Why are you looking for an alternative? What functionality is it that you are interested in?

Yep, line. Or Wiichat. That's pretty much the same. Or if you're using an Apple device, you could use iMessage. It also uses data, and you can do group chats.

Telegram's good. With the added bonus it's on F-Droid.

Telegram... Where does the contact book goes? Russian servers? Firechat is nice too p2p (wifi, Bluetooth) useful in saturated networks however not used enough.

As you asked before guys this is one function lacking in whatsapp  (for all contribution for this magnificent idea, I would be mostly pleased with a btc donation however knowing the looting spirit prevalent in today's world I don't need to check my inbox  ;D)

Doesn't go anywhere on mine, since I sandbox Telegram inside App Ops.

Whatspp is my favourite though if you need alternatives here they are: Hike, Messenger (for Facebook), wechat, Line, Viber, Nimbuzz, Kik

Have fun ;D

It's more the open source aspect that interest me... Specially on a btc forum  ;)
