online since 2013. Ripple Labs, the company which created the technology, has already implemented the technology in many major U.S. banks. The Ripple network itself is just sitting there on the internet with no barrier to entry or cost for anyone to connect to and use. The reason the technology is little known publicly and that no one else has created a similar free, open portal to the network is for a number of reasons:

  • Ripple Labs has pivoted to applying their technology just to bank transactions. That is but a sliver of what their technology is capable of, but as a company with many investors and private interests, they had to focus their use case. As a result of their financial industry focus, they had to retreat from being too public with their work. This combined with the stigma of the company having "sold out to banks" is why Ripple is less known today than it was in 2013 when it first started.

  • There is no business case for making something that is essentially free. The World Exchange is a pure, vanilla, client-side tool for the Ripple network and charges nothing to use. There is no extra process in between you and the network and no way for the creators of the website to profit. No VC would ever fund a free-to-use platform with no way to make money. So why did Autodidactic I create it then? Could go to 100k SAT at any time with the gateways open

It could, however i believe that we won't be seeing that kind of movement just yet although the markets do look promising, someone or people have been buying rather large quantity's over the past few days so as a guess anything is possible within the next few weeks to a few months, Buy now profit later :D

I invested into Ripple in early 2014, sold all my XRP's two months ago. I had a shit load. Didn't see any progress. So many other projects are coming up with potential and are more relevant. Ripple has been stagnant. Unless I see a BOA, Wells Fargo or JP Morgan adoption..I'll change my position. That's just my take, please prove me wrong.  :-\

any regrets?

Who can explain the market cap of Ripple being 333,000,000 against a token of .009. Does this have to do with dilution?
ETH is trading at $12 with market cap of 1B (Ripple x 3)
What is keeping Ripple down? Tokens outstanding?

There are 35B tokens in the market, Ripple holds 65B. 35B × $0.009 = ~330M marketcap.

So, how does Ripple correct the dilution?

What dilution? You mean the release of their xrp into the market? They argue they are establishing a market maker incentive program where liquidity providers offering the lowest FX spreads will be rewarded with xrp. More liquidity in the network will drive demand that will offset the increase in supply. They plan to release another 15B by 2021. Go to xrpchat.com for more in depth information.

It's old news, but just for your information:

http://www.coindesk.com/ripple-jed-mccaleb-settle-suit-over-1-million-in-disputed-funds/
 (http://www.coindesk.com/ripple-jed-mccaleb-settle-suit-over-1-million-in-disputed-funds/)

As part of the settlement, McCaleb has sold his equity in Ripple, and has agreed to sale controls on 5.3bn XRP owned by him and his children. An additional 2bn XRP will be donated to an as-yet-undisclosed charitable fund.

The sale controls are tied to daily volume in XRP markets. For the first year, according to Ripple, McCaleb will be unable to sell more than 0.5% of average daily volume "for each day of the week, including weekends and holidays".

During the second and third years of the agreement, this amount grows to 0.75%, while it accounts for 1.0% in the fourth year. Beyond the fourth year, the amount is set to 1.5%.

The current price of of Ripple is 40 cents. Do I have to count out for you how rich the founder of Stellar is?

Data from CoinMarketCap reveals that of XRP – the cryptocurrency of the Ripple network – is trading between $0.23 and $0.24. Much of the trading volume, over $1 billion in the last day, has occurred on exchanges that offer Korean won trading pairs.

Major FinTech payments firm Ripple is expanding to India with a new office in the country’s business capital, Mumbai.

San Francisco-based Ripple has always been about introducing banks to blockchain technology in order to facilitate instant global money transfers. In sticking to those goals, the prominent venture-backed FinTech startup is now opening an office in India, a major developing economy that is undergoing a transformation into a digital society.

Distributed ledger startups Ripple and R3 have become embroiled in a new legal battle, with both startups filing lawsuits related to a contract dispute between the two firms.

Ripple alleged in a complaint filed today in the Supreme Court of California that R3 failed to honor an agreement that included an option to purchase 5 billion XRP, the cryptocurrency of Ripple's distributed ledger network. According to Reuters, R3 asked the Delaware Chancery Court to uphold the deal, which would have allowed it to buy the XRP at a price of $0.0085 per token before September 2019.

Former Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke is bullish on blockchain.
Speaking at Ripple's Swell conference in Toronto today, being held the same week and in the same city as Sibos, the annual gathering hosted by Ripple's rival Swift, Bernanke told a room of several hundred attendees that he believes payments can be slow and expensive as designed using existing tools today.
Bernanke, who led the U.S. central bank during the 2008 financial crisis, outlined the complicated process it would take for a bank in Germany to send a payment to a bank in the U.S., before saying:

At Ripple's inaugural conference, it was all about the use case.
On day one of its much-anticipated Swell event in Toronto yesterday, panels largely centered on the distributed ledger company's existing clients and proofs-of-concept. There, representatives from Banco Santander and Siam Commercial Bank talked about how Ripple – and its XRP cryptocurrency – has provided a beneficial rail for cross-border payments.
Yet, the event was largely pessimistic about the value proposition of other cryptocurrencies (such as bitcoin and ether).

The ripple price plunged as Ripple’s much-anticipated fintech conference came and went without the major announcement that XRP investors were hoping for.
Two months ago, the ripple price spiked after Ripple previewed a major announcement. It quickly became clear that the announcement was conference-related, but investors let their imaginations run wild as the firm slowly revealed details over the ensuing days, and speculators began driving up demand for XRP — the native currency of the Ripple Consensus Ledger (RCL).

It was only about two months ago, on April 2nd, that XRP wasn’t even worth $1 billion. Some think it’s a bubble that’s about to burst. But they might be very wrong.

I added Ripple to the Cheddur app (www.cheddur.com). This will allow new users to learn about Ripple and join the community. Cheddur allows you to link addresses, wallets, exchanges, and other services that support Ripple so that new users can easily get started. Can others from the community please review the profile for quality and help me add supported services?
